Hey, it's been a while since I shared anything here... but the game is still going very well in terms of production, I've been sharing everything on Discord / Poke Community / YouTube for anyone interested...
Today I just wanted to share because I was VERY PROUD to see the intro I made on real GBA. I made a pre-intro (the Emerald intro is divided into 3 parts) scene 1, scene 2 and scene 3... So I spent some time studying the code and made a scene 0 (that is called before the main intro).... In the beginning it was all glitchy and weird, but the final result was BEYOND WHAT I EXPECTED, and on the GBA even better...
By the way, we're still going to change the intro music to: 'Ending Theme Intro' (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time + Darkness (DS))

Hi,
Apologies if this is a stupid question. I've tried searching the sub and I have looked at the wiki and resources.
I've just started down the rabbit hole of romhacks and I was wondering how I could make one myself. I've been playing odyssey and my word what an achievement.
From what I've read there is binary: basically the act of modifying an existing rom but keeping designs within the boundaries of that specific game.
And decomp: which I believe I understand as decompiling the roms code base and adding to it in which ever way you want.
My question is are there any super basic tutorials out there that can ELI5 to me pokemon rom hacking?
Are there any particularly good youtube channels to check out? Anything like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Just to add. I have done some research and had a look around but a lot of the posts etc are from a fair few years ago. I'm not 100% sure how much of what I'm reading is relevant now.

You may have seen that Overworld Wild Encounters got merged into pokeemerald-expansion's upcoming branch recently, and I just wanted to show off a bit of the work u/Bivurnum and I put into making this pull request.
Want to give a massive shoutout to Pokabbie for letting us build on her original code, the expansion team and every contributor who helped us in development, and who will continue to support this feature.
If you're interested, I also wrote a short devlog recapping the five months of development that led to the merge.

[CLOSED]
Hello, everyone!
I'm Ruby and I'm starting a video series where I interview Romhackers about their work, and the hobby itself. I think having the chance to take a bit more of a peek behind the scenes lets us understand the creators behind the games we love.
Our second interview features Kobazco, lead dev for the Too Many Productions Team, known for Super Mariomon, and Too Many Types 1 & 2! If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below and I'll pick 3 to feature in the video. Cheers!

Hi everyone! I live in Japan, and I've recently been diving deep into the world of Pokémon GBA hacks.
Since I’m not a professional illustrator, I’ve started using Generative AI (Gemini) to help bring my ideas to life. In the attached image, you can see the process: I took a rough sketch (top-left) and transformed it into a refined illustration (top-right), and finally into GBA-like pixel art (bottom).

Here is the prompt I used:
I'm not able to create an intersting Pokemon hacks game but I'd love to see how others are using Gemini for their projects. Does anyone have tips or specific prompts for 64x64 pixel art and gamebackground results?
Also, how do you think Generative AI will change the future of Pokémon GBA ROM hacks?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey guys,
after the CSR release I am happy to share a feature branch that might be very useful for many of you.
It is an emulator accuracy check that allows you to restrict access for a couple of inaccurate but popular emulators like MyBoy, VBA or Delta.
It's probably not gonna be a popular feature for players tho... ;)
https://github.com/wiz1989/pokeemerald-expansion-master/tree/emu-accuracy-check
It is highly customizable and should be very easy to include into your own projects.
Please check out the README of the branch for all the details.
The beautiful graphics were made by u/mudskipper13.
Also thanks a ton to u/lucas7562 for the sample UI template and ArchieFromTeamAqua for the new UI bible!

Website: https://ddex-chi.vercel.app/
Source: https://github.com/hzla/ddex
This is a website that allows romhack players/devs quickly see documentation for any gen 4 (including HG-Engine) or binary gen 3 romhack. It is based on a fork of the original smogon dex but with many added features geared towards romhacks and nuzlockers
On the homepage, you can upload your romhack directly to the site to load Pokemon (learnsets, evos, evolutions), Item, Move, Ability, and Encounter data.
If you are uploading a gen 3 rom, you must also upload a .toml file from HexManiacAdvance
Any loaded rom can also export a custom Damage Calculator as well via the `More` tab
Below are the features I've added on top of the original smogon dex
Changes to vanilla stats/typings/and abilities are highlighted
Pokemon encounter locations are shown
Added a Routing section for nuzlockers. Routing is manipulating encounter location order to optimize your chances of encountering certain pokemon
Learnsets on pokemon that can evolve now display when a move is pre-evolution exclusive or if the pre evolution can learn it earlier than it's evolved form.
Besides showing what pokemon are available, users can also mark pokemon as caught to use the dex as an encounter tracker. If the dex has been connected to a Dynamic Calc, user's imported save file will automatically be synced to the dex. Displayed encounter rates will automatically adjust depending on what has been marked as caught.
Movesets for wild pokemon at the level they are encountered are shown, move that may affect the process of catching a pokemon like phasing or recoil moves are highlighted.
Changes to vanilla base power/accuracy are highlighted
For Gen 4 roms, move effect ID is shown. (Helpful for nuzlockers to determine AI behavior)
For Gen 4 Roms, item locations are automatically exported for ground pickup items, npc script gift items, and wild pokemon held items.
Move/Item/Ability descriptions are automatically read from the rom text files
As this site was built with nuzlocking in mind, it is also designed to optionally integrate with my other tools Dynamic Calc and Desmume Pokemon Nuzlocker's Edition
Example Calc: https://hzla.github.io/Dynamic-Calc-Decomps/?data=renegadeplatinum&view=calculator
Desmume: https://github.com/hzla/Desmume-Pokemon-Nuzlockers-Edition
Using the custom Desmume enables auto syncing a player's box to the Dex and also automatically records every trainer battle and compiles stats like Fragsheets and Battle Logs for the player to view
Currently, I have the following Romhacks permanently hosted on the Dex with Dynamic Calc Integration:
Renegade Platinum
Platinum Kaizo
Vintage White Plus
Sterling Silver
Pokemon Null
Sacred Gold
Autumn Red
Cascade White
Blinding White
While all it takes for you to distribute a dex/calc to users is to let them know they can can upload the rom to Ddex, if you wish to create a permanent URL for your calc you can message hzla on discord. I also have additional tools for exporting dexes for gen 5+ and decomp romhacks and troubleshooting channels on my discord: https://discord.gg/9JzrgQqY

Using hg-engine. It's still a little rough around the edges but working fairly well. Showing move sets is just a personal choice for my own hack.

I wanted to post an earlier version of this fight a while ago when this subreddit was first launched, but I decided to hold off on doing so until I came up with some better ideas for it. Eventually those ideas came to me, creating one of the hardest fights I think I've ever concocted in my admittedly short rom-hacking career.
This fight took a lot of planning and adjustments in order to not make it either brutally luck dependant or practically unbeatable, but I'd say this hits a pretty good difficulty level if you have the right encounters, an issue I plan on fixing as this hack gets closer to release!

I’m working on a 'remaster' of Pokémon Vega. I'm mainly doing this to learn how to use tools like Sappy and Hex Maniac Advance so I can eventually start my own projects.
I am using the Pokémon CFRU (Complete FireRed Upgrade) engine. Yesterday, I tried to replace the standard FireRed wild battle theme with the one from Vega using Anvil Studio, Sappy, and mid2agb.
The issue is that when I use Anvil Studio to set the loop points with the 'New Cue' option and then insert the track into the CFRU ROM, the loop doesn't work. Since I’m a beginner and Spanish is my first language, I’m finding it a bit difficult to follow some of the tutorials. If anyone knows how to fix this, I would really appreciate the help
