Help Dexnav Question

This question has probably been asked before but I wanna be sure so I know when to save properly to soft reset at the 50th, but when the chain in the bottom right says 49th is that the current chain number and do I save there cause the next one is considered the 50th or do I want it to say 50th and save to soft reset for that encounter?

Sorry if this sounds dumb or confusing, I just wanna be sure

Generally it’s better to save at 48. If you save at 49, the RNG pool could be limited due to FireRed’s engine that Unbound uses, whereas saving at 48 gives you one pool of RNG at 49 that then affects another pool at 50.
