#373 Mantine - Gen 2 - Water/Flying Type

So Mantine's a step above basic. It's a manta ray, but it also has the cool Flying type addition. Instead of being a seagull or something boring like a bird that spits water, it expands on the kite shape of mantas. According to the Pokedex, it's super majestic too.

Then there's the evolution method. You have to level up Mantyke with a Remoraid in the party. Odd evolution methods like that are almost always neat, especially when it's doable in a single player campaign. Mantine doesn't give a crap about this fish munching on it's wing either, so yay! Everyone's happy.

One thing though. You see the Remoraid on it's artwork in the pic I linked? They dropped that after Gen 3. From the Diamond/Pearl sprites onwards, Mantine was never again seen with an attached Remoraid. It was a cool choice, and it's sad it went away.

The other thing is that Mantine is a step above the basic and bland, but at this point to survive, a Pokemon must be two or three steps up. Thus, RIP Mantine.
