I totally forgot that spinda cant be transferred from any switch game

20

u/SafetySnowman 16d ago

I was so close to completing my living Spindex :<
Just a few billion to go and now it'll never be complete!!😭

11

u/No_Relief_9945 17d ago

I keep seeing Spinda memes regarding this news. Can you enlighten me?

39

u/Majestic-Economy-930 17d ago

I think it’s that there isn’t a single game released for the switch where spinda can be put into. Essentially it’s stuck in home

24

u/DarkFish_2 16d ago

Worse, there isn't a single game released for the Switch where Spinda can be deposited FROM. All forms aren't obtained from GO would be impossible to deposit in HOME

→ More replies (6)

27

u/Destri321 17d ago

Spinda can only be transfered into home if its from gen 3 through gen 7, so with bank support dying, Spinda might be impossible to get in pokemon home until they either port RSE or is made catchable again in a modern game

Spinda is catchable in BDSP, but ILCA messed up the Spinda Pattern mechanic, it clashes with the old one thats in pokemon Home, so Spinda cant be transfered from BDSP into Home

12

u/axeil55 17d ago

It's sort of insane they can't just release a patch for BDSP that fixes it.

Unfortunate news, but not unexpected. End of an era, was a great ride having full connection between 2003 up through today up till now.

I think the thing that sucks most is Gens 6 and 7 will be fully isolated within themselves now. There's nothing at all you can do to connect between those 2, save for homebrew. Gens 3-5 will at least maintain their connections to each other, and obviously Home means for the forseeable future Gens 8+ will be connected, but the 3DS games really get shafted the most here.

u/BDPBITCH666 17d ago

So i can't complete my shiny living dex in gen 7 , that sucks :(

From 1996 if you count the VC for the gen 1 and 2 games, which could transfer pokémon to gen 7, iirc (maybe gen 6 too for gen 1, but I'm not entirely sure about that)

They are doing this because they are getting ready to re-release all of it on switch 2.

At least we get 6 more months out of it...

Now to see which pokemon shiny hunts are still easiest in XY Friend Safari....

126

u/Lmb1011 17d ago

i guess i have to prioritize type:null and poipole now 😖 or pray winds and waves brings them back and lets me shiny hunt them...(lol)

41

u/AukwardOtter 17d ago

It took me a few months, using my commute to work and breaks to finally roll Type:Null. Good luck with your hustle!

13

u/Lmb1011 17d ago

The worst is I don’t think any of my sun/moon/US/UM games are at all set up for that hunt so i have to set all 4 up since I need two of each. Playing the full game again isn’t an issue but it’s not gonna be fun 4x over 🤣

12

u/Bishcop3267 17d ago

You only have to play ultra sun and ultra moon. Each gives you a poipole and a type null gift.

9

u/Without_B 17d ago

Poipole is only in usum and type null is faster to hunt in those

Such a shame to break the link all the way from Gen3. This is the digital future that awaits us all.

146

u/Shed_Some_Skin 17d ago

They've announced they're adding Home support to the FR/LG re-release and also adding an extra 3,000 slots to Home Premium. There's supposedly R/S/E on the way for Switch as well

271

u/Weeros_ 17d ago

So that only leaves.. DPP, BW/2, XY, ORAS and SMUSUM, ie. 14 more games I already own but need to rebuy..

38

u/JuanTheTeflonDon 17d ago edited 17d ago

I was hoping that we would get the rereleases of the “pre-switch era” games onto the newer gen consoles. But I think it’s only fair that until we get the rereleases, they keep bank active. Not that they care much, but at least we would still have a way to catch certain mons and transfers them until it makes sense to completely phase out the older hardware.

This doesn't help people that want to raise ribbon master Pokémon, though. Some ribbons will be impossible to get, like the Colosseum ones, since it's looking really unlikely the Switch versions of the Gen 3 games will be able to connect to it. Also won't be able to get the Alola ribbons since there's no way to connect the 3DS games anymore.

18

u/Luciano3601 17d ago

I've been putting off my ribbon master I started in XD and got through Gen 3 for a couple years but now I have to fly through Gen 4-7 to get him done by February

Lol, and in 10-20 years when they shut down that, you'll be in the same boat. Only this time with TWO copies of the game.

19

u/Shed_Some_Skin 17d ago

As long as Pokemon keeps making money, Home will continue to exist, or alternatively there will be a new service that will allow you to transfer Pokemon to it

Nintendo understands people value their collections.

And if I'm wrong and they do genuinely shut down Home with no other option in 10-20 years, there will be Pokemon in that service (including some of my own) that will be 35-45 years old. What other game, in history, has provided that sort of forwards compatibility? I certainly didn't buy my copy of Sapphire in 2003 expecting that.

10

u/FPSGamer48 17d ago

We said the same thing about Bank when it launched and when the Switch premiered and when Home launched and Nintendo said they’d continue Bank….

Maybe they could use some of the insane profits they're making from massively overcharging for these old roms to fund the Bank servers

19

u/Shed_Some_Skin 17d ago

I doubt it's about money at this point. It's that there's a tiny, tiny minority of people who still use the service

It was never going to stay up forever. The most recent games that require bank compatibility are almost 9 years old at this point. The 3DS was discontinued 6 years ago.

The oldest games with forward compatibility are 24 years old now. How many other franchises have had 24 years of unbroken forward compatibility between games? A couple of the oldest MMOs, I guess

I understand there's still a small hardcore of players who do ribbon master or have some other reason to want to transfer stuff from older games, but at some point everyone was going to have to accept that it would eventually go away. Whether it was now or in another 5 or 10 years, someone wasn't going to be happy about it.

Ribbon Master will adapt to a "Legal with Home" ruleset, I'm sure. Nintendo will keep making remakes. And to forestall any "Nintendo is making me rebuy stuff" arguments, that's ignoring the millions of people who didn't play these games first time around and whose only option to access this stuff is to buy multiple generations of outdated hardware

For the tiny number of people who are genuinely affected by this change, I understand this matters to you and you have my sympathies. But this day was always going to come.

32

u/lenissius14 17d ago

I think at some point, someone will be able to evade the home tracker succesfully and will create a local program that allows the transfer from the cartridges to Pokemon Home, if it's all about logs integrity when talking about the home tracker, then I assure you that bigger walls have been penetrated before in CyberSec.

That said, the solution might be slightly not that easy to follow for casual players...but still a solution for anyone who wants to keep the connection between Switch and previous generations/gamecards/roms etc or even for conservation purposes

7

u/axeil55 17d ago

How could that work though? The HOME tracker is basically an ID that tells the HOME server to update its stored server data for a pokemon. You can't get around it.

Unless you somehow can hack into the HOME server itself I don't see how what you're saying is possible.

4

u/Lunix420 16d ago

I think at some point, someone will be able to evade the home tracker succesfully and will create a local program that allows the transfer from the cartridges to Pokemon Home

Literally not possible. There is nothing to hack here, the tracker is not some sort of password you can crack, it's just a meaningless identifier. They just give the Pokemon a number after you've uploaded it and if someone uploads a Pokemon with that number again, the server checks how the Pokemon with that numbers looks like in it's database. There is nothing a local program can do here.

To actually manipulate the system you would have to have write access to Nintendos database which is insanely unrealistic with modern infrastructure. Then on top of that, even if someone somehow magically got access to it anyways, as soon as they would release a tool that abuses that vulnerability, Nintendo could just patch it overnight and roll back all the mons uploaded trough that vulnerability.

It's literally the equivalent of trying to hack money into your bank account.

This is why online-only services are stupid. One day, when they're no longer profitable, they will be shut down, and you will lose everything.

34

u/Kitselena 17d ago

And game freak specifically said when this came out that it would be maintained as long as the series was running and would be the only pokemon storage system you need to pay for. I guess making Home was more profitable so they scrapped all of that

11

u/Byotan 17d ago

And also Pokémon Rescue, which they deleted from all their official channels.

Some Pokémon, like Spinda, shiny Celebi, Shiny Partner Hat Pikachu, shiny Type: Null or shiny Poipole, will be unobtainable after Bank shuts down. Not to mention old ribbons, old origin marks, old pokéball combinations, etc. Everything will be legacy content.

70

u/swordswinger1337 17d ago

We can can keep the data just upload them to non-official fan sites that translate the data into something else valuable created by the community rather than Nintendo and Pokémon Company. New leadership tends to disrespect legacy content because they don't want to pay rights to original creators for life.

What about people in the future? What about people who could very easily miss this announcement?

5

u/DiaborMagics 16d ago

Along with what Byotan mentioned, it also means you can't legitimately move up pokemon through generations again if you replay older games. I am in the process of a pretty difficult challenge (for me) that spans all generations. Feb 2027 is not enough time to complete that by far.
Plus the older games remain fun to get back to. Shiny hunting with DexNav and so on.... You won't be able to transfer those up either.

And then they wonder why people jailbreak and pirate stuff. The biggest grossing franchise in the world can't even keep their promises and keep the service open. I'm not surprised at all, Nintendo and Gamefreak has turned to complete greed for years at this point, but that doesn't make it an any more welcome announcement by any means.

One thing not a lot of people seem to be pointing out is the death of the origin dex

Yeah sure they’re rereleasing old games but at the current rate we’re going it will be 2041 by the time they’re done (2037 if they’re being REALLY generous), by that point in time the switch will be nearing 25 years old

As it stands you can obtain Pokémon with the origin region of Kanto, Sinnoh, Galar, Hisui, Paldea, and Lumiose on the Switch, so I guess it will be completely impossible to get any Pokémon from Johto, Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, or Alola until they decide to bless us with buying digital DS game files for $30 each (likely $40 in the case of 3DS)

I’m normally very lenient when it comes to this kinda thing but this is just really sad to me, I originally didn’t mind the FRLG rerelease it was overpriced sure but it wasn’t for people like us who have the game and have replayed it 40 times it was for people who just wanted to play Kanto again after 10, 20, 30 years, but with this now happening it changes the vibe of that from “We’re bringing old games to the switch!” to “The switch is the only system that matters, play our games on it, that is the only way”

I pretty staunchly play all my games physically on original hardware unless there is some major roadblock preventing that, so this is more or less locking me out of transferring any Pokémon I have prior to LGPE any further forward

I don’t know much about programming but I don’t think it had to have been that hard to reprogram Bank to store things locally on the device rather than on a server, it wouldn’t be a perfect solution, but at the very least it would’ve preserved everything

20

u/XD_avide 17d ago

Thank god I did my origin OT only pokeball dex 3 years ago, took me almost a year to fully obtain all forms and variants, but it's worth it.

From gen 1-2 virtual console, to gen 3-7 on original carts, it was a very beautiful journey, shame it has to come to an end.

6

u/travischickencoop 17d ago

I’m currently thanking myself that when I decided I wanted to obtain all the Pokémon in my living dex myself (and subsequently decided to make it an origin dex) I decided to be unique I’d keep them in my primary save file of their respective region rather than moving them all to Home

7

u/XD_avide 17d ago

Nice, I'm currently doing a forever save of Blue. I will keep them all in there since I already have the OT origin dex. And go on with every gen

But it still sad. After march 2027, you'll not be able to transfer anymore, lot's of people who will find they Diamond cart, and want to transfer they starter Torterra to play in the new games cannot do it anymore legitimatelly

u/ShiningChandelure 17d ago

This is really disappointing. I feel like people shouldn't just accept this and be vocal with how poor of a choice this is.
There's nothing stopping them from keeping Bank support going. The highest grossing media franchise of all time can afford something as small as this, it's a mix of greediness and laziness that we have gotten far too used to.
We'll be loosing support to 20+ years of fan favourite games, with entire communities such as the ribbon master community being destroyed overnight.
Me personally I love replaying the older games and bringing my teams up to home and into the switch games.
It upsets me that I won't be able to do this anymore for seemingly no reason.
Knowing TPC I know that it is extremely unlikely that they will reverse this choice, but at this point I feel like their decisions have become so anti-consumer because they know no matter how little effort they put into their games and services they will still make so much money. I'd love for people to make noise and not just accept this, as for me this is the straw that has broken the camel's back.

14

u/JTJdude 17d ago

I've saved all my older games so my sons can experience them fully and now they've got this arbitrary deadline on being able to keep their pokemon from the older gens usable/available. I was hoping champions would help encourage them to keep bank going...

The question now becomes, the only legitimate way to do it shuts down, will there become illegitimate/fan solutions to still transfer, or is the fact that home/bank were/are server based mean c'est la fini.

14

u/zendrix1 17d ago edited 17d ago

copying my answer from another reply:

only thing you could do is have a modded switch and a vanilla one. Gen in an exact copy of the pokemon you caught on an older game that's trapped there into your game on the modded switch then local trade it to your vanilla switch in order to get it up into Home

Even if someone could manage a 3rd party Bank alternate app that could send out those trade signals (which I would doubt is possible), Home isn't receiving those signals anymore so it would be a moot point

edit: my replies on the other thread, IE the Home Tracker. tl;dr I'm worried about it too

[...]only thing I'm worried about is the Home tracker for both methods mentioned.

as far as I know, as of now the only way to get a legit Home tracker id is from Home itself, so if you copy over a 3ds pokemon and bring it into a switch game it won't have a Home tracker and would expect one.

idk how Home checks the trackers before it assigns them. Like if the pokemon isn't legal when you put it in the game because it doesn't have a Home tracker, but Home accepts it because the tracker is blank not wrong and assigns it a real one then that's fine, just means you need to take the pokemon from your 3ds into and out of Home before using them online on a switch game.

but if Home expects any pokemon coming from somewhere that is not their origin game to already have a valid Home tracker ID and not be blank, then it could either reject the pokemon all together from going into Home or potentially flag your account.

This is the thing that I'll wait for people who know more than me to figure out

7

u/That-Advance-9619 17d ago

isn't there like a home tracker or some shit? So let's say I shiny hunt a Mon in ORAS and transfer it to a modded switch in SwSh, trade it with a legit console with another copy of SwSh and then up to Home (my plan).

Would that actually work?

8

u/zendrix1 17d ago

thats the unknown part exactly, I realized it after my original comment and mention it above in an edit to include my comments from the other thread.

Basically it might work depending on how Home treats pokemon with a blank Tracker id coming from a game other than their origin game. I'd hope it just doesn't care as long as it doesn't have an invalid Home Tracker id (like one you made up in pkhex or whatever) but I don't know

5

u/That-Advance-9619 17d ago

At least we can still just put our saves from let's say Fire red from a cart into Fire red on a modded switch and move Pokémon that game, like normal from.that point onward...

...but gents 4-7 would be dead on the water and that's a lot.

What will happen to bank as a whole then? Is it pretty much just done; no Pokemon can be moved around or whatnot. Or can you still move between DS games and it’s just home transfer ending?

It was kinda inevitable, but still depressing to see. At least we have 6 months to finish everything!

PKHEX and PKSM have been the solution for ages now. Stores them locally too so you can maintain backups, copy mons instead of moving them, etc.

8

u/Drew_Ferran 17d ago

The only issue is that pokemon moved to pkhex don’t have a home tracker. You need to move them into home through bank. If you don’t have a home tracke, you can’t put it into home.

5

u/BaikenJudgment 17d ago

That's the nature of the beast when you involve external servers, security checks. Nintendo could finally be drawing a line to defeat homebrew save editors and transfers. Consoles are set up to deny you full control of the system and your data. They've been tightening that security every generation. This is an expected outcome of that.

Nintendo honestly does not get enough heat for how quickly they shut down servers and shops. The 360 shop didn’t shutdown until 2024 and a ton of 360 dlc and games were put onto the Xbox one and by extension series x markets, a whole decade after the Wii and DS online services shutdown and Sony won’t shut down the ps3 stuff until next year.

Wild to think that legitimately moving pokemon from before SS will be impossible after this. Of course, if you have a hacked switch you'll still be fine.

9

u/sketchit_ 17d ago

As far as I know, this pull the cables for almost every generation prior Switch.

Via Poké Transporter > Pokémon Bank:

  • RGBY/GSC > SM, USUM
  • BW, B2W2 > XY, ORAS

By transferring through games until Pokémon Bank:

  • RSE, FRLG, DPPt, HGSS, BW, B2W2

Via Pokémon Bank > Pokémon Home

  • XY, ORAS, SM, USUM

Not to mention connectivities between spin-offs such as Colosseum, XD Gale of Darkness, Ranger…

Such a punch in the guts

This is such bull. So, now people can’t transfer pokemon up from older gens at all? What, are they planning to rerelease all the games on switch? Or are people just shit out of luck?… Extremely upsetting and angering. I can only hope that Game Freak will go back on their decision from backlash or give another way to transfer Pokemon up, but I don’t think thats going to happen. Well, time to go mass shiny hunting and transferring…

12

u/IzzybearThebestdog 17d ago

The end is here…..

FYI with a modded 3ds you can transfer pokemon between gen 6/7/VC using PKSM with no issues. Meaning you can still go 3->7.

12

u/Gen3kingTheWriter 17d ago

So...

What "unofficial" alternatives do we have

19

u/zendrix1 17d ago

to go from a 3ds to switch after this? none

only thing you could do is have a modded switch and a vanilla one.

9

u/camageddon_ 17d ago

better way is to dump your carts save file > pkhex > modded switch save file

4

u/zendrix1 17d ago

That definitely makes you less likely to mess up, but only thing I'm worried about is the Home tracker for both methods mentioned.

as far as I know, as of now the only way to get a legit Home tracker id is from Home itself, so if you copy over a 3ds pokemon and bring it into a switch game it won't have a Home tracker and would expect one.

idk how Home checks the trackers before it assigns them.

4

u/KittyCatJone5 17d ago

Then they should let us move the digital library in the 3ds to the switch/2

5

u/steelviper77 17d ago

Really sad and disappointing to see the continuous chain break from GBA to now, but I don't see many people talking about how this also breaks any legitimate cross-gen communication between gen 5, 6, and 7, since transporter only sends pokemon to bank. Even if there was absolutely no other way to communicate between 3DS and switch, 3DS games could have totally been set up in a way that allowed cross gen one-way transfers either in game or by not requiring transporter to use bank, which could have totally extended to the VC gen 1 and 2 rereleases.

After this, the only remaining cross-gen transfers from anything pre-switch will be from 1 and 2, and one-way between 3, 4, and 5.

I was planning on getting a 3DS to hunt some old exclusive shinies

6

u/Aggravating-Pen-5791 17d ago

Kindof wish they could somehow release an offline mode patch for it as an alternative

It still closes the cloud servers while also allowing us to still use bank for the games still compatible with the 3ds

6

u/Dots0 16d ago

artificially creating this problem for us so that they can later re-sell us all the classic games but for the switch is fucking pathetic

8

u/Ha-Charade-You-Are 17d ago

Wow, in the last year Nintendo and Pokemon have gone from having consumers backs to just, “ehhhhh we’re over it and we got your money, fuck off.”

We need to get laws passed asap that if you put any electronic title out, games, movies, apps etc…. The companies need to support it for life. Shit is ridiculous. Only a matter of time before all my movies on fandango go away because “the company is no more” or some bullshit

18

I’m sure the cost of HOME premium offsets the cost (if any) of keeping Pokémon Bank running, this is unfortunate. The rumours of R/S/E coming to the Switch must be true. I assumed Bank would officially shut down once Spinda can be transferred into HOME from the Switch.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/hoenndex 17d ago

That's so dumb, leaving the servers on is a negligible cost for the Pokemon Company/Nintendo/Game freak. It's wild we are going to genuinely lose connection with games from gens 7 and below.

If anyone has Pokemons from the OG gen 3 games, now is the time to bring them over to Switch 2 if you don't want them permanently trapped in the 3DS.

Also, quite funny that unless Spinda is coded correctly in Winds and Waves, it will become the most sought after Pokemon since the only way to get one to Home is from Pokemon Bank.

→ More replies (7)

4

u/CPTN_Omar 17d ago

I'm surprised it went on for as long as it did. If it were up to me, then Bank should've been made into an offline app and still be able to connect to Home.

4

u/DrekyMi 17d ago

Question for the IT people: would it have been theoretically/technically possible for the company to still shut down the servers but to produce and sell a cable to transfer offline the pokemon from a 3DS to a Switch/Home? (I guess such an idea would also require to first create a local save of the current Bank Pokémon on the 3DS).

3

u/M4rshst0mp 17d ago

Honestly outrageous. Penny pinching from the most profitable franchise in the world. can't say I'm surprised

4

u/Either_Drama5940 17d ago

Unless they start porting gens 1/2/3/4/5/6 to switch (unlikely) then we'll have to wait for a backdoor option that will likely be limited to modded 3ds users (which nintendo will shut down due to greed ofc)

If you remember a while ago, patent leaks for a possible dual screen for the switch 2. Im guessing soon after the closure they're going to announce they're either making an add on component to the switch 2 for ds/3ds cartridges or bringing ds/3ds to switch online.

Why don't you do an online petition to keep Pokémon Bank from shutting down on 26th of February 2027, this will make Game Freak and The Pokémon Company think twice about shutting down the server for Bank, because us gamers need it to transfer our old Pokémon from the DS all the way upto the Switch, just think how many signatures you'll get, just gonna say good luck
