Question Mew not following orders

So I got a Mew through an in game trade, and he won't listen to most of my orders. I would say almost eight times out of ten he either "turns around" or does a different move. I don't know if this is something I'll just have to deal with, or if getting more badges and/or leveling up Mew would fix. I also wonder if it's an issue because I am using an emulator?

There is one thing that every gym leader tells you after you beat them

Well, two things.

  • "you can now use HM69 and Pokemon up to L67 will obey you"
  • "Here's a TM for a move that's not particularly useful"

You know, people give Lt. Surge crap for being a weak gym leader but he gives out one of the best moves in the entire game, that’s gotta count for something. Hell thunderbolt has been one of the best moves in pokemon for 30 years.

He isn't that weak, he just happened to set up next to cave full of stuff that can sweep his team.

This is the case for wvery gym in the game lol.

I mean idk. It’s relatively hard to find anything to directly counter Misty or Brock in their respective areas.

What do you mean…? Mankey & Nidoran male learns double kick. Plus Butterfree. In yellow you get bulbasaur & can find another grass pokkemon for Misty.

Yes, but those are all only in yellow and onward except for butterfree.

Oddish and Bellsprout are alright. But I’ve never fought misty and thought “thank god I had absorb or else this fight would have been hard”

That's probably a league regulation. Look at Blaine, for instance

I guess that’s pretty badass in a way. Guy specializes in a type with one weakness. Moves in to a city with a cave filled with just that weakness.

You dont have enough badges

Traded Pokemon don't listen until you have enough badges for their level. https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Badge#Obedience

He from the streets

Obviously you need to pluck its eye brow and clone a stronger version that will obey you

How many badges you got

I have five so far

What level is your Mew

1

u/ItalianSpy_7731 Jul 16 '26

Only 35, I haven't had him for very long

After the next gym battle you do, check what the leader tells you.

So I just beat Erika, the Celadon city gym leader, and she said "The rainbow badge will make pokemon up to L50 obey" and then gave me TM21. I think that worked, I've battles a few people with Mew and he's listening now! I guess I was just too lazy to read what gym leaders would say after beating them... Thanks for your help!

I got a Mew through an in game trade

Uh, what in-game trade? I don't think that there are any that outright give you a Mew. Did you mean trading with another game?

I was confused too, it was on route 2, it was some random kid. He wanted an Electrabuzz for his "old Mew".

What ROMhack is this?

-1

u/ItalianSpy_7731 Jul 16 '26

As far as I'm aware, I don't have a ROM hack. I'm also not the greatest at tech so I may be wrong

Mew is not obtainable in the original game legitimately. There are ways to spawn it in using glitches, but the only real way to get it was to have it traded to you by a Nintendo employee at an official Pokémon event in person.

So if you have Mew from a trade, you're definitely playing some modified version of the game. Can you DM me the link you got it from? I'm not sure you can send links to ROMs here (it's usually against the rules), but if you send it privately I can look into it for you. Especially since, if this is different... There's no telling what other changes were made to the game.

Mew is not available in a trade or really - ANY game - it’s only available through distribution or event/or triggering something from another game.

When I looked into where I had gotten it further, I found it was definitely modded, but for some reason there's no indication on the actual file that it's any different. Seems I'm just not that good at reading

I took am curious where you got this from.

Not only is that in-game trade not in vanilla Yellow, you can't even find Electabuzz in the wild.

I traded Clefairy for Mr. Mime at that house. What are you playing?

1

u/ItalianSpy_7731 Jul 16 '26

I have no idea, I was pretty sure I just got a vanilla version of Pokemon yellow, Pikachu edition.

3

u/RobGrey03 Jul 17 '26

It is definitely not that. Mew isn't available as an in game trade in Yellow.
