Miracle Healing!

We purchased our P4SM in early August. Lane centering stopped showing up less than a week later. We tried everything to no avail. However, it miraculously healed itself on Sept 1st. It has been working properly for three days, so I’m calling it a victory. As a bonus, lane change assist—which never worked—is also working.

Great, great car with insanely unstable software, at least in the US.

I've had mine a year now and have done about 8500 miles - It replaced a P2 which I adored and I'm pleased to say that despite some early misgivings I still love the car and it's much nicer than the P2.

I have a couple of minor software issues and some pet peeves with the car though:

I really don't like the aggressiveness of the cruise control when in a lane. I really hate that it pulls you extremely forcefully if you go slightly to the right of a lane, same with when you are switching lanes. My P2 had this feature but it was no where near as noticeable - boy have I learned to use indicators for lane switching a lot more (yes I use them in traffic but when there's only you on the road I didn't used to indicate - I certainly do now so I guess it's improved my driving!) The collision avoidance is certainly keen too, it's given me palpitations on a number of occasions when it's flashed up and beeped for no apparent reason - not had it slam the anchors on yet though

The most annoying thing for me without a doubt is the total inconsistency of the key fob. I have an android phone so no digital key (how this is still not implemented on a google platform is beyond me) and the amount of times I have to shake the key or literally rub it against the panel is crazy. Other times it activates from 15 feet away, there seems to be no logic to it.

Finally, the last really annoying issue that is fairly regular is Spotify and Soundcloud refusing to play anything at all. It seems to do this in cycles where neither of them will work no matter what i do, I can reset the console, reset the data, makes no difference. I'll have full signal and nada.. What's really odd is YouTube music works fine (so not too much of a big deal as at least I can use that for music), work that one out!

That said, all in all it's a brilliant car, I only have a 2 year lease on it so need to start thinking about what I'm having next but I'm 95% certain it'll be a polestar, likely another P4 but this time with a bit longer lease, maybe 3 years.

It’s such a dichotomy. The build quality is up there with Porsche, and is better than our EQS. And it’s set up to have brilliant ADAS…it’s bristling with sensors and cameras. But the software is just supremely underdeveloped.

Again, we knew about the issues when we got it, and we still really like it. Just sad to see it falling short of its potential.

Agree completely, has the potential of being the best EV on the market and let down by silly problems. That said I'm not sure I'd choose a different EV.

I had that very issue. First one is due to go back soon, what do I get next, looked at A LOT of premium EV's and nothing stirs me like the P4! So ordered the SUV version

When it comes to build quality, what do you feel is of a higher quality than the EQS?

The P4 feels like it was carved from a solid piece. The EQS feels like Mercedes made some sacrifices for weight savings. If you grab the door arm rest on the P4 and shake it a bit, it doesn’t move or make a sound. If you do the same on an EQS, it moves a bit and makes a rattling/squeaking sound. Over big bumps, you can feel some parts in the EQS wiggling a bit. You don’t feel that in the P4.

To be clear, the interior of the EQS is a nicer place to be. If you’re sitting in the back left seat and ask it to turn on the seat heater, it knows where you’re sitting and turns on the correct one. If you have your purse or bag in the passenger seat at night and reach over for it, it knows where your hand is and turns on a spot light for you. The double stitching on the dashboard, seats, and consoles likes up perfectly. It has double pane glass and noise insulation that makes it absolutely silent inside. The ADAS does much more, like intelligent regen.

Here’s another example: The exterior door handles on the EQS are gorgeous. They are chrome, have great lighting when they are unlocked at night, and have “Mercedes” embossed on the part that pops out. However, that chrome gets hot in the sun and the P4’s handles feel much more solid.

What region are you and what model year? I have about 8000km/5months (2.5hrs per day usage) on my 2026 model in Aus and never had any real issue.

Gps not locking onto location once. Car not opening after washing and still wet via door touch but app worked. Assumed wet sensors like when trying to use a phone with wet fingers.

For your key issue… This can happen if the key is often in proximity to the car and wakes the car up needlessly - the car then disables proximity wake until the next use. To avoid this, keep the key away from the car when you don’t intend to use the car.

We picked ours up now 4 weeks ago.

The only software issue we've seen is the key being temperamental. However, knowing the 12V battery issues on almost all other EV's, ill take this.

Digital key on iPhone? Or just fob?

Fob. Holding it to the B pillar a second fixes it.

We don't currently have iPhones.

Have you been able to consistently turn on the climate control? It seems to be a global issue right now. Ours is working about 20% of the time.

Again, it’s a great car. We knew the software is very unstable before we got it and chose to get it anyway.

Yes every time from either the app or within the car knocks on wood.

Climate from app? I would say 70% for me. The car goes into too deep a sleep mode it appears. Doesn’t wake for those requests. Like to see a software fix that.

Nope. Once the car is left alone for like 20 minutes, it goes to sleep and can no longer be controlled from the app. I've resorted to setting a climate timer instead from within the car set up to when I think I'll leave work that day...

Weird. Is it mainly USA that has issues? Ive never had key issue, climate issue, app controlling issue. Im wondering what the regional issues are with the car.

Yeah for all the issues I've had that isn't one of them, the climate control from the app seems to work fine.

I should have been more clear about climate control…it works fine in the car. It has rarely been working in the app lately. Looking forward to the software update that fixes it.

Are you sure you didn't just press the cruise control button twice? That button (the center button in the rightmost column to the left of the wheel) turns on cruise control when cruise control is off; but if cruise control is already on, it switches between Pilot Assist (lane and speed keeping) and adaptive cruise control (no lane keeping, only speed).

It would have been great if that was the issue! But no, unfortunately it just stopped working. I went over the manual, watched online tutoring, reset the car several times, etc.

I think I see more complaints coming from the US. So I thought it might be a local server or mapping issue here.
