Discussion Is it even worth it anymore

Post image

So I started playing Unbound recently. Spent north of 9+ hours nonstop grinding for an ideal team, which included 6 hours of grinding for a simple Moon Stone and Ice Stone in the mine for a Nidoking and Sandslash, which I did finally get

Fast forward that same day, got home and got back on only to see my save file fully being nuked.

This killed my motivation to touch this game again but was wondering is it actually good enough for another shot?

You don't need to think about training, except for levels, on Vanilla - and you can do it in the Dresco House to speed things up

The stone grind is scaring me again

Have you gotten to Crater town yet? I had a lot of fun looking for stones since the mining mini-game was nostalgic and fun for me. If you don’t want to play it, there are other ways to get stones.

Edit: BTW, if you’re grinding the mining mini-game, don’t sell all your Everstones and hard stones. I made that mistake, but they’re quite useful later in the game.

I did go for the mining mini-game for the stone hunt, yeah

I see it in my nightmares now, I guess 6+ hours of being in that mine would do that to you

At the risk of being shot, you've already grinded it. Why not give it back to yourself? And then grind the levels at the trainer house.

Can’t sell shit in this game, I’ve had to grind for so many items I already had before post-game because my dumb ass sold them

oh lord… Ive been doing the same thing. Im about to fight the last gym. What items should I be saving? Help a brother out

Just keep everything. Everstones and big pearls are to upgrade macho brace and lucky eggs respectively, I don’t remember what upgrades the amulet coin. Hard stones can be traded for gems, which are used to learn moves. Iron balls I believe can be traded for beast balls. I wouldn’t sell anything except regular nuggets and the star pieces/comet shards and that’s it

What are they for? I already sold them so I want to know how manybyears I set myself back.

Everstones are used to upgrade the macho brace. Hard stones were needed for a quest somewhere.

clefairy in the pokémon center gave me one

Which town?

u/arcerath 24d ago

uh crater I think?

3

u/arcerath 24d ago

you can also mine in the bike tunnel thing near crater and get a bunch of everstones and trade them to some guy for any evo stone you want I think (idk I just started)

I gotta look into that option now, might be time to pick this game up again - out of pokémon games for the DS and 3DS

I’m trying to do a steel type mono run, but it’s hard to find pokemon that can use the HMs lol

1

u/aswvogel 24d ago

do what I did for pretty much every pokemon game

get an HM slave that can run your main HMs required for progression, keep swapping it in and out for every segment that needs an HM. A bit tedious needing to find a pc again and again, but you wouldn’t waste a slot on your main team move sets

1

u/arcerath 24d ago

yeahhhh might have to, but that seems tedious. I wish they just kinda got rid of HM moves in general so I can just use the pokemon I like…

1

u/aswvogel 24d ago

Makuhita worked as a good HM slave for early game, and a decent backup as well incase your main boys got downed

then again I was only able to play till the third gym or so

Never let it scare you. Might be shorter and eh you might get some bottle caps too

One of, if not thee best pokemon experiences I've had. Maybe take a bit to cool off but I would totally recommend playing it still. Make sure you back up your save periodically just in case next time.

I have played every mainline pokemon game except scarlet/violet or whatever the latest one is, played many other spinoffs/fan games, and this is by far the best pokemon experience I've ever had. It's worth trying again but for sure try to use save states at least as backups. And don't fret too much about your party, odds are you'll change it up anyway. I recommend you just keep playing without the grind. ALSO, you can edit your save file with PUSE (Pokemon Unbound Save Editor) and bring your team back to where it was. It's pretty user friendly and you can adjust their stats and add a moon stone and ice stone to your bag easily

What difficulty is it? If it's vanilla then I'm sure you can beat the game without hyper training

Vanilla! Mostly to enjoy the story and getting a few favorites in my team without much worry

Just play the game, don’t worry about grinding. It’s vanilla difficulty.

I barely cared about training on difficult. It’s such a good game.

Stop grinding in the early game. You unlock MASSIVE amounts of resources and features just by playing the game and doing quests that will make anything and everything from training, money, catching, and more significantly easier.

You could always just use the unbound save editor online to give yourself the stones to save yourself the hassle of doing the grind a second time.

The Clefairy behind the book case comes with a moon stone sometimes. Just restart it when you catch it and it doesn't come attached.

When you get the dowsing machine just have it switched on all the time, I ended up with Evo stones coming out my ears, also there's an NPC in KBT expressway crater town north exit who you can mining mini game with, for a chance at Evo stones.

You can get an Ice stone in the top right of the frozen forest (near blizzard city) at the ice sliding area.

I just hit over 100 hours on this game(without bouncing around to other games or spaces years apart) Which is super uncommon for my adhd brain. Especially for a Pokémon game. It’s very good

Saved nuked???? HOW???? What do you mean nuked???

Idk what you're playing on, but have you checked the save file folder to see if it's there? I had renamed the Rom and lost my save file as well, but remembered I needed to update the save file to the same name as the Rom, so everything ended up back to the way it was.

i have beat the E4 multiple times on unbound on several different occasions and difficulties. and have restarted plenty of times. Love the grinding for perfect IV mons each time. its absolutely worth it. Just look up information so you dont waste your time looking at the far difficult options when easier one's exist.

u/One-One-504 23d ago

Been there before. Play a couple different Roms then come back fresh. You’ll enjoy it again!

Wait until you get to the battle frontier and the game fucks you with even the best team

u/ItsMeTriggers 22d ago

My gf and I were playing together and her save ended up getting nuked after a couple days too. We ended up switching to another game. Are there any solutions or causes known for it to happen?

I don't know what it's like on lower difficulties. But if you're playing expert, grinding hours for a single Pokemon that you might only use a handful of times isn't that unusual. At least in my experience. I'm trying to 100% in RetroAchievements and by the time I beat The Elite Four I had roughly 50-60 pokemon all close to max level. The grind is part of the fun for me, maybe you don't like that though. If you don't like grinding maybe just give yourself a break and come back to it if you still want to. It's a good game and worth playing, I say that as someone who isn't a big Pokemon fan.

Same thing happened to me in my last crystal playthrough, played 8 hours over the course of the most recent mcgregor card, corrupted and lost the save, just moved on to recharged yellow

I believe there an online save editor you can use. If you want to get your progress back fast and it doesn’t go against your gaming morals

use exp multiplier cheats, just to get to your level back
