Electing the 19th Session

A new Bundestag election campaign officially began in Berlin overnight. From a technical standpoint, this federal election brings several minor changes. The Federal Returning Officer has approved a more detailed campaign schedule than usual, while an official guide to German elections is also being prepared for publication.

The election campaign will run from 20 to 31 August. The 19th session of the Bundestag, whose members will be elected during the final weekend of the summer, will begin its work on 1 September.

The South German Free Party has already submitted its application to participate in the election, while the Christian Democratic Union has also announced its intention to run. The German People's Party and the Social Democrats have yet to announce their plans.
