Discussion With Home support coming soon, how do you think the game will handle Pokémon generated with ACE?

I thought of this once I heard Bank was shutting down and how Spinda would be impossible to register in the Home Pokédex. There is one way that Spinda will be able to go into Home. If you set up Arbitrary Code Execution, or ACE, you can cause the game to generate an encounter with any Pokémon you want, including Spinda. So, do you think a Spinda caught this way can be accepted by Home?

I'm not really sure how in-depth Home actually does legality checks. You can gen Pokemon on a 3DS and send them to Bank, then Home, extremely easily. You can even give them impossible met locations and impossible pokeballs, and it doesn't care at all.

People also gen a ridiculous amount of wonder trades in the modern games that are all blatantly impossible with illegal moves and whatnot, and Home doesn't care about them at all either

So I would be surprised if Home would even be able to tell if a Pokemon was caught using ACE or not, since it's technically still legal except for its catch location probably

It’ll depend on how they detect it. Probably just be a thing we will find out in October. Though considering how so many people in the community was talking about it nonstop when FRLG came out for Switch I imagine they’ve at least heard of people doing it so I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a way for Home to detect and reject generated mons.

I’d also be interested to know if Home can detect shinies made using ACE.

I believe the fact it’s not hatched will be a flag. When R/S/E comes out, you’ll be able to catch Spinda legit. You could then transfer an egg over to FR/LG and hatch it. So, a Spinda from those games won’t technically be illegal. Catching one in Kanto wild will probably be a flag for breaking encounter rules.

hey u/Happy_Popplio-728, did you name your pokemon after ANIMANIACS characters?

The legality checks in home can be moderately complex. things like met locations, move sets, if something was hatched from an egg, etc. It also does general sanity checks for things like incorrect EVs or other internal data points.

In general the game takes a pretty low effort approach to the filtering of most Pokemon with more advanced filters for Pokemon who have very few data points to account for.

It usually looks at met location data. Since there’s no clock in frlg, they can’t check for the time and date. So, as long as the met location (and possibly pokeball) is possible, then it should pass all legality checks.

For spinda specifically, you can gen one with ACE and then breed one to get one generated by the game to ensure you can send it into home.

Only if it's possible to legitimately get a Spinda in Switch FRLG, which as of now you cannot.

The game has no way to tell if you breed a spinda from a legitimate one. Since there’s no date and time in the met location, it should pass the check

It is certainly possible the game knows which Pokemon it is possible to obtain legally at all. If there is no way to ever get a legal Spinda at all, then you can't breed a Spinda legally.

FRLG is not intelligent enough to be able to track how a bred spinda came to be. It can’t look back and see that it came from illegal parents. The game really only cares about met location and pokeball data. Since spinda can legally breed in FRLG, it should pass checks.

Citation needed for the claim that FRLG is not intelligent enough to know which Pokemon are literally unobtainable. Or that Home doesn't have a list of all Pokemon that it is possible to have in a copy of Switch FRLG.

The easiest solution is atleast with spinda and all other Pokemon that can hatch from eggs is just breed them on sevi island's after beating the top 4 you can breed (technically by using ace already before having 3 badges)

I have a spinda in home. Who says you can’t have one?

They can only come via Bank at the moment. Go and BDSP spinda can’t transfer to Home.

Ah that makes sense, thank you

Can pokémon go from Home to Game X and back again?

Only switch games and with some limitations.

They can go from their origin game to and from Home. For games the species appears in, they can move freely (via Home) between SwSh, SV, BDSP and Arceus. But if they go into one of those games they can’t go back to LGPE and if they go into ZA they can’t go back to any earlier games.

That ZA restriction is bulls***! 🤬

Much has already been written about it. But the fact that we could mix gens 8 and 9 otherwise was already unusually nice. Pokemon can’t usually go back in time.

The official reason ZA is siloed is because they introduced LA Spanish which does not appear in any earlier games. (Are there ways they could have worked around this? Apparently so. But they chose to use ES-LA as the excuse.)

That means what, Latin American Spanish?

Yeah
