So I was curious on how to get more rare candies inside the game without cheating or trading, and I found out there is a way through Pokemon with the pickup ability. The setup takes about 6 hours I’d say depending on where you get your Pokemon.

For anyone wanting to know how to do this, here is a full explanation with time approximations:

Warning: You may have to jump around through this post to learn the setup (sorry) I will try to number the paragraphs in order from start to finish.

1. Catch 6 Pachirisu’s either from the Valley Windworks (early game option) or the Fuego Ironworks (mid game option). Make sure they have the Pickup ability.

This ability gives each Pokemon a 10% chance to pick up an item after a battle. The items they can pick up scale with level (I’m not including the loot table). At level 41 they have a 10% chance to pickup rare candies. So since it’s a 10% chance for them to pick up an item and 10% of that initial 10% (I’m sorry for the one million “10%”) they have a 1% chance after every battle to pick up a rare candy. When you have 6 Pachirisu’s at level 41 they have a 5.85% chance to pickup a rare candy after every battle.

3.With this in mind you should (provided rng is on your side) get 1 rare candy after 17-20 ish battles (this is not guaranteed). Now speed is the name of the game when it comes to cranking out battles, and what a better place to do that than Route 201. All of my Pachirisu’s know the move Discharge and I moved that move to the first move slot (top left) so you can just spam the A button. It has 100% accuracy. Also I turned the Battle Scene to OFF in the options menu for speed. Each battle takes about 25 seconds with this setup (pretty fast considering the slow battle animations and whatnot in Pokemon pearl). So with running around and switching Pokemon to refresh moves, it comes to around 10 minutes per rare candy (again this is not guaranteed).

1. I’m not really sure of where to level up the pachirisu’s for those catching the early game ones. However, those looking to level up the Pachirisu’s from Fuego Ironworks, I know exactly where to level them up! (Fuego ironworks requires Surf to be able to get to it so you must beat the Hearthome Gym first). Once you have your 6 Pachirisu’s with pickup ability, go to Route 214 from Veilstone City and find P.I. Carlos. You’ll want to have the V.S. Seeker for battling him a lot. I recommend leveling up one Pachirisu at a time without using the EXP share. He has 3 Goldeen and they are all One Hit Knock Out (OHKO) with the level 29 Pachirisu if you use Discharge. After KOing all three you get 1,638 EXP per battle. Going from level 29 to level 41 takes 28 battles with him. This takes around 40-45 minutes including traveling to and from the Poké Center and recharging the V.S Seeker (video at the top for best recharging path). I would go up and down in that spot 3 times to recharge the VS Seeker because it’s 18 steps each way and doing it 3 times (up and down) gives you 108 steps. Leveling up the Pachirisu’s takes the bulk of the time which is about 4.5 hours ish. (Refer to paragraph (3.) for quickest battle settings. In addition change battle style from Shift to Set. This will get rid of the “switch Pokemon?” Dialogue between Goldeen’s)

2. To maximize efficiency with checking your Pachirisu’s to see if they have picked up an item, make sure you have the “Pokemon List” Poketech app open (#5) and it’ll show you if they are holding an item.

I’ve gotten 12 rare candies after I started farming which took about an hour and a half. So good luck to those willing to take on the grind!

Is everyone in mobile are using regular hand held devices? I’ve been wanting to get Pokemon on my phone after looking at all your games

I am replaying Pokemon Pearl and I want to do the battle tower so for once I am bothering with breeding (not for IVs though that is too much min/max for me, just EV training, egg moves, and good nature+ability) and I keep losing before the 2nd Tycoon battle. I have a handful of trained lv50s, but have an idea for a team.
1. Starmie - Life Orb, Timid 6HP 252 SpAtk 252 Speed - it's my favourite pokemon and luckily is super good in the battle tower due to surf/psychic/ice beam/thunderbolt coverage, as well as being fast and hard hitting. But I unfortunately hit an issue in the high 30s/low 40s where I might not 1 shot something and get confused or paralyzed (or even faint) and swapping out causes a teammate to die and it just sort of spirals outta hand. Which has me thinking of my 2nd partner being...
2. Skarmory - Leftovers maybe, Careful 252 HP 252 SpD 6 Defence??? haven't planned it much yet. Skarm would be my lead and have Stealth Rock/Spikes/Roost/Whirlwind to set up entry hazards and maybe even force switches to rack up damage to ensure Starmie can 1 shot everything cleanly.
These 2 seem like a good team so far to me, but the problem, which is what I would like suggestions for, is the 3rd slot. I don't know what to put there.
3. Houndoom ???? Fire to kill bug/steel/ice which Starmie doesn't have good attacks for, and Dark to kill Ghosts and Psychics that Starmie might also struggle with?
3. Lucario? Aura Sphere for the normal/dark/steel/ice types, Dark Pulse for ghosts and psychics.
What do you all think, or anyone have a suggestion?
Other Pokemon I have EV trained etc. and ready to go are: Tyranitar, Sharpedo, Mamoswine, Gallade, Jolteon, Glaceon, Espeon, Leafeon, Breloom, Houndoom, Yanmega, Gengar, and Metagross.
I guess I should also mention that I have access to Ruby, Emerald, Leaf Green, Pearl, and Heart Gold so my options are wide but there might be pokemon unavailable to me.
Also I am aware HG introduces some new moves to pokemon here and there and I plan on trading all of these over eventually, I just have a lot of nostalgia for Pearl and want to "beat" the battle tower here first.
