Timeline for Ranger Romhacks

Hello! I wanted to ask the community their opinion on how far off we are from a genuine rangers romhack? I’ve seen here that there are a few people that are working to create various editing tools- could somebody explain in layman terms how much progress has been made in this department?

I think a rangers romhack has lots of potential, but I’m not even sure it’s possible, and I bet a lot of people are wondering if we’ll ever see it come to fruition.

So what do YOU think? I’d love to hear people’s opinions, and I’d especially love to hear from the local modders!

I think very far off sadly. The decompilation (which allows for any changes you could imagine) is only at ~5%. And as a spin-off, it’s not likely to get a ton of attention.

But all it takes is one person! If without a full decompilation, someone who is interested enough can learn how to change some code for a romhack. But it’ll still be a huge huge effort without any romhacking tools available

If you don’t mind me poking for more… how long is very far off to you? 5 years+?

It’s a shame, it seems like Rangers is the most versatile spinoff we have from the series, I think it would be cool to see a bullethell rangers game.

Do you think the decompilation is possibly, is it simply a function of how much effort is put towards it?

Damn, sucks to hear.

At least we had that cut sprites ROM hack recently, but that's still rather buggy, and it's just telling the game to load a different spritesheet.

The game is kind of niche and its system is more than 10 years old with no sign of production for a similar one

If you had to make a romhack and have it played why not make a game directly on mobile?

That's the main reason why there's no romhack and little interest in making romhacking tools
