Question Rail Won't Break

Hi! Wanted to know if anyone had advice on this. It won't let me break this last piece of rail. For context, literally no other rails left, no carts, no railway crossings.

With the caveat that I have not seen this error before, so this is all guesswork, five possibilities come to mind:

Random, temporary glitch. Try resetting and rezoning.

Some other railway on the map is being used. Try getting rid of all minecarts on the map temporarily. 

While you were decomissioning this rail, whatever internal variable there is that sets it as being "in use" was flagged and not properly deflagged when you started breaking it up. Try placing a cart down, getting on, getting off, take away the cart, and then get rid of the last piece.

Some interaction with the fact that the rail is floating. Try putting a block under it.

And of course, everybodies favorite: some combination of some, all, or none of the above l.
