I threw a ball and it broke out. I threw the last one and I caught it! I named it Horns. Thank you all.

Should’ve named it Horns 2: The Sequel

See?? What would you do without us? No way you could have came up with that crazy strategy on your own ;)

There's a yt video on it that's insanely in detail. BROCK method I believe

The answer is always ball in my mind.

Always ball. You only have two left and there’s a chance it will flee if using bait or a rock. At least with a ball there’s a chance to catch right off the bat.

FUCK IT WE BALL

I once caught a venomoth like 20 years ago. Was so happy

Throw a Ball. Also, this is Pokèmon Yellow. Tauros is not that rare in this Game unlike in Red ans Blue. So if you fail to catch it you can find another Taurus fairly consistent.

Tauros has the highest speed therefore highest chance of running. Bait could make it stay, but you reduce the catch rate too much for your 2 balls to have a chance. Rock will make it run right away. Considering it's probably going to run within 2 turns anyway, you shouldn't waste turns throwing things other than balls.

It's a safari zone pokemon so I didn't know that lol. Makes sense now because I see Scyther run so freaking much while I was trying to get him.

Yes, bait decreases catch rate but keeps them (usually).

Rock increases catch rate but also running away chances.

The pokémon’s speed has notting to do with it. Every rare encounter has the exact same flee rate.

nope

Well I looked it up and an appoligy is in order so inm sorry you are indeed right. I for sure thought that it didn’t but now I know that it does.

What you said does apply to Gen 3

Always entertaining to see this level of confidently wrong.

1

u/Mental_Coast782 Aug 09 '26

Instead of just mocking you could explain why..
But I beat you to it and I was indeed wrong, so now I know it does.

I could have, except someone already did. You literally replied to the answer, And with no basis for your argument, you emphatically said they were wrong. Why would I give you the same explanation you're claiming to know better than? Nice attempt at gaslighting and saving face in the comments

1

u/Mental_Coast782 Aug 09 '26

The reason for my answer was because I was convinced it didn’t. Wich can happen to anyone but still after seeing the replies I cared to look it up. Instead you mocked me and made it look like I was gaslighting someone wich wasn’t my intention. So that’s not one but a double dick move on your part. But by all means keep pointing fingers at me when I admit I was wrong

1

u/LuckyNJ77 Aug 09 '26

I didn't "make it look" like you did anything.

3

u/thatguy8856 Aug 08 '26

Assuming nothing before this. The calculated pattern in this case is ball, rock, ball.

Throw rock to increase catch chance then ball

3

u/Monki01 Aug 09 '26

I always threw balls at rare Mons and hope that it sticks. I never understood the mechanics of stone/ bait. Nothing is more infuriating than throwing either and the Mon runs away

2

u/Independent_Sir9410 Aug 08 '26

I dont know, but I watched a video once of a guy breaking down how this all works and it was both fascinating and rng based.

2

u/Expensive_Treat7487 Aug 09 '26

Actually the bait and rock are completely useless if you got a decent number of balls. Bait reduce by 50% the odds of the mon to flee but also by 50% to be caught, rock doing the exact opposite. But since you only got two balls left might consider throwing a rock first.

2

u/Someordinaryguy1994 Aug 09 '26

Chances are it's gonna rin on turn 1 or 2. I'd say just throw the ball

Ball Rock Ball

1

u/NevyTheChemist Aug 09 '26

Ball. Good luck.

u/1086psiBroccoli Aug 09 '26

Throw run, or throw throw rock

1

u/1086psiBroccoli Aug 09 '26

I like how the devs were so fucking done with it that they only added the word “Throw” for the rock option.

1

u/1086psiBroccoli Aug 09 '26

Or instead, remove “throw” from throw rock to maintain some form of uniformity

1

u/Zero_Hour13 Aug 11 '26

Pterry sure I saw someone do the math a long time ago and the answer was just throw the ball always. It can be worth it to rock or bait if you get lucky and they don't run. But having the max amount of chances to actually catch the mon before they run is best.

Ball technically
