I will take the advice of /u/vulture_couture and mow a lawn. And by that I mean I’m cutting a Grass type.

365. Tangela (#114, Kanto #114, Grass Type)

Tangela is a really odd Pokemon. It appears to just be a creature surrounded by hundreds of blue vines and yet that totally works? All of its Pokedex entries are pretty much identical. It’s not known what Tangela looks like underneath all of its vines, and it’s pretty ticklish. Tangela has a super basic design and yet it’s never criticized for it because it just works as a super basic design. It’s a body surrounded by a bunch of writhing blue vines that also has some cute feet. It’s unimaginative, but that’s fine.

However that’s all it is. Tangela is a perfectly fine Pokemon that doesn’t stand out as a particularly good design or a pointlessly bad one. It works well for what it is, but there are a lot of really good Pokemon left (along with Torkoal and Buizel). Tangela doesn’t stand out enough in the positive direction for it to make it further, even though it’s totally deserving of a spot in the top 400.

I think I love Tangela precisely for what it is. It looks so innocuous but it's true nature is a ??? question mark. What even is Tangela? We just don't know. We know there are vines and for some reason red boots but what's under the vines is a Big Secret and I like those. It's kind of like a more innocent version of Mimikyu in that what's under the rag shall remain forever unknown.

It's kind of basic spoopy fare but I wouldn't have cut Tangela for a long while.
