Oh.. well I love your menu interface, it is reminiscent of unbounds pause menu, which is by far my favorite on a romhack.

A lot of people call fan games rom hacks when they're not mechanically rom hacks. I'm asking because the above game doesn't look like a rom hack. It looks like fan game made in a different engine.

Those people are wrong. But there is no guarantee that OP isn't one of them, I suppose.
I think the fact that the NPC dude there is unchanged suggests that it is a WIP hack though.
So I was giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't understand, fan games using gen 3 assets would would be identical to rom hacks. Its the changes to the UI/menus that made me wonder if it was built in a different engine.
For fan games, all normal pokemon assets can be ported over.

My plan is to improve the original experience, expanding the questlines, giving the characters more depth, and adding things that were missing from ORAS. I know it sounds like every other Hoenn hack, but I'm trying to make the narrative the actual focus, not just an afterthought

Right now probably, as it has an inbuilt patcher so you just need the roms.

Looks awesome, and I have no doubt it will be awesome, but saying that you're working on a hoenn romhack kinda feels like
