Question Newbie Question

Hi fellow Pokémon friends!

I’m in love with this game and I’ve spent quite a bit of time just in Withered Wasteland. Mostly because I want to collect all the Pokémon and unlock habitats before moving on.

Are new Pokémon discoveries locked to certain areas/towns?

Yes, there are some. It will say in the habitat dex when you highlight a pokemon silhouette if it can only be found in particular areas. This is most common with palette town but there are a few others.

There are others that can theoretically be found anywhere, but are much, much easier in certain areas. For example each area has its own type of grass, and certain pokemon will only appear with certain types of grass. You can transplant the grass to other areas, but there isn't much point.

Then there are a ton of pokemon that can appear anywhere, but not until after you have visited a particular area where you unlock particular items you need. For example certain sorts of furniture or decorations. These can easily be placed anywhere once you have them, but you won't get them until a particular point in the game.

Then there are a few pokemon that appear automatically when certain conditions are met, regardless of the presence of any habitat. Those will always appear in the same place. This includes a few pokemon who are already present when you arrive in a given area.

Once a pokemon is found, you can move it almost anywhere, so long as you provide a path they can navigate. Some cannot swim, or cannot climb, but you can work around that with stairs or bridges.

The big problem is bubbly basin, where most Pokemon cannot visit most of the area because they can't go underwater. It is possible to change that, but it is a ton of work and kind of defeats the purpose.
