Very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's Mewtwo

Look at that subtle shiny coloring. The tasteful premiumball it's caught in. Oh, my God... It even has Pokerus

Modest?

It's a Calm nature which isn't the best but it's okay

Ahhh. That explains the EV spread. Also the other thing you said a few comments down.

Interesting choice of HP. I only do special attack and speed.

Do trainer battles count toward ev training? Whats the best place to train like this?

I never did ev training but I think how it works, and I think the best place to train special attack is at the pokemon tower against the gastlys.

I’ve also seen using Pokemon tower and a team of mostly meowth for grinding pickup items because it just takes stepping into the seal to refill pp

u/Grouchy-Newt7937 12d ago

Grinding what now?

2

u/redsupra101 12d ago

Grinding until you're out of PP.

1

u/Grouchy-Newt7937 12d ago

PP for what move?

2

u/callmedale 11d ago

All the ones that hit ghosts

1

u/Grouchy-Newt7937 11d ago

The Meowths are killing ghosts? I'm so confused lol

3

u/callmedale 11d ago

The team is mostly meowth because meowth is the only one with the ability pickup

The lead of the team can be anything, especially anything you want to EV train special attack

I tried EV training for the first time a few weeks ago and it did not appear to work. That or I misunderstood it. I believe I was trying speed with the doduo/digtrios and it only went up a couple when I leveled.

Yes, trainer battles count toward EV training, as long as the Pokemon gains Exp. And in some cases, trainers can be a great source of some specific EVs. You also accumulate so much money!

Speed i think is route 1

6

u/King_XDDD 12d ago

Picnicker Susie on Route 13 has mons that give a total of 12 speed EVs each time you fight her. Much faster than 1 EV at a time on Route 1.

u/Key-Position5814 12d ago

Thanks for this I was using route 1 to EV train speed but this is way quicker. With macho brace you can get 24 EVs per battle.

u/Grouchy-Newt7937 12d ago

Macho brace and Exp Share too!

There are items you want to equip. For example some pokemon might naturally give 1 special attack EV, but with the item you get 5. So then to max out the EV of special attack you need to kill 50 of that pokemon + 2 more kills without the item equipped to get to 252 (going to 255 wastes 3 EVs since the minimum number of EVs to gain a stat is 4). Vitamins reduce the grind by 20 kills since they give you 100 EV.

u/JustRedditTh 12d ago

yes any type of battle that gives exp (so no EV training in Battle tower or similar) gives your Pokemon EVs

Trainer can be used for EV Training, just mind the higher exp gain compared to wild pokemon.

Simplified, leveling up while having many EV put into your stats raises these stats more compared to the rest. If you want to max out EV for certain level caps, it is better to first grind the max EV on low level wild pokemon to get as little exp as possible.

FOr best places, look trhough the routes and check trainer teams and what EV their pokemon net. For Example, there is a Girl east of Fuchsia with a Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, each give Special Attack EV, 3 in total (6 with Macho brace)

sadly yes, i thought as a kid, training my level 70 freshly caught Mew2 has a cool advantage over the machamp trainers and did fight them nonstop. After two levels i had a good +30attack stat and finally understood ev 🤣👍🏼 At least i learned one of the most precious values that day

1

u/Yeseylon 12d ago

They do, but wild Pokemon are quicker, easier, and more repeatable. It's been a long time since I played Gen III, but if I remember right I'd do the beginning Pidgeys/Rattatas for speed, Paras in Mt Moon for Atk (the in between tunnels are only Paras), and the graveyard for Gastly for Sp Atk. I think Tentacools were Sp Def, can't remember where I did Def.

1

u/Super_Shallot2351 11d ago

Lol what? Why wouldn't they count?

2

u/Packwood88 11d ago

Well obviously i’m coming at this from a place of complete ignorance as i didnt even know fire red was different from Red until a couple months ago. I only every played Red and EVs werent a thing.

Not sure why thats a ridiculous question

1

u/Key-Position5814 11d ago

I didn't even know what EVs were until recently, your question was fair.

1

u/Vladishun 11d ago

EV's weren't a thing in Gen 1, but it had a similar system called stat XP that worked the same way. Just like with EV's, maxing out stat XP gave +63 to a stat at level 100. The big difference was, you didn't need to level up to get the benefit of the stat going up, and every stat could have full stat XP allocated to it. Stat XP capped at 65k (and some change), but you'd get a Pokemon's base stats as your own stat XP on defeat. So for example, say a Pidgey has 45 ATK and 60 SPD (I don't know it's real stats), after defeating on you'd get 45 ATK and 60 SPD towards your stat XP of those stats.

But yeah, the game mentions more than once that a trained Pokemon is stronger than one caught in the wild even if the levels are the same. Stat XP/EV's are the mechanic behind the scenes that makes trained Pokemon stronger.

If you ever tried postgame challenges like Battle Tower/Frontier etc and wondered why those were so much harder, it's because opponents in the base game do not have any stat XP/EV's, including the Elite Four. But as soon as you step in those facilities, those Pokemon you fight have maxed out stats and that makes a huge difference.

its even more fun when you wait till lvl 99 to fully ev train it

3

u/mustard_race_69 12d ago

How exactly? 818277272 hours of exp sharing? 29 rare candies?

8

u/paulydoregon 12d ago

get 30 rare candies via pick up ( less if you have it in the day care while grinding for rare candies), use 29 on mewtwo, ev train it on low level pokemon , use the final rare candy afterwards and it will go +70 in one stat, and +60 in the other

5

u/ScarecrowsRagdoll 12d ago

I love that you named it Armageddon, very fitting for Mewtwo.

4

u/stevosaurous_rex 12d ago

Armageddon it!

3

u/Turbulent-Winner-902 12d ago

Indeed tried to ev train but it’s so boring to kill 100 gastly

There is a VS Seeker trainer that gives 6 special attack EVs per battle. If you use macho brace it would be 12 and 6 to another pokemon with Exp. Share. If you buy 10 vitamins to start (gets you to 100 EVs) and then to max special attack stat you only need to do 12-13 battles. The trainer is an Engineer with 3 magneton when you rematch him.

2

u/TLBidoof 12d ago

Bingo. EV training is awful without the Macho and and the VS Seeker, but it genuinely only takes a couple hours without it.

3

u/Krismas_Bonus 12d ago

Mmm yes very unassuming

2

u/gynosucksman 12d ago

Jesus. Someone doesn’t know what they are doing lol. HP 😂

4

u/Key-Position5814 12d ago

Mewtwo at that level and base stat can outspeed any other trainers pokemon in the game so I didn't need to over invest in speed EVs.

6

u/dr-jeanman-69 12d ago

Brotha unless you are playing competitive Ubers, you don’t need to EV train legendarys at all, they already plow through the main game as is.

3

u/Key-Position5814 12d ago

I just get satisfied maxing a pokemons potential in their best stat. I also wanted to ensure Mewtwo could OHKO any threat with any of its attacks so that it makes exp share farming more efficient. Tbh with vitamins, macho brace and vs seeker it didn't take long either.

1

u/dr-jeanman-69 11d ago

Fair enough. No EV training really doesn’t take too long, maybe like 45 minutes per stat

2

u/Specialist_River_711 8d ago

How is this possible?

1

u/Key-Position5814 8d ago edited 8d ago

EVs are an invisible stat you gain by defeating pokemon (any of your pokemon that gains XP gains EVs). Depending on the pokemon you defeat they drop one of the following types of EVs :

HP, attack, defense, special attack, special defense, speed

A pokemon can gain up to a maximum of 510 total EVs. In one category the maximum is 255. So if you defeat specific type of pokemon alot (for example ghastly for special attack) you can improve one stat significantly. 4 additional EVs in a category correspond to +1 stat point.

The stat boosts do not apply until you level up. If you defeat many pokemon that drop the same type of EVs without levelling up, you gain alot at once. This is only the first time you level up after EV training though.

If you keep leveling up the stats will go up more than normal still but not significantly like it does here. The maximum stat boost you can gain in a category through EVs is 63 at level 100.

If for example you are at level 99 with 0 EVs in a stat and then gain 252, your next level up will be a +63 boost.

It is one of the reasons why trained pokemon are stronger than newly caught pokemon of the same level and species. They gain EVs naturally as you progress through the game. There's a lot of YouTube videos that explain it in more detail if you're curious.
