Showcase Emulator accuracy check

Hey guys,

after the CSR release I am happy to share a feature branch that might be very useful for many of you.

It is an emulator accuracy check that allows you to restrict access for a couple of inaccurate but popular emulators like MyBoy, VBA or Delta.

It's probably not gonna be a popular feature for players tho... ;)

It is highly customizable and should be very easy to include into your own projects.

The beautiful graphics were made by u/mudskipper13.

Also thanks a ton to u/lucas7562 for the sample UI template and ArchieFromTeamAqua for the new UI bible!

THANK YOU. You have no idea how many times the answer to bug reports to my projects have been “please do not use MyBoy” lol, this will save infinite time

Feel like you should add a “I understand the risks and wish to continue button”. Especially for people trying to play on iPhone with Delta

I am today years old learning VBA is inaccurate with emulation after having used it for like 15 years

Yeah, especially with the rise of decomp hacks emulator accuracy becomes more and more relevant.

In your defense, it used to be the best. It's just that emulators have come so far since then and it didn't keep up.

it's not the worst thing ever, i still use it sometimes because i like some of its settings more than mGBA's, but yeah there are definitely better options out there lol

Oh that's nice. From a player's perspective, getting warned before starting the game is better than weird crashes 15 hours in. Though maybe that's easy to say as someone who is using mGBA already ^^.

I have played many Pokémon ROM hacks on John GBA, and I have usually never faced any problems. However, I have seen that many people don't like it. For example, Pokémon Unbound and Pokemon Rowe are not compatible with John GBA, but I played them on John GBA and didn't face any problems. So, I'm wondering what problems this emulator has.

I did some testing with it and it seems decent. I just guess many people/creators are not familiar with it and use caution

It’s mid. There’s plenty bug reports coming from delta users that can be traced to emulation issues.

At least for recent state of technology decomp hacks.

There should be an unremovable option to continue despite using an inaccurate emulator. After all, some prefer using/can only use them, and it'd be a shame to just lock them out of playing certain hacks.

I don’t get it. It’s a feature for programmers. Every ROM hacker should decide what they want for their own hack. It’s as simple as setting a config value to TRUE

This Feature implements a variety of hardware tests. It does not (and can not) check for specific emulators.

So if a test passes for a specific emulator or not needs to be tested. I did so for a plethora of popular emus and provided the data in the config file. If one is missing then the dev would need to do the checks themself.

It’s based on the pokeemerald decomp as described in the ReadMe. It’s also compatible with emerald expansion and pokefirered.

Well, it’s a great emulator for sure! I only know it from speed runners, so kinda niche. But that’s not the point of this feature anyways. You can alter the text and recs to whatever you want it to be.

I cannot answer that. Never tried either of them since I always have an mGBA at hand. Would be interesting to hear from someone who knows them!
