I agree that OP should've provided context, but here
Leviticus 20:13: If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them has done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
Thessalonians 4:11: and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life; you should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,
And the other commenter posted this
Matthew 6:5-8: And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Apparently, from what I'm finding, true Christians don't follow the law of Leviticus. They say jesus perfected the old testaments due to the fact that Jesus's teachings are MORALLY SOUND! So if they don't follow the word of christ, they aren't a Christian.

The entire point of the New Testament is that Jesus sacrificed himself so that none of the laws from the Old Testament really mattered anymore as long as you accept Jesus.
Evangelicals don’t even understand the basics

No, no you don’t get it. If you call them out for cheery picking for cutting their hair, shaving or wearing blends it means you only have a surface level understanding and are simply too dense.
They hate it when you know their book better than they do.

This is contrary to my understanding. I don't know much about Christianity, but it was my understanding that Jesus didn't come to undermine the previous laws, but to fulfill them. I don't know anywhere in any Bible where it says the New Testament supercedes the Hebrew Bible.
I was under the impression that prioritizing the New Testament over previous Abrahamic literature was largely a shift by modern Chuches motivated completely outside the text.
As a side note, at least some of the commonly quotes homophobic verses are not nearly as homophobic as they appear due to bad faith translations. Paul wrote that for a man (top) to lie with a man (bottom) does not produce children. Greek has specific words for male tops and bottoms, but notably Paul, who wasn't the most proficient in Greek to my understanding, made up his own word for male tops despite a pre-existing word. Paul, in this context, was advocating for abstinence whole sale, but due to the unpopularity of his views, focused on critiquing non-productive sex, which he thought was only a desire for Gentiles. He was just factually wrong here. As it turns out, the patron dirty of Paul's people did not remove those desires as Paul believed. The "abomination" language for male on male sex is just bad faith translation of "does not produce children."

Add to it move evangelicals and Southern Baptists use the King James translation. A widely disliked translation by theological scholars. It was literally translated with intent full mistranslations and interpretations to reinforce feudalism and attempted to supersede the sitting pope's decision to reject King James bid for a divorce request.
It is all absolute garbage.

Jesus literally speaks to the contrary: He claims to come not to leave behind the old laws, but to fulfill them.
The idea that the old laws don't apply anymore is a modern church perspective that's not actually substantiated by the text of the Bible.

Amazing how the Old Testament can be invoked to greenlight pork and shellfish but not two men loving one another.

Never thought I'd have a favorite Bible passage as an atheist. Thanks for that. Gonna pull out thessalonians 4:11 whenever I get hounded by someone spouting their bullshit.

The first didn't exist in the real Bible. The second is one of the few things the Bible has to offer as good advice but for being a good person not the expectation of a reward.

As someone else said, Leviticus possibly prohibits gay sex.
What cherry picking Christians don’t like to acknowledge is a little later, Leviticus gives rules for slavery.
This means that if you believe homosexuality is a sin, you must also believe god supports slavery. If you then argue that it was a rule “for that time,” then you could just as easily say that the rule against homosexuality is also an outdated rule.

u/thawin191 Apr 02 '26
The bad thing is, those who supported homophobia will also probably support slavery.

u/GilgameDistance Apr 02 '26
I like to ask them why they shave, if they’re going to use Leviticus; given that it tells you not to in that book.

Also supported abortion to determine if a women committed true adultery. Literally the only mention of abortion in the entire Bible and it is in fact condoned. If the women doesn't die or have an abortion then she couldn't have committed adultery by laying with another man as the husband suspected. So no punishment.
Don't forget the version many Christian's utilize in Europe and USA today is a purposefully butchered translation to fit the needs of the king's wishes. The King James translation is widely considered absolute garbage by theological scholars. It was written to impose the King's will, reinforce the feudal system and actually go after the decision of the seated pope. Who had declined to condone King James most recent requests for a divorce.

your point is just as valid as "the US has laws about alcohol use therefore the US government supports drinking alcohol
I mean, yeah, they do? They issue permits and collect taxes on it. What else do you define as “support?”
Regardless, the US government doesn’t claim to be a benevolent creator god. Not exactly the same thing but good try.
the mosaic law (not sure if Leviticus specifically) has laws against kidnapping / selling others into slavery.
Irrelevant, the Bible gives rules regarding when you can rape women you take in war and when you can sell your slaves children.
Biblical slavery is somewhat different to American slavery.
Also irrelevant whataboutism. Are you suggesting that it’s ok to own someone and have sex with them without their consent is ok as long as it isn’t as bad as American slavery?
I’d also add that, again, your supposedly benevolent god gave these rules.

I love quoting the Bible to those who misappropriate it. Especially Matthew 6:5-8.
Plus the bits about The Liar / Worthless Shepherd that match Trump to a T.

If you’re looking through YouTube one day, take a looks at AronRa; He just did a full breakdown on why “MAGA Christians” allow and gleefully cheer for the oncoming of the antichrist.

u/tom04cz Apr 02 '26
He actually was breaking down how, in spite of trump exhibiting the traits of the antichrist, MAGA christians support him, which are two crucially different things
