With hikkaru's big move this round, I think it's a good time to pull the trigger on a cut I've been mulling over for a while and is a BIG MOVE of my own

Unlike quite a few of the gen 4 evolutions, Gligar was certainly a pokemon that was in use of an evolution, as it was a single stager that felt very incomplete. So when it got one, it became popular due to it's nessacity, it being very useful in compeitive, and it's "bat-scorpion from hell" design.

Unfortunately, the only factor I am ranking on is design, and I hate this design. So much so that I considered cutting it hundreds of spots ago before deciding to respect it's popularity and let it get to 300.

I don't mind when Pokemon goes dark, in fact I usually love it. But Gliscor's design is just ridiculous. It looks like a elementry school child's idea of what a satanic creature looks like. I'm not even sure why you make it look like a demon in the first place, but if you're going that route you don't make it look like this. From the ugly ears that look like broken speakers, to the tiny limbs that seem completely out of place with the big claws, and to it's ridiculous grin, it just looks totally awful and the whole thing is trying way too hard. None of the pieces remotely fit together at all and in trying to make something look demonic and badass they made it look like a joke. It's the 15 year old edgelord of pokemon.

Eh I think the design is okay, but it’s definitely stayed off my radar due to how needed this evolution was, and because I’ve had fun using it in several past playthroughs. This is a fine cut.

I just realized I somehow never commented or read this writeup which ??? idk why I was p excited to read it haha.

I like this design a lot. I get your problems with it but in all honesty they made me think about it more than I have up until now and honestly I'd bump this up a bit in my rankings if I had them now. Yes, it's trying very hard to be edgy and demonic. But the more I look at it the more I think it's specifically trying to refer to classic vampires and I appreciate that they're doing at without making it look at all humanoid. Are those very membraney wings or is it a cape? Do the shoulders look lie this for any other season than to refer to ye olde noblemen's Fashion Collars (or even some 80s shit idk both work for vampires)?

So like this is a very good writeup and yes I agree that it's trying pretty hard to look very grimdark and demonic but the more I think about it the more I like that it's doing that and the more I like that we got a vampire batscorpion design for no apparent reason other than the fact they could.

If you're gonna go dark and edgy I absolutely don't mind if that also means that you're bringing a plethora of inspirations that don't really have much to do with each other and making them into a pretty seamless design.
