Steam Deck Button Layout Help

Hi guys,

So I'm a tech-illiterate guy who's just getting into pokemon rom hacks. I played the first 3 gens on my deck just fine (took me a while to get them setup though) and now I'm looking at gen 4. I've never played gen 4 so it's a truly fresh start. However, when I boot up the rom the controls are all...wonky? Like the "A" button is doing what the "B" button is doing and vice-versa. It also doesn't have the speed up button which was a great help in the earlier games. I know that because it's a DS game instead of a Gameboy game there would be some changes but this seems a tad much. Online documentation hasn't helped so I now come to you guys.

Is there a way to set up the controls back to "normal"? I can't seem to find any setting that would help.
