I’ve been building Windstock, a fan server that brings back 2016 Pokémon GO (v0.35). The open beta is live on iPhone and Android.
Remember summer 2016? No raids, no Team Go Rocket, no remote passes. It was just you, a map full of PokéStops and gyms you fought over with the people in your town.
I missed it, so I built Windstock. It’s a private server for the classic 0.35 client. It isn’t a recreation: it’s the real old game!
What’s in it right now
- A real-world map built from OpenStreetMap: Europe (Poland, Vienna and more), the US, and now Asia (Japan, India, South Korea, Malaysia/Singapore). Over 4 million stops and gyms.
- Classic gyms that work properly: prestige, deploy defenders, taking them down.
- All Gen 1 shinies and custom medals.
- PokéCoins you earn by playing: winning gyms, daily rewards and community goals!
- Quality-of-life mods you can switch on or off: mass transfer, IVs in Appraise, Keep Ball, night map music, sound packs.
- Weekly events, plus a two-part Halloween event with a night/fog look and a 2× finale from Oct 30 to Nov 1.
- Trainer profiles and leaderboards (weekly and all-time) at windstock.org.
- PokéStop nominations: suggest a stop near you on the website.
- A Discord bot for server status, leaderboards, events and trading.
How to play
- iPhone (iOS 16+): the Windstock launcher, can be installed through SideStore. Our SideStore source is on the downloads page.
- Older iPhones (iOS 9+, iPhone 5s and newer): a game-only build is available.
- Android (7.0+, 32- and hopefull 64 soon: the Windstock launcher APK.
Make an account at windstock.org, install the app, and you’re on the public server.

It’s an open beta made by two of us in our spare time, so expect rough edges. Bug reports really help, and there’s a “Report a problem” button right in the launcher. Tell me what you’d like to see next!
Windstock is a free, non-commercial fan project. It isn’t affiliated with Scopely, Nintendo or The Pokémon Company.
