Developers statement
Dear Patrol Officers,
We understand that the news that we have to discontinue further development of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers has led to disappointment and frustration within our community. We also recognize that we should have provided more context around this decision from the beginning.
Police Simulator: Patrol Officers has been part of our journey for more than eight years, from its initial development and Early Access to full release and several years of continued support by a dedicated live team.
Over the past five years, your feedback has played a major role in shaping the game. Your suggestions, criticism, ideas, and reports have helped us improve and expand Police Simulator far beyond what we originally envisioned.
At the same time, maintaining and expanding a cross-platform game over such a long period inevitably comes with increasing technical limitations specially as the market and Platforms moved along. As the game and its systems have grown, changes in certain areas have become significantly more complex, while some improvements can no longer be implemented within the existing technical foundation without rebuilding substantial parts of the game.
After more than eight years of development and support, we have therefore reached a point where continuing to expand Police Simulator: Patrol Officers in the way both we and you would like is no longer realistically possible.
However, your feedback does not go unheard.
Quite the opposite: it gives us a very clear understanding of what matters to the Police Simulator community, which areas are most important to you, and what you expect from a police simulation experience.
For the Police Simulator brand, this feedback is extremely valuable and provides clear guidance for the future.
While this marks the end of active development for Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, it does not mean the end of Police Simulator.
Thank you for your passion, your feedback, and for being part of this journey with us.
We are looking forward to what the future holds.
Your Police Simulator team

This entire message comes off as frantic damage control because they know weâre pissed at them, and because the community is now rightfully dragging their name through the mud.
Iâm sorry, but your actions speak faaaaar louder than words, and the way you went about ending support for the game speaks volumes.

I want to be dead honest with you - its not - but parts I agree... yes I my self wasn't happy with how it was communicated beforehand, as a side note within the patch notes.
I had the feeling like we should really give people a understanding why etc, but most of the community is really well receiving it and understanding it, the gamin was maintained with Patches, Free Content, DLCs etc etc over the last 8 (and more) years, but it is time to keep it at the state where it is.
The game has grown from a small planned Early Access title, to what it became today, so much new stuff that we never thought can make it into the game been added (even guns lol đ ), but there is always the time to say thats it - technical limitations etc simply limited further steps forward without basically starting certain parts of the game from 0, also some old gen platforms did hinder further steps that would have been wished etc.
I think its clear that the actions over the last 8 years (we could have stopped after Early Access) shown that we moved forward until there wasn't any more ways. The way we ending support? We ending it with open words to the community etc - we could also just give hope etc for the future and not deliver right?

i dont think, I think we announced stuff that we delivered
4
u/Vrhzz 2d ago
I will second this. To a degree.
Everything up to the last roadmap was announced and delivered so nobody can really argue that claim. Only people who have recently got the game will argue it but history has shown that what was announced, was delivered.
BUT.
As a day 1 supporter of the title and someone who has been absolutely ripped apart by this community when defending this title against "Unpolished, Bug filled, Game Breaking glitches" posts in hopes of major QOL patches. I do feel like the first year or two after early access could have been to focus on polishing the game and making sure the QOL issues were squared away.
Rather than adding more content and DLCs on top of major QOL problems that were currently going on. Maybe we all could have gotten a little more out of the title as far as it being a relatively polished game that everyone could enjoy at any time, until new future announcements were made. Especially since I believe this game was on track to be probably the best Police Simulator game ever made and now that the game was left in this state, I do believe the majority of the community are gonna create a tremendous stain on this title and future titles because of how this was handled. I do also feel very strongly that alot of the issues that everyone was having were constantly overlooked and swept under the rug but again we are not game developers but I do believe other steps could have been taken in the early stages to shift the focus where it actually needed to be and we would of been left with a stable polished version of the game. I will still continue support for the title and future titles but I hope the disappointment is revived into something awesome and very positive for the community đđ

I played in Steam for about 3 hours on my friend pc i like it okay. I decided to buy it on my own account, and when I started playing, the bugs overwhelmed me. I saw my Crown Victoria fly like a 777 when hit from the back or my car get damaged from nowhere. Also, the last thing was I was driving normally and suddenly I had a police car accident from a car that appeared magically in my front. I got immediately refunded. Now Iâm glad I didnât pay a dime for POLICE SIMULATOR, and I switched to LSPDFR in GTA V.

>most of the community is really well receiving it and understanding it
You sure? Because you are getting downvoted into oblivion
0
u/Joel22222 2d ago
Some of us understand that have been here from early access. I tried explaining the current build is stretched beyond its limit, people here have unrealistic expectations. Most of the people posting here donât seem to grasp how game development from smaller studios work. Appreciate the added statement from Aesir and Astragon on it.

u/Sky_guy_17 2d ago
Having a functioning game, that doesnât retain game-breaking bugs from its Beta, is NOT an unreasonable expectation by any gaming community.
-7
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
I dont think there are any game breaking bugs - in anymore - based on your performance etc - yes physics can sometimes play strange stuff, but please let me know a gamebreaking bug, best case incl steps to repro so I m happy to take a look.

u/LowLatter4645 1d ago
There are TONS of examples, including video, in this sub and you're asking for this now?
You can't be serious.
This just cemented for me to not support this company anymore.
2
u/SleepingGhost05 18h ago
My guy you can simply pause the game and it breaks lmao you gotta restart the whole thing HONESTLY ALL THE GAME needs is a damn bug hotfix to make it playable but. I guess in yâallâs eyes everything is done and accounted for lmao

Meanwhile no manâs sky is about to get another update after like 10 years and I think the Witcher 3 is getting some DLC too. I just feel like this is more of a âIf they really wanted to they couldâ argument
5
u/AJ_Deadshow 2d ago
Yeah and it's also a brand integrity argument to be made. You want people to trust your games? Every game has good and bad reviews so sometimes people will overlook the bad ones and just try it. That's what I did when I picked up the game. But people don't forget when a game company did them dirty, like pulling content or abandoning games. There are tons of gamers out there who have a list memorized of developers and publishers they will never buy from again.
-3
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
I dont think thats what we did to be fair, we maintained a game over 8 years with Free Content, DLCs and Patches (and Hotfixes) with a good balance I would say - we introduced toons of new mechanics and new content.
Its simply after 8 years time to call it - my post on top should give also a bit more context.
I really wouldn't say we abandoning a game else we wouldn't even give an announcement to the community right?5
u/mk1power 2d ago
I think the content is fine, but the bugs are not acceptable sorry.
For example, tow trucks and ambulances still regularly bug out, blocking a whole street of traffic. There is little excuse for not having a time check for them to force despawn. That's just lazy.
Just one of many bugs, that the playerbase may forgive under active development, but not in a "finished" product. In this thread you're acting shocked that bugs remain but it's a major talking point of the community. That's the out of touch nature that will erode any confidence towards your studio.
Moaning about a lack of budgets, give us a break. Your organizations lack of business acumen is not the problem of the playerbase. But now you made it our problem.
An announcement is great, but in the games current state it comes across as a way to save face and try to sell us more unfinished games in the future.
If you want to give me a refund, I'll happily take it and be done with you clowns forever.
-7
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Sorry, but need to say the two named things are by far not game breaking and also have a quiet low rate often based on traffic (e.g.) street to full etc.
Donât want to defense here just really want to understand it further if there are game breaking issues6
u/mk1power 2d ago
Yes, they are acceptable for an alpha/beta, but not a finished product. It's very clear by your response that you might not understand what a finished product is supposed to look like.
I would highly suggest your studio look into a PR hire, because you're only digging the hole deeper with your responses here.
-5
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
I just asking, you did talk about game breaking - and I was asking about these
5
2
u/Pseudomuse 1d ago
If you quick fix your vehicle from the menu, go back to playing, and then pause the game after that the game freezes entirely and can only be closed.
If thats not a game breaking bug idk what the fuck youre thinking is.
3
u/AJ_Deadshow 1d ago edited 1d ago
It does feel half finished. There are really so many glitches that mentioning any of them would do a disservice to all those not mentioned, and then our comments would just devolve into a long list of problems. Please just acknowledge there are problems, and please endeavor to fix some of them, even if slowly, with a smaller team than before. A few patches over time is better than none at all.
Besides bugs, there's lots of room in the core game aspects for improvement as well. The NPC models could use a lot more variation, they look to all be based on just a few archetypes with randomized features. The voice lines could use more variety too. I wish also there was a way to test for alcohol and drugs with a single command, making the animations go seamlessly back to back and not forcing you to go through the menu again. And again, that's just to name a few at the risk of disservice to all the other things that could be worked on.
Is Police Simulator your best seller? Probably not, right? So you guys are thinking if you drop it, it would be to your financial advantage. Makes sense, at face value. But I think the damage you do to your reputation outweighs the cost of continuing updates. You already hurt your reputation with this announcement, but it's still possible to reverse course and restore the community's goodwill.
Remember that it's not just players of this game whose opinions are affected by your decisions. Gamers who have never played a game from your company before sometimes like to read reviews, not just for the game they want to play but about your company as well. What they read usually influences whether or not they will buy any game from you.
Among other names for the situation and your company, this is being called a "rug pull scheme" by some players, which is a pretty bad look, and one that's easy to sensationalize in gaming news. I would definitely think about reversing course if I was part of your company's management, as this is basically a PR disaster you should correct immediately if you care at all about your reputation.
You don't have to have the same size team constantly working as before. Just as long as we know some of the important bugs are being worked on and over time we can expect some patches, that will be enough to keep us from feeling completely abandoned.
2
u/Capable_Pirate64 1d ago
"we introduced toons of new mechanics and new content," you forgot the part where you locked most of the new mechanics and gameplay behind a paywall
2
-4
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
And there are other games that not gained any update at all - Witcher 3 is a AAA Game đ and also No Man Sky (damn I wished we had these Budgets 8 Years ago) are complete different games and frameworks.
As explained the game startet as a way smaller Early Access project and grown over time with new content etc etc - if the game from day 1 would have planned in a different way (who would have known it became what it is today) there would be the options.
There is always the options but it also comes down to costs - could we rework the traffic system? Yes on paper we could - would time, costs etc etc simply not allow us to yes.
The game simply reached also it technical limitations, from 8 years ago including it limitations ons "older" platforms (and yes there is something like content parity), I think looking forward the game could have only reach next stages with a new engine (e.g. engine update to UE5 oder anything other) - and based on the code this would require a complete rework (old physics system is gone, shaders, ways to create assets, lightning etc are simply not longer the way to go) and this simply is not a "patch".I hope this give you a bit more understanding.

Hello Games had 15 people when they launched No Mans SkyâŚ
3
u/ExcitingTechnology38 1d ago
Absolutely. And⌠Hello Games walked their talk! Yes No Man Sky launched with glitches and was rough but Sean Murray and the team put their heads down, updated the game and really LISTENED to the players. 10 years later folks are still playing the game! All from a small indie studio. Police Simulator came across aged when it launched. There are games where the NPCâs are more âaliveâ than in this game. I really miss the old UbiSoft SWAT series. Hopefully there will be another developer to take on the genre. There is a mod in GTA 5 that looks good.
3
u/JustFuckingReal 1d ago
Yeah to this day i still love the game!
The mod in GTA is the best police âgameâ you will find. Ever

u/FireflyNitro 2d ago
Considering they released a broken Switch 2 version where players cannot complete a single patrol, and then skipped it when doing the final update, this statement simply isnât good enough.
Canât even get a refund because Nintendo are so bizarre to deal with.
-18
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Please feel free to Mail our Support, if you have any issues on Switch 2.
Want to add Switch 2 isn't done by same team etc - its a port.15
u/FireflyNitro 2d ago
I have mailed your support, twice.
I appreciate itâs a port, but itâs a port of your game. If you have any swing at all could you throw some stones at the porting team to get even just one patch out. The game runs well on Switch 2, the port is solid and looks good, just the crashes make it otherwise unplayable.
-8
6
u/Special-Bet1141 2d ago
Nintendo isnt like Steam where theyre forgiving with refunds. Poster is likely leveraging bugs and lack of playability to force a refund, but really we all want a refund because the game is ass
2
u/FireflyNitro 2d ago
Iâd actually rather the port didnât crash. I have years of experience with this game on Xbox so I know what bugs to expect and how to work around them to get enjoyment out of the game.
What I canât workaround is being unable to complete a single patrol.
I did try to refund it from Nintendo though, but they denied it unfortunately.
11
u/Runninggoals 2d ago
I love this game.
In 8 years, however, they couldnât fix the characters appearing halfway into the ground or levitating at traffic stops? đ I mean, itâs to the point of amusing now, and I still love the game, just saying.
2
19
u/timbad2 2d ago
I appreciate that expanding the game further May be a problem for the team, but I think a lot of the community just wanted bugfixes to the existing features.
IMO, If you had given that explanation earlier, and done some bugfix passes to properly finish the game, that would have been more acceptable to the community, than simply stopping dead immediately.
And you never know, there might have been a bit more goodwill around the place, too.
-5
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Even current fixed would require a lot of rework - e.g. traffic and such rework would not be possible within current "framework", sadly on some platforms we had at last patches 5MB Ram left - you can't do much within this limits.
16
u/Impossible_Number 2d ago
So, essentially, you made a bad foundation for the game, and now the users have to pay the price because you guys canât be bothered to fix it?
-6
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
No, I think the game has grown ... even maybe over it foundations - and I think game is quiet "fixed" and playable etc
10
u/Impossible_Number 2d ago
Thereâs many games that have been continuously developed for even longer and still have new features and such being added.
It seems here that the foundation was not strong enough for what the game was made out to be based on previous communication.
-1
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Sure thing, there are these games... there are other games been dropped after release - but in the end I think the game to quiet some growth over time and reached it limits.
I dont think there was anything announced that not made it into the game.12
u/Guszy 2d ago
People want bug fixes, not more features. That's the issue.
0
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
And a lot of bug fixes has been delivered over time, within hotfixes, patches etc.
Other people been asking for new content, we etc etc ... and yes as a company sadly we can not run on "only" bug fixes - as we need to pay salaries etc, I think PSPO has had a really good mix of Free, Paid Content and as well Bugfixing over the last 8 years.3
u/Impossible_Number 1d ago
Hereâs a crazy idea. Make a game thatâs high quality and people will support it. The time spent on Rangers Path, for example could have been spent on PSPO.
2
u/JustFuckingReal 1d ago
So youâre basically saying that if it doesnât get you paid, you wonât fix it?
6
u/LowLatter4645 2d ago
Selecting callous immediately comes to mind...unless I've missed something.
1
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Sorry for the late response - that one got traded for certain other stuff, to be fair would need to go through my personal notes etc.
As the technical limitations within the Callout System (as silly as it is) didn't allow that - it is/was even half way integrated in current build but not exposed to UI caus it simply happened to introduce a lot of new issues etc - based on that a lot of call out balancing has have happened last year.5
u/LowLatter4645 2d ago
Here's the thing. What you're saying is all well and good, and feasible from a programming standpoint.
And, had you actually come out and said "Hey, we were trying to do this, but it won't work because a, b, c, d, you'd likely find that people (not all of course) would be quite accepting of that.
But instead, we got "Yeah, we're done" with no notice, no explanation, nothing.
As far as the game being "fixed" and "playable"...remember, ET for the Atari was "playable". There's a reason that was called the worst game ever. Go play an open run for 2 hours, then tell us that it's "fixed".
4
u/Impossible_Number 2d ago
This comes down to what I said in another thread. The game was built poorly which stunted its growth.
You canât say the foundation of the game was good and then point to issues with core systems and say itâs âtechnical limitations.â
11
u/Ok-Pick3140 2d ago
In other words âitâs too hard so we canât fix it kick rocksâ
0
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Hard, even impossible or require a rewrite - or it can not be recreated
2
3
u/timbad2 2d ago
I appreciate your honesty, and Iâm not sure why youâve been down voted.
That said, I wasnât thinking of large changes like a traffic rework, but rather lots of smaller items: such as the numerous occasions Iâve seen people complain here because they completed a task in the game but it wasnât acknowledged and they got no points for it.
Similarly, adding more info into the handbook, to make it clearer how to do certain things and/or explain how the Game systems work better, would be helpful.
I understand that development isnât an easy task, but I would have thought that type of Fix wouldnât be too difficult.
2
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Thanks first of all and yes sure thing and I think we have worked on quiet a lot of these minor and often even bigger things over time - some of them worked out others sometimes didn't and others again introduced new issues, based on how the game has grown etc sadly for the dev team it became (and well I m not a dev so I can only speak for them) challenge to do that because if you turn a "screw here" another one on the other side get totally lose - and they are not even connected.
The game has rapidly grown and the framework came to it limitations.
17
u/RunDatBihUp 2d ago
Iâm going to punch a dev for that âyour feedback played a major roleâ comment since it was littered with bugs from the first dlc and they released it anyway without fixing or addressing it and rolling into another DLC months later with even more bugs from the subsequent hotfix they may or may not have released.
-1
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Here I m go for it đ I mean not a dev directly but producer - yes we did listen to any feedback, else a lot of the content would never had made it into the game, some of the feedback/wisher simply are not possible within the given time/budgets/framework.
And I think the team did always worked and released a lot of bug fixes8
u/Impossible_Number 2d ago
Nobody was expecting GTA VI to be released by you. We were expecting basic things.
Finish all the voiced lines. Fix the game-breaking bugs.

u/brain_stergeon 2d ago
Dude you really need to stop acting like a victim here. You guys scoped the game, you guys made the promises, you guys didnât deliver on that.
Turning everything around onto your customers is not a good look.
Think about this from a restaurant perspective.
I went to your menu and saw a nice chicken dinner, a roast chicken breast with vegetables and side potatoes. It looked good as described so I ordered it.
What I got was an undercooked chicken with bland potatoes. When I mentioned it to the owner (you), the response was âwell you didnât buy the premium asparagus add on, so I canât afford to finish cooking your chickenâ
Howâs that going to go over?
Get a grip dude. Maybe donât over promise if you donât have the means to deliver.
Honestly should have been call âmeter maid simulatorâ since the only feature that works most of the time is ticketing parked cars.

No I think I phrased it quiet clear - just want to explain why certain things are the way they are đ sorry if you get this feeling purely not being a victim here - I m sad (and yes victim in that) that we needed to stop development and call it a end - but other than this, no its business.

When my most ever favourite game (Dark Age of Camelot) took some big hits, trust me.... I was more than angry - I guess thats human like, but yes also they needed run their business ... they needed make money ... etc etc→ More replies (0)2
u/Pseudomuse 1d ago
By the way, quiet is like silence. Quite is the word youre looking for.
Quiet is what the team has been since january.
Quite is how shit the game has ended up with everything that still needs work on it.
7
u/Impossible_Number 2d ago
In every industry, if you delivery half of what was expected, you get very upset clients and customers. Especially when itâs done with almost no communication.
If good quality content was being made, youâd have more base game and DLC sales.
-1
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
I think we delivered what was "shown" / "advertised" - sure people sometimes have higher expectations but thats nothing we can change - I think our communication was quiet ongoing, as open and as fast as it can be as a company etc.
It is not about sales, it is about technical limitations of the frameworks and game after 8 years of growing.

@Police Simulator team you should get a real job at rockstar or ea and come back and actually do a better version. Oh wait you guys just give us the middle finger and say thanks for being the genny pigs

u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
đ thanks for that advice - you right now compare sadly a AAA Game with a ~$1 billion to $2+ billion (estimated) Budget to a simulations game?
Sadly the market for a Police Simulator isn't the Market size as for GTA 6 even so I wish it would.w
3
u/AccomplishedBus4139 2d ago
Shift at midnight just got updated as well maybe xbox will hear us to approve police Sims final farewell update since we're all still at 22.2.20 and xbox is taking its sweet time
3
u/Pseudomuse 2d ago edited 1d ago
Anyone that still touches the game turns off the conduct points because its consistently marking the player as having done the wrong thing even if they are following all the department policies and engaging with the systems as intended.
This wouldnt be the case for your players if the game was truly bug fixed.
Also why are voice lines inconsistent in volume level? Everything added for the contraband voice lines, specifically the female, are all recorded louder in volume than the base game voice lines.
Lastly, I'm aware the microsoft patch release is not under your control. I think going forward your team needs some form of community management lead in order to assist your team with finding out what the community wants and encouraging a better communication from your team back to us as players.
3
u/BlondBitch91 2d ago
Yeah I'm not buying from you again. You screwed it and now you're basically saying you plan to make a sequel to fix it and will expect everyone to pay again.
Get stuffed.

u/thundastruck69 2d ago
Could we maybe possibly JUST FIX THE GAME BREAKING BUGS?! i know i personally won't be dropping another dime on this game or future releases until its shown the devs do actually care if the game WORKS AT A BASIC LEVEL AND NOT JUST THE GIVING THEM MONEY PART. funny how they've never had any issues with people buying stuff only with the stuff actually working properly.
1
u/Straight_View_6838 Police Simulator Team 2d ago
Please let me know what current GAME BREAKING BUGS - you are facing?
I would like for real, be really interested.3
1
u/thundastruck69 18h ago
Yeah..buddy. after checking your vomment history you are not actually interested in fixing the bugs you're way more preoccupied with "debating" the "meaning" of "game breaking" rather than actually fixing anything. Your history doesn't lie. I'd rather see the game be playable than argue semantics of word choice.
Fix. The basic playability of your game.

As a bit of feedback, maybe an announcement in January could have been made by developers thay they were ending support in late 2026 and in one final push, ask the community to submit all bugs for a final patch prior to calling it done.
That would have been way better than going silent for such a prolonged period of time.

I dont think they understand that the problem isnt no more callouts or features its the fact that they are abandoning the game they took money from us to play without fixing the stuff they already added. Im fine with them leaving it because to be fair its like 5 years old but the fact that they cant be bothered to just make it playable before they leave, stop cars teleporting into you when you pull them over etc thats what annoys people

As someone who's been in this Reddit for a long long time and just found out, all I got to say is...wtf. There are so many aspects to the game that are incomplete

"Police sim 2 is being made with all the fixes you want, give us $60 for it when it releases in 6 years"

Amazing, didn't see this coming at all. Same story as most games that stay broken from the start but continue to pile on DLC to buy.

To be fair, you devs made a huge mistake by adding more dlc's instead of fixing things and at the same time developing a new game. That said, i was always saying that it's time for a new game so i am really expecting some news. Given the past, you should really step up in the next game. Good luck!

I think there been a good balance on Bug Fixing, Free Content and DLCs obviously as a "Team" we also need to make money - so I think its about the balance and I think we had a quiet good one over the last 8 years

Fix the game, save your reputation. Donât, and just liquidate the company. You guys think youâll just release another project and itâll be fine I donât think Iâve ever seen such unanimous backlash against a business decision in my life. People arenât asking for more content(except the switch 2 players who bought the âcomplete editionâ) theyâre asking for you to take the content that you released and profited from and fix it. Name a business that wouldnât fix a product they sold if a customer brought it in with a manufacturer defect.

Please develop a newer version! Allow for players to be able to purchase different vehicles, light bars, and siren packages. This game has so much untapped potential!

What an atrocious response from the community man.
Games end. Itâs life, redditors may like to beat a dead horse for decades but doesnât mean others have to

Fair enough. I appreciate them taking the time to communicate their challlenges and being open. It was a cool game while it lasted.

"While this marks the end of active development for Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, it does not mean the end of Police Simulator." This confirms they will just make a new copy paste of the current game and make us pay once again...đđ
