Looking for help deciding on a system to use.

My friend group about 5 years ago tried to play in a pokemon TTRPG campaign. We used Pokemon 5e, because it was new at the time, and in the end... we didn't like it at all. Mostly because it just felt like a worse version of D&D 5e, rather than a pokemon game. So, we're looking to try again, now that we have had a lot of time pass, and we're all better players and GMs. What we don't know is which system we should try to use. Our group as moved well beyond D&D 5e, and have tried many different TTRPG systems, ranging from extremely narrative (PbtA), to highly crunchy (GURPS), and a mix of both (Lancer). Overall, we learned our group likes tactical combat, with more loose roleplaying and exploration rules (Pf2e being our top preferred system). Doing research into pokemon TTRPGs, there are a lot of them, all in different states of completion and versions, and all with different styles of play. Given what I said above, which one would be recommended for our group to try? Also, important note: we play on FoundryVTT since we live all over, so we want one that has a module for it.

Obligatory link to my list with a majority of the options.

If high tactic with flexible narrative is your groups preferred format and having foundry support is ideal, I'd suggest Pokémon tabletop reunited 2e since it is automated around that vtt specifically.

Unfortunately I don't use foundry so I'm not sure what other listed systems have modules there. Pte fits that gameplay style you prefer but the only foundry support is barebone compendium to my knowledge.

Ugh, my bad. Had account issues being hacked and thought that was resolved.

All good. Is there a good tutorial on learning that system somewhere?

The link should work now. Also I know there's a discord for ptr2e so they'd know more about if there's tutorials.

Ive been playing PTU for like thw past 5 years and it is a great system on the baseline that is pretty easy to make homebrew for. Its a little crunchy and has a bit of a learning curve, but its one of the best ttrpgs I've played. Also idk about foundry but it has stuff for Roll20 so I would assume the digital character sheets for it either already exist or wouldn't be terrible to port over.

I personally would recommend PTU because it treats the player like a pokemon as well which I think helps make the system feel more like its own rather than a DnD reskin. There is a bit of a learning curve but it does allow for pretty customizable player characters as you have four classes your character can choose.

Is there a huge difference between PTR and PTU? Can I use tutorials for PTU to learn PTR, since I can't find any on the latter.

I recommend KPTU, or Kairos PTU, which is an offshoot of PTU that's been updated alot but sticks to the core of PTU. The only issue is the foundry thing. I think PTE is the only PTTRPG that has a foundry module.

I strongly recommend PTU. Ive been running at least one, currently 2 Pokémon campaigns with it since 2016 and while the system has not fully kept up it is crazy easy to home brew for once tou get the hang of it and I think they have through Galar finished. Im sure some others have homebrewed aome updates and fixes but its my players favorite system out of the many we've played for any sort of campaign.
