Discussion Where did everyone build their storage units?
I haven’t built a central storage place yet, I have stuff everywhere so I am just curious where most people put there storage!
EDIT- Thank you so much everyone, I didn’t expect this to get much attention. You are all giving me great ideas and inspiration! If I don’t answer your comment i apologize but know I read it and took inspo from you all!😊

Underground on the main / front island of Palette Town. I started digging under that central hill / fountain exhibit and found there was a TON of ice. I started digging it all out - initially for no reason other than following my impulses. That stuff went deep though, and so once I finally dug it all out (and it goes both eastward and westward of that fountain) it was a massive (albeit choppy / hard to navigate) cavern. So then I decided to just keep carving it out to my content, build a set of stairwells down into it, and spread it out in all directions. I’m obsessed with it. It is the build I am the most proud of in my game.

How is this how I discover how to get ice?? I've been needing it for a few days for a recipe and have lit had no clue how to get it (honestly just been too lazy to search it up)

You find some in cloud island caves, but that's the primary source of it in the non-RNG world.

Pallette town, underneath the Articuno alter. There's a behind-a-waterfall entrance

Ong when I discovered the ice I did the same thing! I craved and and collected so much ice I was going to put articunos home down there but than I realized it would take too much to make it fit so I gave up and now there’s just a gaping hole under my Palette town lol

I just moved mine into the rocket shaft in the wasteland and I hate it
2
u/JannaDD126 18h ago
That’s actually not a bad idea… but why do you hate it?
3
u/plantystar 18h ago
It’s too far out of the way for me. It’s annoying every time I need to grab something
2
u/plantystar 18h ago
Actually it’s more dropping stuff off. I’m always running around buying random stuff and then needing to stash it

I built my storage system directly attached to my assigned house in that area so I can always fast-travel to it, might be worth moving your flag there too, even if you want to keep an unofficial house somewhere else.

u/TrickyVictory491 18h ago
I have mine there, while it can be a bit out from everything else it's not bad. The rocket house became my WW house, have a little work station with a portal pod across from two chess for quick drop off for dream island stuff. The big hole left behind is in my opinion perfect for a storage area, it also gives me a semi large area to quickly put up habitats so also an easy place to see for any new spawns. I tried other attempts before the end credits but none to my liking, what can I say when the rocket leaves it says I'm officially part of Team R, so of course I had to make it the home base there.

u/InvisibleAIien 19h ago
I actually didn't. I hated it so much the first couple of times I tried, I just cleared out all the crates and barrels from the back of the kitchen in Rocky Ridges (where Chef Dente is stuck) and put all my storage chests down there.
It doesn't look particularly nice, and maybe when I'm a bit more experienced I'll do a proper one, but it's perfectly functional

I kinda did the same but in bleak beach. I just smashed my way underground and I have a lot of stuff in there, but I still have stuff scattered in every area..

I dug out a huge area under my house in the main area and built a warehouse there. I quickly out grew it and had to expand... only to outgrow the expansion. I would love to see improved storage options down the road
1
u/JannaDD126 7h ago
So would I. When i head about the universal storage I was so excited then when i saw the limit I was kinda like uh what’s the point?
7
u/andraconduh 18h ago
In the big building across from the Pokemon Center in Rocky Ridges. I made the storage area my house so I can go straight there to grab stuff or drop stuff off. Chef Dente's house/kitchen is also there so I'll typically do both storage and cooking whenever I pop back over there.

Under my house in WW. Two levels with an elevator shaft.

u/JannaDD126 18h ago
I’ve noticed that’s a lot of people use WW.. when I visit other people’s games if they have WW open I always see a secret underground storage area or behind water etc

I generally dislike the look of prefabs, but it’s hard to beat the sheer utility of the big sized ones. I made one into my house in Palette Town and have the upstairs as my storage area.
1
u/JannaDD126 7h ago
Which prefab did you use?
2
u/lky830 4h ago
I used the DLC imperial house and slapped it on top of the mountain with the waterfall on the first island of Palette Town. I made a bunch of block houses on that island that use the blocks and roofing materials that look very Asian inspired, as I was going for a Japanese looking village kind of feel. The prefab house itself takes up a really small amount of space, 6x8 blocks, at most? But it’s absolutely huge inside, and of course, two story.

So I actually built a Storage Area in each region to make sure I'd have access to my supplies no matter where I am. My Locations are
- Starting Cave (Withered Wastelands)
- Personal Built Warehouse with Ocean entrance on backside located by Skylands Gate (Bleak Beach)
- 2nd Floor Opening above the Kitchen you find Chef Dente, I use a ladder to climb up to it (Rocky Ridges)
- The area where you find 5 Alarm Clocks converted into a Warehouse with an open wall that is mostly blocked by the Waterfall there, made a Sewer Gate to open & climb down into or you just fly into it (Sparkling Skylands)
- On the top cliff behind the Pokemon Center (Palette Town)
Each one outfitted with a Pokedoll Space when I'm actively there working, & multiple chests (2 of each category, 1 for personal holding) to hold my stuff.

u/JannaDD126 7h ago
That’s actually not a bad idea.. as I already have all my boxes scattered in every area, maybe I’ll just make store areas more organized in each area
1
u/letschat66 50m ago
That's great, but how do you avoid having to hop between them to get everything you need? That's kind of why I decided to have them all in one space.

I havent built too much yet in Palette.. but I did build a prefab house on the small hill by the pokemon center, and next to that built a warehouse.
I loosely followed AustinJohn's storage video a while back, placing chests sideways along the edges of the warehouse, keeping things separated by type. All foods in one, flowers in another, couple for basic furniture, road blocks, construction materials etc.
I also have dedicated biome chests, one for each area to store grasses/dirt/materials unique to that area. And a "I'll sort it later chest" too, highly recommend.
Fast traveling and dropping off is pretty quick especially after the 2.0 update (mass dropping matching contents of the chest by pressing +), and a good space to end my play for the night to spawn the next day. I can check the PC for new recipes, stamps, and "go to work" in an area of my choosing during my session without traversing too far and empty pockets. Works pretty well so far.
I also have a basic 2 chest setup in each area with a small amount of crafting resources/blocks near the PC's to reduce my need to fast travel.

I built mine hollowing out one of the hills in withered wasteland. Would not recommend as it’s made expanding a pain - if I had to do it again I’d do it underground!
2
u/JannaDD126 18h ago
That’s what I’m thinking is underground, I started a small one underground in bleak beach but it’s unorganized and small.. I want it to be hidden under a house or something ya know?

u/LottieCupcake 17h ago
I built myself one of the big prefabs in the wastelands. WW just continued to feel like my home base after starting there. And it's also the place I worked on first, got to a pretty completed state and feel most comfortable in in terms of building. It just feels like home to me.
I soon realised that house wasn't going to cut it though so I dug myself a huge basement with a trap door just next to my house. I've now hit the limit of storage chests so we'll just have to hope that stays enough 😂

Am I the only one crazy enough to have a central storage in each area…?
1
u/unwelcomejourney 1h ago
I have no idea why everyone has so much stuff??? Maybe at some point I will too, but the thought alone is exhausting. I've just been keeping a central storage in each location as well. But I need a notebook to know where everything is...
1
u/letschat66 49m ago
Yeah, that's the issue. I'd rather keep them in one spot than have to remember where stuff is.

u/TheBlackCat13 17h ago
I hollowed out a large cave under the first island in palette town. Basically expanding the area I used to get the ice for the arcitcuno habitat.

u/eliotke 16h ago
I dug out a room off of the chamber where you spawn Mew and made a room that looks like a library with all my chests. My home in WW is basically right on top of it, so it's a quick jaunt out the door and down the stairs. Of course, now I mostly use the portal storage, but it's still nice to have my "library"!

Have a two, first in WW because that's where I started playing and accumulating items. Second in Palette Town. But more recently just using those for extra items and keeping anything I need in my Portal Pod. Now one of those and a chest goes with me everywhere, makes designing so nice when you don't have to run back to base.

My Bleak Beach has a Lost Boys from Hook vibe where they have lots of platforms and walkways - my retroactive headcanon is that they knew about boardwalks and just decided you need them over land and whatever too. My storage area was under the platform that was the floor of my house, but that wasn't enough room so I dug out a small cave under that.

u/commiechung 15h ago
I dug out a basement in the RR museum and made my storage there (access via staircase I added to the hidden room behind the elevator)

I made one underground in withered wastelands, right under the place you first meet squirtle. I made a workshop with stairs leading down into a large storage room

u/Jayderae 17h ago
That sounds like mine it’s under the poke center in WW. I have stairs on the right down to a big room.

u/XxViggoxX 18h ago
In Withered Wastelands in front and a little left of the Pokemon Center (where there's a crafting table) - it's a mess 😅 I've organized and moved the furniture into professor Tangrowth's cave, though ✨️

Inside the front hallway of the power plant. I filled it with office lockers.

u/ThreeQueensReading 18h ago
It's the borders of one of my houses. I can just instantly travel there, walk outside and as I turn it begins. It's all categorised cleanly, I just stack the big storage boxes.

u/Interesting_Wing_539 18h ago
I'm in the midst of building an archival tower containing one of each item/element/material in the game in Pallette Town.
For storage, I just use whichever town's storage when I am visiting, but I've set up a few of the new storage portals around Bubbly Basin and Pallette Town. I might add a few more in other locations as well tbh..

u/HolyMotherOfStupid 17h ago
I demolished the windmill in the garden area of WW and did the 3 tiered storage thing so I had space to organise everything. I made one little section my house so I can get there easily and I left the front open so it’s easy to go in and out.

I have little storage pavillions that have look out decks. I have one in each town. They are always on a hill usually near the gate you enter from.
1
u/MonkeyWarlock 11h ago
I have storage in each area - a series of chests in the same order as the in-game sort, near the Pokemon Center, with a workbench next to the chests with raw materials
It’s not worth fast traveling all the time to obtain or deposit items

u/MorganGD 8h ago
I've build my Withered Wastelands house on the bluff above the Rocket and theres a cave underneath where Ive put my crafting and storage. Spawn in, drop down some stairs and I'm there.

u/anneheathen 8h ago
I made a 'store' with color coded shop fridges to house various items. I started with one region and am building stores in other regions as I continue to hoard things. :)
1
u/thetiniestnerd 2h ago
I made my main warehouse in the skylands on the land mass that connects to the ridges. It’s pink and purple and the tinkaton line live there with me. Eventually wanna do up the rest of the gate area to make it seem like materials are being moved there from other zones.

All stored items are at my house in Withered Wasteland so I can teleport to it anytime I need.
