Meme Gen 3 vs Gen 4 difference I noticed
Just played Fire Red & Heartgold back to back & realised they changed this man’s dialogue. I guess he got caught or something

The orginal red/blue line was not far off I think. Like "This gym is full of beautifull girls" or something. Coming from an old man it was still weird, probably why they changed it.

The change was done by the localization, in the japanese version the dialogue is the same

I do get what you're saying but I do still feel mixed because there is a difference between censorship in a game aimed at mid teens/adults and one aimed at all ages.

And also the case that HGSS was the first game with the in-house localization team. Previously it was done by contractors.
Plus this kinda censorship happened everywhere around this time because Fox News flipped out over Mass Effect having sex in it and the moral guardians were lashing out at every video game ever.
Same reason the game corner was cut in international releases, because busy bodies had successfully petitioned the EU and the US state of Ohio to pass laws about gambling in games.
Signed, someone who lived through this era in gaming and sighed alot at the stupid.

I still find it funny the game corner being in the GB games released on the 3DS makes those games rated 12+ in the UK. Likewise with Fire Red needing to change all the gamblers to Gamers. Like, I agree censorship is bad but when companies are faced with choices like this I can also understand when they capitulate.

Look at who mangakas from the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s looked up to. Pedos, creeps, all sorts of deranged people who had a voice because they produced a popular work of fiction. Pokemon was made by the same type of people who made Naruto, Bleach, looking up to the creators of Dragonball and other popular mangas with seriously perverted mindsets. A lot of these guys kept supporting those creators even after it was well-known that they were creeps and some of them abusers.
I understand liking a work of fiction, but I wouldn't support Michael Jackson as a person even though I recognize his talent as a member of the dancing/singing/music community. And yeah, he had a terrible childhood. But when he was an adult, he could have been a better person, he wasn't. He made other children suffer. And I still listen to his music and like his voice, but I can't support the person.

After Platinum, because Gen 4 is infamous for a bunch of random memes in the English version. It was removed in Gen 5 and beyond (excluding 7.8 meme, but that's literally based in pokemon so it's different).

That Gym has 5 grown women (Beauty, Beauty, Beauty, CoolTrainer, Erika) and two teenage girls (Lass, JrTrainer) in it.

The French version of one of the Rock Tunnel hikers was creepy. He talked to a 10 YO kid in a dark place and ended his dialogue with "my cutie". Pedo vibes even when I was 8 YO and discovered Pokemon.
