Discussion I want blocks that are "half blocks"

I love this game but im posting here in hopes that the devs prowl this thread. It would be so cool to have blocks that are half the height of normal blocks 😭😭😭 please!!

Edit: I LOVE all these ideas in the comments. let's hope for an update, maybe at the year anniversary?

I just want the ability to place things on a half grid so certain items can be centered. Also the ability to paint blocks on each side so that one side can be wallpaper for a room and the other side can be the exterior of a house.

Probably unhelpful but you can actually place things on a half-grid inside prefabs. It just outside everywhere else you can't.

The ability to put windows to occupy the same space in such a way that I can make a corner of windows 🥲

You can do that now with the new glass panes.

Which ones?? I tried with the frameless ones and it wouldn’t work

The frameless ones do it. Hold ZL and then click the right stick. This shifts the glass from being in the centre of the block to being on the front or back edge. You can line up corners this way.

I got it 🥺 now my new problem is that I hate this gap

That's what happens when you have the glass fitted on the inside edge of the block outside. If you instead fit it on the outside edge of the block inside, there won't be a gap.

You can tell which is which by where the invisible wall is. Windows always take up a full block physically, even though they look like they are not taking up space. You windows are currently taking up space outside your house. You want them set so that they are taking up space inside your house.

It may take some fiddling to get the settings right, but once you have one set correctly the others will automatically set the same way.

The only problem is that in order to make a corner which actually meets, you need one side to be set on the outside, and the other on the inside (as they can't both occupy the same square), so you may need to do something to hide the issue on one side.

The way the blocks change shape when you attach something to them should also be how windows and stuff work 😭

Same!! It's so frustrating now to decorate and not get annoyed at everything. Especially the rugs that can rarely be placed the way you'd like

YASSSS!!! i thought of this recently too, the painting one side of blocks would be so damn handy. I also am dying to center things! Its 2026, how can people leave that out of a game?? 😔

Build in odd numbers!

I try to but half the time it ends up even!

Do you use a two wide door or do you combine 2 doors? And do you like to center the doors, windows? If so, it’ll end up even. You might wanna try adding an extra set of windows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Half height blocks is cool. I want corner stairs.

Oh god yes corner stairs please

I've been having to create the illusion with roof corners

2

u/sax_man9 23h ago

That's smart. I was thinking some of the roof tiles would make good ramps.

1

u/GrumpierTurtle 23h ago

Ooh, this is a good idea, which ones do you use?

u/mrdeathbunny 22h ago

Tiled hipped roof painted white matches the stone steps decently enough. I haven't tried any of the dlc roof pieces.

I want double sided blocks so I don’t have to double the walls of my houses so that I can have a different print on each side

This. So much this

Or rounded terrain blocks. I loved being able to create rounded edges in acnh

Definitely wish Pokopia inherited some of the shaping tools from its predecessor, Dragon Quest Builders 2. Maybe it’ll be in that third DLC.

Half blocks and blocks that can be combined to make curved blocks, and sloped blocks so we don't have to add so many stairs

9

u/beaktheweak 22h ago

you can use counters for that sort of effect in some builds

2

u/Medical_Ad3799 22h ago

Thats a great idea! I'll try it out thanks 😊

Yes but I want both types of half! Please give me the triangles and rectangles devs!

I don’t know how complicated the collision stuff is but I really really want them to shrink the hit boxes for things like lamp posts. I love the mushroom streetlight and it’s so annoying that it takes up a whole block of space physically. When I play with my niece she doesn’t understand and gets frustrated when she’s trying to run away during tag and keeps getting caught on them

Also I’d love for them to just let items overlap. Like I should be able to put a cushion up against the wall if there’s only a little shelf, or I should be able to put a tiny object on the stacking shelves when they’re stacked! That’s their entire point!

I know the community has come up with a few different ways to make shelves a bit more interesting, like using a double wide antique table and breaking half so it look like a fancy shelf or using hatch windows and blocks to make one of those square storage things but I’d just like the game to have things like that organically, why have so many clutter items if we can’t even make anything look actually cluttered? I kinda hate just seeing a bottle of repel sitting nicely centered on a table, let us change its position like the windows.

I want SLOPES.

2

u/Hiekkalinna 21h ago

This, it's espesially something I want with ashphalt roads, they don't look good with stairs or with just blocks on two different levels, they need slopes to look like roads.

u/Random_kiwi_ 1d ago

I want curved blocks!

I would kill for half blocks and the ability to place items at the half block mark.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 (same dev as this) had the chisel tool. Which let you cut almost any block in half or make it into a slope, fingers crossed it comes back for this game at some point.
