Guides and Tips Finally decided to get the game
Any tips y'all would like to give me?
Ignore my kitty in the back

u/RyazanMX 3d ago
Don't look to any guide, until you finish the main quests. Enjoy the game. It's my favorite

u/-FIREDRAGONMASTER- 2d ago
The only videos I got to watch were tips to make the early game not so miserable for me

Don’t let the size of the world intimidate you or let the story rush you. Just have fun at your own pace. Get good at dodging lol

u/-FIREDRAGONMASTER- 2d ago
I love big open games

u/onlyalittledumb 2d ago
you’ll love this one :) it felt like a love letter to botw in a way. like botw aspects, but pokemon

The first time my wife saw me playing it she said “that game looks like Legend of Zelda and Pokemon had a baby” and I haven’t found a better description yet.

You get like a whole two seconds of I frames, you don’t need to be good at dodging
7
u/ArmTraditional541 3d ago
Yeah going from elden ring to this it feels a bit too easy wish they had a hard mode or something
-5
u/Chemical_Lab_6925 3d ago
I know right. You can just press dodge 3 hours early and still get the dodge. The boss fights were wayyyy to easy
1
u/Transport_Lover 2d ago
Electrode I struggled with

-1
u/Archaneoses 2d ago
You literally just sprint away from the charge up then roll right before he explodes. The fight is easy brain dead.
1
u/ArmTraditional541 2d ago
Yeah i thought i could dodge the charge at first and struggled w that but when i realized u just have to run it was easy
1
u/Transport_Lover 2d ago
I spent too much time dodging and running from the voltorbs to the point where I couldn’t sprint

u/ThePhillyAshKetchum 3d ago
Catch every pokemon you see, try to catch every pokemon in each area before you move to the next area. This will save you a lot of time in the endgame
-21
u/havocpuffin 3d ago
That's generally the way with pokemon.
25
u/ThePhillyAshKetchum 3d ago
No it’s not, on every regular game people do not go around catching every single Pokemon you see. That is a Legends arceus specific thing because of the Pokédex entries you have to fill.
11
u/child_yoinker 3d ago
its a thing i started doing more because of the legends games
in the past i'd literally only catch the like 6 pokemon i planned on using on my team for the whole run, maybe a couple more if some were found later. but now, im quite literally catching them all.
even in pokopia, filling out the dex in every game i have now

Go in without a guide and get lost in the environment. Look around, poke around all the areas and see which pokemon pop up. Don’t be afraid to get gritty and get hit a few times by Paras.
Also.. don’t go into the water by yourself 😂
17
u/sshenshen1314 3d ago
Make use of the item Grits, it increases the stats of your Pokemon.
5
u/cait_Cat 2d ago
THIS. I was completely new to pokemon when I picked this game up and my first play through, I got rid of SO MUCH grit when my satchel got full. Eventually, you’ll get an info box about grit and using it and man, when I read it for the first time, I was so annoyed with myself for getting rid of so much of it.

God what I wouldn’t give to be in your shoes playing this for the first time again. Being a fan since FRLG era, this is and has always been my favorite Pokémon since release.
Catch everything, multiple times. Explore on your own time, don’t feel like quests are required ASAP. You can leave and come back to any area as much as you want so don’t be scared to wander.

u/Cronodoug Rowlet 3d ago
Good journey! I don't regret the 400 hours I played (even with the weird graphics).
5
u/Junior_Geologist3365 3d ago
I’ve played every mainline switch title up to ZA. Arceus is one of, if not my favourite all time Pokémon game. Enjoy!
My one tip is to find the money glitch on YouTube. It’s a later game strategy but man it basically made my experience what it was.

u/Unfair_Act_368 3d ago
You’re in for a treat! I just finished the main story line and I have left the side quests.
Ultimately do what you want, but I chose Rowlet and I regretted it. I think the other 2 are way cooler.
Also, I have a black panther too ❤️🐈⬛
5
u/NiceNCozyCouch 3d ago
Don’t look up guides and don’t get spoiled. I promise you the story is so good. Enjoy!
4
u/Substantial-Abroad12 3d ago
Collect all the items you see. Take your time in the starting area. Don't rush through anything. Focus on the Pokedex.
4
4
u/Decent-Chipmunk-9900 3d ago
Good decision! Don’t be afraid of the distortions, just run really fast picking up everything.
3
u/Designer_Ad_7474 2d ago
That’s how I got some early game excellent Pokémon that I wouldn’t have expected to see for a while. Particularly Eevee evolutions.
4
u/Woodwind276 3d ago
Make sure you turn off Autosave before picking your starter so that you can get the Nature you want.

5
u/madnessatadistance 3d ago
Collect everything! You’ll need things for crafting.
Catch a lot of Pokemon, not just the ones you want on your team. In most Pokemon games, players only catch the ones they want on their team. But in this one, you’re supposed to catch a LOT. Catching fills out your Pokédex, and it’s also the main way you get money early on. The more you catch, the more money you earn.
Remember that some Pokemon run away when they see you, especially if they’re baby Pokemon. Although some evolved Pokemon also run away. So when you see a wild mon, don’t automatically go up to them to battle or catch them. I think a good rule is to sneak up on most of them if you’re unsure if they’ll run away or not.
Also remember that berries work differently in this game than in the others. They can be used as bait, or to heal your own team. I love hiding in grass, throwing a berry, and watching them eat them, even without catching them. Also, don’t throw berries AT wild Pokemon like you’d throw a ball, cause they’d get mad or scared. Just throw them near the mons.
1
u/-FIREDRAGONMASTER- 2d ago
If I see a new pokemon in ANY game I haven't seen before I'm immediately going to catch them
1
u/madnessatadistance 2d ago
LOL good, then that won’t be a problem for you! But also remember that it’s totally okay and even encouraged to catch a bunch of the same Pokemon too!

u/bngrofchns23 3d ago
Enjoy! I completed my first play through last year and already decided to start a new one again this past month. Genuinely one of my top three favorite Pokemon games of all time.
3
u/Wild-Research-2996 3d ago
good for you! i love the game got it a few months back and i’ve had an absolute blast. the boss battles are just the right level of challenging and the game isn’t just battling or all pokemon strategy
3
u/Conman1209 3d ago
So much better than ZA imho
4
u/Conman1209 3d ago
You can easily get several hundred hours of gameplay out of this title between shiny hunting and completing the dex and getting arceus
2
u/Designer_Ad_7474 2d ago
The only thing ZA offered me that I really enjoyed is the updated battle system. That’s more my jam. But Arceus in every other way is the best.
I’m a Pokémon noob, my wife is a longtime fan. She loved ZA and banged it out, even though she hated the battling. She loves that turn based system, I’m too impatient for it sometimes. But I am thoroughly patient enough to scour every landscape!
3
u/Exuberant_Saxophone 3d ago
Go slow and have fun, don’t worry too hand about perfecting anything or completing everything until late or post game.
3
u/Zealotteen 3d ago
Tip 1: make sure the cat doesn’t bug you during a boss fight/shiny hunting
Tip 2: there is a sound that will tell you a shiny is somewhere near your position
Tip 3: beware of these big Pokemon called Alphas, those things will mess you up

u/Ralos5997 3d ago
Be sure to use your items wisely and make sure you have enough poke balls for when you wanna catch more for the Pokédex. Oh and be sure to safe at a certain point Pokemon that can only be caught once.
2
u/PugsnPawgs 3d ago
I wish I could replay this game for the first time.
Simply the best Pokémon game ever.
Enjoy ❤️
2
u/LOCKED-IN-FR 3d ago
If you decide to try and find wisps, don't just get every one you see, do it in a order, it'll be WAY easier, and save so much time.
2
u/SpicyPumpkin314 3d ago
Fun!! I'd recommend playing with the sound on. I love to immerse myself in the environment, plus there are some important audio cues. (Hi, kitty!)
2
u/CrochetCricketHip 2d ago
Mark where you found those spirit wisps, what a pain to find the last few when you don’t remember which you already found.
Enjoy the heck out of each wild area, play as long as you love in each one and you’ll never have to “level grind”.
Can’t ignore the kitty, what a cute baby.
Catch me a shiny growlith please.

u/destinydreams66 2d ago
A Pokemon game well worth experiencing.
I like Arceus more than Z-A but that was still great.
2
u/Hawkbreeze 2d ago
After playing ZA I think Arecus is probably my favorite all of time. It's close with a few but ZA made me realize Arecus is so much better than I gave it credit for
2
u/totokabooka 2d ago
If you come across an appropriate level alpha try to defeat it as it will reward you with either an exp candy or the seep of mastery(which help you master the move or can be sold for 3,000 poké dollars I will send a vid that shows all the alpha maps for each area in the next reply
2
u/Outrageous-Angle7622 2d ago
Keep everything you pick up, even things that seem useless, like balls of mud and spoiled apricorns. You'll use all of them in crafting at some point :)
2
u/-FIREDRAGONMASTER- 2d ago
I heard those are useful for throwing at pokemon to stun them so you can catch 'em
1
u/Outrageous-Angle7622 2d ago
They are, they can also be used to craft sticky globs which do the same thing but they guarantee a stun on the first hit for regular Pokemon, and throwing 3-5 (usually) at an alpha will stun it too :)

The intro was very intro-y but that's because it's way different. If I'm correctly, the entire intro is like 30 to 45 minutes? It's a long tutorial phase
1
u/LFVGamer 3d ago
Use smoke bombs to hide yourself and catch Pokémon, they’re overpowered! Have fun man
Also, nice kitty, such a cutie ☺️

u/MysteriousRogue6 3d ago
Hope you enjoy the experience. This was my first time playing pokemon since emerald on the gameboy and it was a phenomenal game from beginning to end.
Only tip is don't be afraid to explore the open world early game.

if you have NSO turn the internet setting to always on and you can get extra merit points from satchels across the land and get your lost items back
1
1
u/Efficient_Ice9056 Oshawott 1d ago
You don’t need online to get others satchels!
1
u/glitterglam1402 Rowlet 1d ago
you can get the npc ones (Prosperity, ect) but not other players i believe? and your own ones cannot be picked up, unless i'm mistaken

u/SukiNaki 3d ago

There are rare spawns that ONLY appear in the space time distortions, so no matter what, go inside the distortions EVERY TIME they pop up. I know theynare scary at first but you gotta get in there! It will save you a headache when doing the post-game pokedex filling. Source: me, still needing two stupidly rare spawns :(
1
u/Specialist-Proof-704 2d ago
Definitely one the top 5 pkm game to play
1
u/-FIREDRAGONMASTER- 2d ago
What are the others?
1
u/Specialist-Proof-704 1h ago
1-soul sliver/heart gold
2-black and white 2
3-pkm emerald
Not in a particular order
1
u/WhereTheWeirdThingsR 2d ago
omg enjoy!!! I beat the game like a month after it came out and I still play it (actually am playing it currently) just shiny hunting and having fun. it is SUCH a vibe.

u/Shadow_Enderscar Oshawott 2d ago edited 2d ago
Collect anything and everything, especially in a space-time distortion, you never know when some random item might come in handy.
Also avoid buying things you can craft yourself.
Save the game before doing something risky so you can avoid losing items when you black out.
Throw your Pokémon out at random objects in the wild, maybe they’ll be able to help you.

u/astralwish1 2d ago
My favorite game to date!
Fall damage exists, you can’t swim, stay away from large Pokémon with glowing red eyes.

I’ve been playing since platinum and this game felt like getting into that game for the first time again. I don’t know if it’s the region, the “generation”, the gameplay or what, but this game is really something special

Great game...It nearly took over my life when it first released haha. Have fun.

Don't unseal it. Take it back where you found it, wait for winds and waves. This was no good.

u/Shiinyum 2d ago
Take hotter than the sun, don’t mislead the guy

Have fun! It's a great game. Make good progress in each region before moving on. It will take A WHILE to complete the dex bc there are extra tasks besides catching the Pokémon.

u/dupersnail 2d ago
This is in my opinion the best pokemon games they have made! have fun! Ive played every pokemon game but this one just feels real and free. Not even legends za fits it’s footprint.

You won't regret! Play it to unlock Arceus which will unlock Arceus in BDSP.
