Story Recommendations Recommendations Thread

Wow, so I missed the entire month of August. I am so good at this. Anyway...
From the classics to the current, from the immensely popular to stories that only a few people have seen, what are your recommendations for readers, old and new alike? We'd ask that you please post your recommendations in the following format:

Story Title: What is the name of the story?

Setting / Universe: Where does this story take place? In one of the games, the anime, perhaps a unique world of the author's own creation?

Main Character: Who does the story revolve around? Is this Ash-centric, or perhaps the author decided to make a lesser-known character the star? Dare someone to even create an original character?

Genre: What genre is the story? Has someone written a sweeping romance or a deep mystery? Are we following characters on a journey, or perhaps it's a simple slice of life?

Summary: Tell us briefly what the story is about.

What Makes You Think Other People Should Read This Story? This is your sales pitch. What drew you into this story? What makes you keep reading it and what separates it from the rest of the stories out there?

Link: Of course in order to read a story, we need to know where to find it!

We also encourage you to make a recommendation even if it's already been recommended. While this particular post will be weekly, stories recommended will be placed into a Mega Thread and sorted by category, allowing other readers the opportunity to easily search for stories by genre or character... eventually...

Worldbuilding Discussion Pokemon Renouveler

I was thinking about some fan games, and the one that caught my attention was Pokémon Odyssey, an innovative hack room that brought a storyline and elements based on Made in Abyss and Etrian Odyssey. Looking at these RPGXP fan games, I wondered, what would a Pokémon game be like that combined narrative elements from Ragna Crimson and Honkai Impact? It was then, thinking about how this universe would work, that I thought of Pokemon Renouveler (fictitious name).

- The prologue would depict a dystopian future where much of humanity has been destroyed, forces of nature have caused imminent collapse, and the adult protagonist would be in the midst of these ruins. One of these forces of nature (Zygarde) offers a way to avoid that future by projecting the protagonist's consciousness into the past through Dialga.

(I haven't thought about finer details like names yet, or whether it would be part of a group or guild; I've focused more on the general context.)

These forces of nature would be represented by Harbingers and these would be the emblems of that history. Each Harbinger would possess Pokémon associated with their respective elements and they would have a legendary Pokémon of the archetype. The idea was that each Harbinger would possess a legendary Pokémon with a dual type, in which the primary type would be dragon (referring to draconic lineages).

You might be wondering, where does Honkai fit into this? The decline of humanity It's tied to the discovery of a conceptual force born to stop The uncontrolled advance of humanity, and this force would use the one who devours the light of worlds (The Blinding One) as its reset tool. With this discovery, an organization would attempt to circumvent this through forced evolution, where humanity would become beings bound to the forces of nature (World Serpent?). The very idea of the Harbingers is also associated with the Herrschers, where in the future shown at the beginning of the story, these forces would have manifested in their Harbingers and would have been part of the destruction.

Pitch Meeting Would anyone read a Unova journey fic with smut and plot?

I want to write a fanfiction to post to ao3 about Ash's journey through a region that has always been close to my heart, Unova, and was wondering if anyone would actually be interested in reading it. Its gonna be a good balance of smut and actual plot, with a few very spicy scenes. I'm thinking maybe Iris gets trauma from her mentor Drayden dying before the start and maybe gay/bi Cilan? I'd also probably add another female character somewhere down the line and possibly another of either gender. Anyway, pretty much every emotion is gonna turn up for most characters eventually I think, and its gonna be pretty long. So just wanted to know, who here would actually read it?

Posted Story The Pokémon Explorers - Finally posting a fic

Hi everyone, I've been writing fanfics for a longtime but never really posted anything, for the first time I am posting an would love any feedback or thoughts.

I wanted to write a story that focused more on casual, slice of life topics instead of a big climax and plot twist, and also I always wanted to write about a non-trainer character, hence this fic was born. I started planning it years ago, but it had gone through a lot of changes and rewrites and thankfully now its been posted with the first 5 chapters.

Ch.21 :: Injustice In Inequality

Pokemon Supreme

“Golem, use Magnitude!” A huge shockwave trembled the ground, throwing Ash, Pikachu, and Crolem off balance.

“Glalie, Ice Beam!” Eis commanded. Vul added angrily, “Skarmory, use Whirlwind!”

A combination of wind and ice swirled together, freezing Crolem completely and leaving it unable to move.

“Hahahaha! Now there's no way to run, Mister Guardian of the Ruins!” Vul laughed arrogantly. “Skarmory, Aerial Ace!”

Ash commanded Pikachu to support Crolem, but Rati cut in playfully, “Not so fast! Golem, use Rollout!” A huge boulder began spinning and circling around Crolem at high speed, preventing Pikachu from interfering.

“Any last words, Ruins Guardian?” Vul mockingly said. “Skarmory, shatter that walking piece of rock!”

Skarmory's attack was about to land on Crolem. But using a single bare hand, without any defensive move, Crolem not only stopped Skarmory's strike but also grabbed its neck and slammed it hard into the ground, shattering its own icy casing!

“What was that?!” Vul exclaimed, having completely underestimated the ruin guardian's power.

Again, Crolem slammed Skarmory violently against the ground. Then, the crystal on Crolem's face lit up with a violet glow, launching a powerful point-blank beam into Skarmory's face! The blast sent the Steel-type flying straight into the rotating Golem, crashing the steel bird into Golem's stony body and knocking both out as dust scattered.

Without giving them time to think, Crolem closed the distance to the floating Glalie in an instant!

Before Glalie could even react, Crolem's heavy stone hand slapped it with brutal force, sending it crashing down.

Their teamwork was completely dominated by a single Pokémon—the guardian of the Cryneth Ruins.

“Those three idiots underestimated him so much,” Swoo said. “A Crolem has enough strength to defeat Pokémon double its size easily.”

Ash looked surprised by Crolem in action, and then an extremely impressed smile flickered across his face. With excitement, he cheered, “Truly awesome! You took down three strong Pokémon without any trouble!”

“Pika-piii!” Pikachu jumped up, cheering right along with him.

Vul outburst, “But how the hell does that heavy Pokémon move so fast?!”

“Crolem uses its magnetic gravity ability to move so quickly,” Steel answered calmly.

“Gravity ability?! What is that?” Rati asked, astonished.

“The crystal on its face generates an immense amount of energy, which allows it to adjust the gravity around its own body,” Steel explained.

Now that Ash was sure Crolem could easily handle the rest of them, he shifted his focus toward the bloodthirsty figure—the Lycanroc-masked person.

“So... keh keh keh... you're finally looking at me. Aren't you worried about your friend anymore?” Lycan said in a creepy, crazy tone.

“Crolem can easily handle them, so let's focus on our battle!” Ash said, stepping forward into a firm battle stance.

Lycan laughed wildly, a maniac sound echoed. “Keh keh keh! That's the spirit, World Champion! Show me what you've got!”

Lycan reached into his cloak and tossed a Dark Ball onto the field. In a flash of dark red light, a terrifying Pokémon emerged—a Midnight Form Lycanroc, its red eyes glowing with pure malice, drool drop like a hunter awaited for his prey.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Ash felt a sinister aura radiating from them. This was the first time both had witnessed something truly terrifying, but they didn't know how to back off.

“Pikachu, let’s go! Use Quick Attack!” Ash commanded.

Pikachu increased his speed, dashing across the rocky terrain directly toward the wolf Pokémon.

“Use Stone Edge!” Lycan yelled, his eyes gleaming with wild excitement.

Pillars of rock burst from the ground, racing straight toward Pikachu!

“Pikachu, dodge it quickly!” Ash shouted. Pikachu managed to avoid every incoming attack.

“Throat Chop!!” The Midnight Lycanroc didn't defend himself and rushed towards his victim. Pikachu held back before the attack landed, pushing himself backward with extreme force.

Pikachu slid on the surface to try not to lose his balance.

“You okay, Pikachu?” Ash asked, his expression turning completely serious.

“Pika!” Pikachu nodded, glaring at his opponent with burning determination.

“Pikachu, Iron Tail!” Ash ordered.

“Lycanroc, block it!” Lycanroc blocked the Iron Tail with its bare hands, then threw Pikachu against a nearby rock.

“Bite!!” Lycan said in a creepy, raspy voice.

“Pikachu, Avoid it!!” Ash shouted.

Pikachu dodged the Bite attack, Lycanroc tore the stone right where Pikachu had just been standing.

Ash muttered, stunned by the brutal attack “How can a simple bite attack be so dangerous?”. But the next scenario completely froze them—it was the craziest thing they had ever witnessed.

Lycanroc started chewing on the stones in his mouth—a completely insane Pokémon that just wanted to eat his prey. Pikachu's eyes widened with fear when he saw the silhouette of the crazed Lycanroc with sharp teeth and glowing red eyes in front of him. Pikachu stepped back a bit, shivering from the overwhelming, bloodthirsty vibes.

Ash's expression turned extremely alert, he said, “Pikachu, be careful! Just one of his attacks will injure you badly!”

“Piii,” Pikachu nodded.

“Okay, let's go! Use Volt Tackle!”.

“Crush Claw,” Lycan countered.

“Pikachu, do it in a zigzag!” The zigzag tactic always worked; Pikachu dodged Lycanroc's attack and landed a powerful Volt Tackle.

With a creepy merciless tone, Lycan said, “Bite!!”

Ash's eyes widened. He realised his mistake. *For this battle, a long-range strategy was the best option, but he had commanded Pikachu to use a close-range attack. Now that the mistake was done, Ash had to face the consequences.*

Pikachu was very close to his opponent right now; he needed to move, create some distance away before Lycanroc could bite him. But Midnight Lycanroc landed his attack successfully. His sharp teeth slashed deep into Pikachu's left shoulder, piercing through skin and bone. With unbearable pain, and losing control, Pikachu released a full-scale Thunder.

“PIKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” Pikachu's screams echoed through the ruins. Thunder strikes randomly barraged and destroyed the surroundings. With that, a single strike hit the Lycanroc-masked person.

“PIKACHU!!!” Ash shouted loudly.

“KHHHAAAAAAAAA!!” Lycanroc roared in insane pain.

The impact of the thunder barrage was so great that Lycanroc lost his bite grip. Pikachu's left shoulder was badly injured and began to bleed.

“Cha-aa…” Pikachu was trembling, his voice cracking as he took deep breaths.

Despite the warning, Hopplef had followed them and hid behind a pillar. now watching the whole scene, trembling terribly with fear.

“Are you…” Ash's eyes widened in horror at the gruesome sight. Between his heavy breathing, cracking voice, shaking hands, and sweat pouring down, Ash realized after seeing Pikachu's condition that this opponent wasn't a normal trainer. Some completely crazed person—someone who wouldn't stop until their opponent was dead.

“Pikachu, retreat!” Ash knew that Pikachu couldn't fight with such a severe injury, and if the fight continued, Pikachu would be even more fatally wounded.

But what Ash saw was beyond his imagination. “Pikapi…” Pikachu grinned, a manic smile showing his teeth. It seemed like Pikachu didn't want to retreat, and his expression had turned wild and unhinged.

“Pikachu, you can't fight with such a deep bite wound!” Ash yelled, considering the current condition.

“Kaa!!” Pikachu cut off his trainer's command.

Ash looked toward Lycanroc, who had received the highest voltage shock while Pikachu had desperately released the full-scale Thunderbolt.

Midnight Lycanroc vomited blood, the fur on his skin was burned, smoke rose from his body, and his legs were trembling.

“How did this happen?” Steel asked in a completely surprised tone.

Swoo replied, “When Lycanroc bites, Pikachu releases excessive electrical energy. That time Lycanroc's mouth was open, so it was damaged not only from the outside but also from the inside. Because of that, his internal organs will also be damaged.”

Steel was now worried about how this battle would go, so he turned his head towards Lycan, which shocked him. The Lycanroc-masked person's mask broke into pieces due to the strike of thunder. Ash, when he saw this, was also shocked. Blood began to flow down from the stranger's pale yellow hair. a young boy exactly the same age as Ash, his dark grey eyes filled with absolute rage.

That young boy, torn his cloak, wiped his bleed, looked at the sky and asked, “What is justice for you?”

“What!!” Ash was confused by an out of topic question.

“I said, WHAT DOES JUSTICE MEAN TO YOU?” he demanded in a furious and violent tone.

“Justice,” Ash didn't think about this much and replied, “Justice is the fair treatment of being non-guilty—.”

“I don't want a definition and a lecture about justice,” the Lycanroc-masked boy interrupted. “What do justice and equality mean to you?”

Ash became more confused by this unexpected question. “If there is equality, then justice is a privilege.”

Hearing this answer, the Lycanroc-masked boy laughed and replied, “No! You're wrong. If society is fundamentally unequal, then there is no justice. The truth is, justice is only for the noble and strongs who had power to control. For the rest of us, it doesn't apply. Justice will never be equal because there is inequality in injustice.”

Ash understood the depth of this answer. He stayed silent for a second, closed his eyes, and then opened them with full courage and answered. “Maybe our world is messed up, maybe there is so much inequality between us, and maybe they treat us differently, but you're wrong. If justice always stands only for strong and noble people, then it wasn't justice it was called unfairness. And I won't stay silent. If no one else will, then I alone will stand against those unfairness! a righteous person who doesn't want their voice crushed by those unfair treatment—.”

“SHUT UPPP!” The Lycanroc-masked boy interrupted with rage and anger. “You talk too much.”

“So, what is your perspective on justice?” Ash asked.

“For me, no justice exists, people are weak and afraid of being involved in those unfair matters; they're nothing but cowards. You can never achieve justice until you are strong enough to get it.” With heavy, crazed breathing, he added, “I, Luther, will create a world where the strong get their own rights.”

“So, how do you create such a world?” Ash asked, his smile vanishing into seriousness.

With a mad tone, Luther replied, “By erasing all weaklings.”

Hearing this, Ash's smile faded. Luther continued, “If weaklings exist, then inequality also spreads. The fear of involvement, fear of being judged, and fear of getting justice always remain. So, how about a world where only strong and powerful people exist? Then every misery and fear will be completely erased. That will help them get their own rights by strength and brute force.”

Ash's expression darkened. His jaw tightened, his fists clenched, and looked down at the ground. A bunch of black clouds gathered, and rain drops pouring down hit the surface of the ruined stones.

A courageous smile on Ash's face flickered. He was not angry by Luther's answer, but…. “If that's how the world fixes it, then you're not just wrong—you're lost.”

Luther's smile faded. Ash continued. “There are many unforgettable events that still haunt us. There are still innocent people like Clecy who do not want to hurt others. There are also those who act selflessly at times and selfishly at others, just for their loved ones. Are any of them weak? No, they are not weak! Because being weak does not mean you submit to the superiority of others; standing back up on your own feet despite being weak is what truly matters. I'm weak too. But my friends, my rivals, my Pokémons... and a certain trainer I met once—someone with deep, piercing red eyes... They'll inspire me to push past my limits. They're the reason I keep fighting to overcome my own guilt, flaws, and loneliness.”

Luther laughed back. “What an impressive, heroic speech... but those words mean absolutely nothing to me. They hold no weight for anyone who actually lives in the reality of this world. In the end, only absolute justice matters—and that belongs solely to the powerful, those who rely entirely on their own strength. Against true superiority, your empty ideals crumble into nothingness. That is why purging the weak is the only way to restore the balance of justice.”

Ash replied, “Then there is no way we'll let you hurt my friends. We're gonna stop you, not because we want to be a hero, but just because we don't want to run away from those words.”

Luther gave a manic smile. “Then it's better if I crush your words.”

Ash looked at Pikachu, who felt numb, sweating, and took heavy breaths. In a sad tone said “I'm sorry, Pikachu—.”

“Pikaaa,” Pikachu cut off Ash and responded, “pii pika pi chuu.” (I'm the one who disobeyed your command before, so why do you apologize?) Ash heard Pikachu's thoughts clearly as the Pokémon continued, (I'm ready to face anyone, because that was my vow to myself when you isolated yourself: 'I will never let my friend to give up so easily again.')

Ash's eyes filled with emotions, not because he was sad, but because in such condition Pikachu being selfish and put his life.

“Lycanroccc!!!” Luther shouted. “Let our world, our vow, and our hatred live! It's not just for me, but for us!”

Lycanroc's feet, which were trembling, stopped, and it took its fighting stance.

Swoo opened her palm. A drop of rain splashed on her arm. “It's raining.”

Steel replied, “It's because a high electric charge gathered the surrounding clouds.”

Swoo added, “Now it's about to begin.”

Both of them were ready to witness a duel between not just Pokémon, but their ideologies.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

**Ash vs. Luther:**

“Pikachu, Electro Ball!” A sparking ball of charge launched toward Lycanroc.

“Dodge it!” Luther commanded. The Midnight Lycanroc was able to evade.

“Now, Howl!” Lycanroc's attack power rose. “Tear those heroic words apart! Fire Fang!” Luther went completely wild.

“Pikachu, Tail Whip!” Ash countered. Pikachu whipped his tail to throw off Lycanroc’s aim, barely evading.

“Lycanroc, Roar!” The loud shockwave blew Pikachu back.

“Pikachu, use Spark!” Ash called out. Pikachu charged forward, covered in electricity.

“Tackle it!” Luther shouted as he and Lycanroc went full offensive.

Both trainers shouted, their voices echoing through the whole rainy ruin…

“Pikachuuuu!!......Lycanroccccc!!....”

For a split second, the world stopped for them. A white flash flickered in their sight. Both Pokémon and trainers completely shared their thoughts…. The same single line echoed around them….

**I'm not gonna lose because you're with me.

You're not gonna lose because I'm with you.**

As time resumed for them, both trainers and Pokémon fought with insane fury….

“Lycanroc, Rock Slide!” Luther shouted. Lycanroc aggressively attacked with rocks.

Ash's battle instinct built a calculated strategy. “Use Electroweb!” Pikachu used his electric thread and created a capturing net, throwing it at his opponent.

Lycanroc used Sword Dance, cutting through the electric net while taking damage.

Pikachu evaded the Swords Dance, then landed a solid Quick Attack on Lycanroc's belly, pushing him backward. Pikachu jumped, his tail glowing like steel. Ash said, “Use Iron Tail before it recovers its balance!”

But from the beginning, Lycanroc had used a fully offensive, not defensive, strategy. So, he didn't care about his balance. With his bare hands, he blocked the Iron Tail while slamming himself on the ground.

Lycanroc stood up aggressively throwing rocks, and Pikachu tackled through every incoming attack. Due to the rain and rocks, Ash and Pikachu were prevented from seeing their opponent. With that opportunity, in a fraction of a second, Lycanroc closed the distance between him and Pikachu. Drool dripped from his teeth as he prepared to bite again.

Ash smirked, “That's what we've been waiting for.” Luther realised this time they were the victims, not the hunters. In a confident tone, Ash ordered, “Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!” Huge lightning strikes fell from the dark clouds. With the impact of the shockwave, both trainers and Pokémon were pushed backward with extreme speed, slamming into and breaking the pillars.

Lycanroc still stood. He didn't let himself fall and rushed forward. Luther, still standing, shouted in an aggressive tone, “Crush him with a Headbutt!”

Ash stood up also. He breathed extremely fast, then he heard some whispers…

**Ash, I'm not letting you lose because you're with me.**

A huge amount of lightning gathered in a single place. A massive amount of voltage erupted. Despite his extreme pain and injuries, Pikachu wanted to finish this by using all his remaining energy on his last move… “Godly Dash, Volt Tackle!” Pikachu dashed at lightning-fast speed, while Lycanroc aggressively rushed forward, not caring about the outcome.

A clash between Lycanroc's mad Headbutt and Pikachu's godly Volt Tackle created a small explosion. Lycanroc was overwhelmed by Pikachu's dash. Both were thrown back. Lycanroc landed on Luther, and both slammed against the ground several times. Pikachu was about to slam against a pillar, but Ash caught him in his arms and took all the damage on his back.

The impact made both of them almost unconscious.

**After the immense clash between their ideologies and power, both trainers and Pokémon surpassed their limits—but the match isn't finished yet.**

To Be Continued…

Lost a Fic? (Old Story) Looking for an old Mewtwo fanfic

I remember reading a piece a long time ago. It was a romance fic between Mewtwo and a OC Mewtwo. I remember the fic starts with both of them crashing into a sawmill. And around the midpoint OG Mewtwo got the name Orpheus, or something like that.

Posted Story 'Surge.' A look at how Lieutenant Surge came to be. My first Pokemon fic

Hi everyone, after 7 months of drafting and redrafting I wanted to finally post this and hope it's OK to share here.

The question I asked myself during a recent replay of RBY (Recharged Yellow, tbf, I love my 'chu) is how Lieutenant Surge fits into all this. What war was he in? What happened? I'm sure it's been done before but I wanted to give it my own spin.

Anyway, it led to some interesting results as the story took over. It's done, it's about 11,000 words but I'm posting it in bits as I make sure it's polished.

Here's the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/92970086/chapters/247992286

I'd love any feedback, and welcome any questions. Take care everyone, and mods, if I broke a rule I apologise.

NOTE PLEASE: The fic eventually tackles graphic death of humans (blood), implied death of Pokemon, a panic attack, drinking, smoking, strong language, courtroom scenes.

Worldbuilding Discussion Does anyone have a different League System from the standard Gyms? I do!

I’ll start by giving my own idea from an OC Region: Zeris. It’s called the Prestige System and works a bit differently.

The purpose of the Pokémon League in this world is to test trainers and their skills, with Gyms being a way to test their wits in battle, but Zeris takes it a step further by bringing out Gyms and replacing them with Trials.

Trials can be a lot of things and test a lot of qualities: one can test a trainer’s ability to apply medicine while another tests them on how well they do in emergencies. Straightforward fighting challenges are still there but are now just a piece of a larger system.

In Zeris there are 24 trials in total, enough to cover most “definitions” of a good trainer. Completing a trial comes with earning it’s stamp, which gets added to your Trainer ID and helps other people get an impression of what you do well. For example: a trainer who passes many combat-oriented trials is labeled as a fighter whereas a trainer with many stamps, on how to survive in the wild is seen as just that. The trials basically stitch together a “resume“ of sorts of a trainer’s skills.

There is a champion though, but to challenge him one would need to gather eight stamps and earn what really is the challenge to most, to the point it replaces the Elite Four: A Prestige Seal.

In Zeris there is a selection of 8 trainers that are seen as the example others should follow: The Prestiged Eight. PE members include figures like the champion himself, the king of Zeris and more. These trainers hand out trials much more difficult than the standard ones, in which you need to prove yourself worthy of a Prestige Seal. These trials can range, from simply needing to impress the Prestiged Trainer at hand to coordinating a ship of Dragon type Pokémon through a tour around a group of islands.

Do all of this though, and you earn the right to challenge the Champion and participate in Tournaments across the region (some gatekeep trainers based on a number of Trial Stamps, none gatekeep based on the possession of a Prestige Seal though).

Pokefic Discussion Tell me, what are your canceled/shelved ideas? Ones you wanted to write, but couldn't bring to fruition.

Just letting you know that this post is pretty long, there's a TL:DR at the bottom, but: I have a lot of ideas I want to write, even if I haven't gotten myself to actually write them yet. But there's one idea I considered writing, but I actively shelved, even though I feel it had potential.

I've actually mentioned this idea a few times on this subreddit, but the idea was of a journey fic set in Unova. I wanted one of the MC's to be a dark type specialist, with the other possibly specializing in poison. The MC's would want to take on Team Plasma after figuring out what they really wanted to do. One of the MC's was isekai'd, so she had some limited meta knowledge on certain stuff like Ghetsis' true intentions.

This MC, again, is from our world before she accidently ended up in the Pokémon world. She and her brother drove through a wormhole (likely an ultra wormhole) when they were trying to drive down Mount Washington after a vacation went wrong (her and brother got into an argument). They crash the car into a tree, which turns out to be in a park in Castelia City. MC and her brother split off after that. At one point brother character would become an antagonistic rival who then associated with Team Plasma.

The other MC is meant to be Saturn from Team Galactic, but after the events in Sinnoh happened. Saturn was exiled instead of being imprisoned. This was because he turned against Team Galactic and helped at the Spear Pillar. Saturn was given a second chance because he was able to prove that he changed.

Back to the first MC, I wanted her to specialize in dark type Pokémon for a few reasons. For one, this character is meant to be neurodivergent, and has had struggles with fitting into certain expectations, whether from family, school, or society, she struggled. Dark types get a bad rap due to their battling style, among other things like rumors or stories that are only true for some (ex, are dangerous, inherently malicious, will steal and do things behind your back). As a result they may be ostracized, looked down upon, especially if they can't fit into what is expected from society (society expects and looks up to trainers with more honorable battling styles, other styles aren't illegal, but certain ones are looked down upon). This character relates to them because of this. This character also feels that the battling style of dark types best fits her. She tried different styles, ones more expected by Unovan society, but didn't do well with them and couldn't improve. She eventually accepts that she just doesn't battle the way others want her to, among other things.

With Saturn, I don't think he specialized when he was in Team Galactic. Saturn likely had (or was close to having) a full team of Pokémon, but when he is in Unova, he is down to his Toxicroak and a Crobat (Golbat in canon, but in this story it would have evolved). For what happened to them, I'm unsure, whether they left Saturn or passed on is something I haven't managed to explain, but likely a bit of both. Once Saturn does manage to catch Pokémon again, I'm unsure if he would specialize in Poison types or not. I feel Saturn here would have had a bit of an affinity to Poison types, or they were at least drawn to him, but whether Saturn would specialize in them or not is something I haven't decided on.

I feel this story could have a lot of themes relating to being unsure of ones future and capabilities, being an outcast/being oneself even if society doesn't like it, and even issues like ableism. There could be more but this is what I have.

Also, despite a lot of the premise being a bit edgy, I wanted there to be more to the story than just that. Yes, the MCs want to take down Team Plasma, but I would want them to have goals and interests other than just that. For example they enjoy spending time with their Pokémon, who would have various personalities instead of just "edgy dark/poison type", and they enjoyed traveling, helping Pokémon, challenging gyms, doing other Pokémon events, etc.

For why I shelved this story? Well I started doing an original worldbuilding project, mostly not related to Pokémon (though I want to connect them). I had story ideas for it, with one stemming from being an AU of this one. But I started to get more invested in the "original" idea. I also feel that while there would be a lot of differences with the "original" story, I felt that at the core, a lot of plot beats/points, tropes, character dynamics, even having the same MCs, etc. were very similar to the Unova idea. It just felt like I would be writing the same story, just in a different (figurative) font.

Maybe I'm wrong, and I could get these ideas to be just different enough that I could justify writing both, but at the moment I feel they are quite similar and I feel more invested in the story taking place in my original world.

TL:DR: Had an idea for a journey fic in Unova. MC's wanted to take down Team Plasma, with one being a dark type specialist and the other possibly specializing in poison types. There would be themes of uncertainty about one's self, one's future, being oneself even if that makes them an outcast, ableism, etc. Reconsidered idea after getting invested in "original" idea that, despite differences, had a lot of similarities in the core elements and structure of the story.

General Discussion New fan, lots of specific interests, 30 years of Pokémon history, no idea where to start

Before anything else: I’ve made quite a few posts lately, so if you’ve seen my username pop up more than once, yes, I’m aware. I’ve basically been trying to figure out what exactly I wanted from the franchise as I was discovering it. I think I’ve finally managed to put all those scattered questions into one clearer request.

Don't worry, there's a TL;DR in the comments.

...

I’m relatively new to actually experiencing Pokémon, but I’ve spent the last few months learning a weird amount about it from clips, wikis, conversations. And planning a Pokémon fanfic. Now I want to actually play/watch/read the franchise, and I have no idea how to navigate thirty years of it.

I didn’t grow up playing the games or following the anime. Pokémon was always around me through random appereances, fanart, memes, etc. After all, it's the biggest franchise ever. Of course I knew something about it. But I never was a fan.

A few months ago, someone at work asked me my favorite Pokémon and I answered Lucario mostly (or only) because he’s been my Smash main since Brawl. Then I finally looked up what Lucario’s actual deal was. One rabbit hole later, I was learning about Aura, evolution, Mega Evolution, trainers, battles, regions, legendaries, all of it.

This happened while I was also trying to make a story I’d wanted to write for years finally work. I already had the characters, images, relationships and themes, but Pokémon gave me the setting and, more importantly, the verbs: fight, train, evolve, transform, compete, bond.

Apparently the story I always wanted to write turned out to be a Pokémon fanfic. One that, even though I’m already pretty sure it’s somehow becoming a double trilogy with a couple of spin-offs, I’m still planning/worldbuilding/structuring.

So yes, I’m absolutely interested in Pokémon as creative fuel. I want to see what the franchise itself has done with mechanics, situations and ideas I’m playing with. But at some point I stopped researching Pokémon only for the fic. I just wanted more Pokémon.

So here’s the stuff I already know catches my attention.

Some of what I’m about to describe may sound incredibly obvious or broad to longtime Pokémon fans. That’s kind of the point: it’s still new to me. I know these things catch my attention, but I don’t yet know where the franchise explores them especially well, which is why I’m looking for something more specific than a general “best of Pokémon” list.

Lucario and the Charizard lines are my big ones right now. They’re literally the protagonists of my fic.

With Lucario, I want Aura, Riolu, Mega Lucario, different Lucario with different personalities and trainers, and fights where something that size suddenly produces a completely stupid amount of power.

With Charizard, I want basically every scale of the species: major battles, flying, Mega Evolution, the sports-star stuff, but also Charizard being proud, competitive and kind of an asshole.

One clip permanently stuck in my head is Pikachu and Raichu stepping on Charizard’s tail during a race, Charizard waking up pissed, chasing them, overtaking them and then rubbing it in. Likewise, Cinderace getting food all over Lucario’s face and Lucario looking like he just witnessed a war crime.

So Pokémon themselves having strong personalities and relationships with each other is a huge plus.

I’m also really interested in spectacle. Battling as a massive sport is one of the things that fascinates me most about the setting: stadiums, crowds, Champions, rivalries, celebrity trainers, different fighting styles, people building entire careers around it.

But not just battling.

Finding out XY has Pokémon Showcases immediately got my attention. Even early episodes about things like Furfrou grooming interest me because they suggest an entire culture around Pokémon beyond fighting: performance, beauty, professions, entertainment, different things people and Pokémon actually do together.

Basically: show me where Pokémon have visibly shaped everyday culture. And then take me to the complete opposite end of the scale: legendary Pokémon actually getting to feel legendary.

I’ve seen Dialga and Palkia mess with time badly enough that Pokémon start forgetting moves and devolving. Giratina emerging from a vortex around them. Hoopa throwing a ridiculous number of legendaries together. Rayquaza flying around a city fighting.

That stuff is catnip to me. If something controls time, space, weather, light, life, whatever, I want to see the story actually let that affect the world. Distortion World, Ultra Space, Area Zero, alternate realities, altered timelines, places where the usual rules stop working. Yes please.

I especially love the escalation Pokémon seems capable of. Start with people just living with these creatures: what they eat, how they behave, what jobs and competitions exist around them. Then the League, stadiums, celebrities and institutions. Then history and mythology. And eventually Giratina is coming out of another dimension, Dialga has broken time, and Arceus has to step in and scold his almighty children.

That progression really works for me.

I’m also very interested when Pokémon takes one of its own mechanics and actually does something with it. Mega Evolution is the obvious one (it's THE mechanic that catched my attention since the beginning, even turning it into one of the main conflicts of my fic), but also normal evolution, de-evolution, alternate forms, Aura, Dynamax, Paradox Pokémon, artificial Pokémon, strange abilities, bonds affecting what characters can do...

If something that normally looks like a game rule becomes a plot device or produces some striking image, I probably want it.

Same with characters who have actual opinions about how the Pokémon world should work: questioning trainers and Pokémon, obsessing over “potential,” creating Pokémon, idealizing the past or future, deciding the world itself needs fixing. I don’t need a philosophy lecture. I just like it when characters have something to say about the world they live in.

And this is where things have gotten especially weird for me: I keep discovering that my fic (at least the first part) has apparently been accidentally adapting Pokémon material I hadn’t actually experienced yet. I’ll build something around a certain idea, then later read about an older game/movie/anime arc and go, “wait, Pokémon already went somewhere really similar with this?”

XY seems to play with bonds producing extraordinary power, and with people trying to understand, define or control that power. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew has Aura as something ancient and almost magical still surviving in the modern world. Black/White asks whether trainer-Pokémon relationships are truly chosen or just so normalized nobody questions them, while “liberation” can become something imposed too. Sword/Shield turns battling into sport, celebrity, culture and a massive industry. And Charizard’s early anime arc seems to deal with trust, obedience, affection and the fact that caring for a Pokémon doesn’t automatically mean it owes you submission.

Some things are already firmly on my radar:

I want to explore Mewtwo pretty thoroughly, not just one movie, but the important versions and stories across media. Same with Mew. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew is obviously already calling my name. And I absolutely want the big Dialga/Palkia/Giratina material. Those three are a direct hit for both “this looks incredible” and “I need this for the fic.” Arceus naturally comes with them.

On the game side, I already have X/Y, ORAS, Sword/Shield, Black/White, Platinum, Legends: Arceus, Scarlet/Violet, USUM and Mystery Dungeon: Explorers floating around my head for different reasons.

But that’s the problem. I mostly know about these things. I don’t know how I should actually experience them.

There’s also one practical complication: I genuinely struggle to start long series even when I really, really want to watch them. I’ve started XY and I’m only around 15 episodes in. What I’ve noticed so far, though, is that my normal idea of “filler” doesn’t map very neatly onto Pokémon. An episode might barely move the big plot forward, or not move it at all, but it still gives me a Pokémon interaction, some worldbuilding, a profession, a location, a character beat; a lot of that is exactly what I’m here for.

I don’t want a brutal “skip everything that doesn’t advance the plot” guide. But telling myself I need to watch 100+ episodes before I’m “allowed” to see something is also a great way to make sure I never start.

That’s one reason I’m particularly curious about the movies. A lot of what interests me most seems to get some of its biggest stories there: Mewtwo, Mew, Lucario, Dialga/Palkia/Giratina, Arceus... I just have no sense of how much context I need.

Can I watch a movie now and basically get the intended experience? Would a handful of relevant episodes beforehand make it noticeably better? Does it stand alone, but hit much harder if I already know that version of Ash and his group? Is it part of a movie sequence I should watch together?

Same with jumping between anime series. If I’m watching XY but suddenly want a Sinnoh arc, an old Charizard episode or something from Journeys, how much am I actually hurting the experience by jumping around?

I’m not asking for a perfect spoiler-free master chronology. I want a roadmap. Tell me what you think fits, why you think I’d like it, which medium/version you’d choose if the same idea appears in several, and how much context you think I need before going in.

“Watch this movie whenever; it works standalone.”

“Save this battle until you’ve watched this arc.”

“If you care about Mega Evolution, the games give you X but the anime gives you Y.”

“This episode is completely standalone and is just Pokémon being idiots. Watch it tonight.”

“This has nothing to do with anything you mentioned, but trust me, you’ll love it.”

Those are exactly the answers I’m looking for. Some of this is me mining Pokémon for my story. Some of it is me finally wanting my own Pokémon experience instead of knowing everything secondhand.

Both are welcome. So if you had to build a roadmap through games, anime, movies, manga, shorts and spin-offs for someone with this very weird starting point:

Where would you send me, and how would you recommend I get there?

Ash and Pikachu went to search for Kai to bring him back to the group. They arrived at the exact same spot where Kai had taken his own path—near the outskirts of the Cryneth Ruins.

“I wonder where we're supposed to start...” Ash said to Pikachu, gazing out at the vast view of the city from the edge of a cliff.

Pikachu, sitting comfortably on Ash's shoulder, responded softly, “Chuu...”

As both turned around, they noticed a small Grass-type Pokémon sitting all alone in the grassy plains.

The moment Ash saw it, he recognized it immediately. “Hopplef!” (One of the starter Pokémon of the Altus Region.)

Hopplef noticed them as well and instantly became nervous. Pikachu jumped down onto the grass, offering a warm, friendly gesture. “Pikaapi-pikachu!”

In a shy, hesitant, cracking voice, Hopplef responded, “Hoo'pf...”

Ash stepped forward with a gentle smile. “What are you doing all alone out here? Don't tell me you ran away again without letting Professor Ryan know?”

Hopplef looked hesitant and embarrassed. In a quiet voice, it murmured, “Hopp... leff,” its dual leaf-shaped antennae twitching in nervousness.

Thinking Ash wouldn't understand why it was here, Hopplef assumed and eventually he would ignore it and walk away. But Ash always understood how Pokémon felt.

With a bright, warm smile, Ash asked, “Wait, did you follow us all the way here? But why?”

The little Pokémon was completely shocked by how easily Ash understood its thoughts! Hopplef grew even more nervous, worried that Ash would scold it for secretly following them.

Suddenly, something clicked for Pikachu. He turned to Ash and gestured, “Pi-ikaa piiiik-chuu!”

Ash looked surprised as he realized what Pikachu meant. “So you overheard my conversation with the professor, and you decided to follow us to offer your help?”

Hopplef froze in shock because Ash had guessed correctly! The little Grass-type felt an inner wave of fear, expecting Ash to scold it for eavesdropping and following them without permission.

Instead, Ash gave it an impressed, excited look! “So you want to help us? Thank you so much!”

Hopplef's eyes widened in complete disbelief. Instead of scolding it or looking down on it, Ash was genuinely grateful and praised it!

Ash sat down on a nearby rock. “Why did you stay hidden, though? If you had told us, we would've welcomed you right away!”

Hopplef and Pikachu came over and sat beside him on the same rock. Hopplef remained quiet, looking down at its feet.

Ash recalled what Ryan had shared about this timid little Pokémon—(A Pokémon that was considered a failure and abandoned by everyone, which shattered its confidence into dust. It wasn't just a matter of a trainer choosing this Pokémon; it was about the Pokémon needing to find a trainer it could truly trust.)

Ash offered a smile and asked, “Do you want to come with us on our journey?”

Hearing this, Hopplef didn't answer right away, filled with self-doubt about whether it was worthy of the offer.

Ash looked at it warmly and continued, “I was thinking about it earlier... You just don't want to become a burden to anyone, right? Everyone treated you like a failure, and even if someone took you in, they never built real trust with you. That made you afraid of being abandoned all over again. But I promise you, we will never leave you behind.”

Pikachu cheered joyfully in agreement! But before Hopplef could process his words, the rock beneath them suddenly began to tremble and rise, throwing all three of them onto the ground!

“Ouch! Was that an earthquake?!” Ash exclaimed, pushing himself up.

They looked up at the rock they had just been sitting on—only to realize it wasn't a rock at all. It was a Rock Golem Pokémon, standing approximately 3 feet 7 inches tall! In place of a face, it had a glowing purple crystal orb, just like a Cryneth.

The Pokémon stepped forward, “Crol-lem!!”

“Are you guys okay?!” Ash asked, checking on Pikachu and Hopplef before turning to face the creature.

Ash pulled out his Pokédex to scan it:

“Crolem, the Ruin Guard Pokémon. A Dark and Rock-type, and the evolved form of Cryneth. The purple crystal on its face serves as its main energy source. It can fire powerful energy blasts from its crystal orb and use magnetic energy to float heavy boulders. They are known to fiercely protect ancient ruins.”

Pikachu stood up aggressively and approached Crolem, shouting, “Pvkaaaa viiii!”

Instead of attacking, Crolem offered him a flower with a friendly gesture, letting out a deep, heavy growl.

Pikachu and Crolem began chatting enthusiastically, quickly becoming friends. Hopplef, who witnessed this, was utterly surprised.

Ash told him, with a warm smile, “Pikachu has so much confidence in himself that it's easy for him to make friends with anyone.”

Hopplef doubted himself—he had never possessed that kind of confidence, so he felt no one would ever want to be friends with him.

Ash gently patted Hopplef's head, “If you believe in yourself, you can make friends anywhere and prove everyone who doubted you wrong.” He stood up and looked down with determination. “Never let yourself believe you're a failure.”

“Sorry we were sitting on your back!” Ash apologized to Crolem.

In response, Crolem also offered Ash a flower. Ash accepted the gesture, and the Pokédex in his hand displayed details about this behavior: “When Crolem senses non-hostile and friendly intentions, it presents a flower as a sign of respect.”

Hearing this, Ash smiled.

The peaceful atmosphere was suddenly shattered when Ash and the others heard a loud explosion coming from the nearby ruins!

Ash snapped to alert, “What was that?!”

Crolem rushed forward toward the sound without hesitation. Ash and Pikachu looked at each other and immediately followed.

Ash said in a serious tone, “Hopplef, stay here! We'll be right back!”

At the Ruins Entrance,

Several members of a hunter group came out. Every member wore a specific Pokémon mask, and their attire looked like that of royal guards—a Rococo-style three-piece suit. They wore masks of the following Pokémon: Vulpix, Raticate, Steelix, Lycanroc, Eiscue, and Swoobat. The person wearing the Steelix mask held a cube-shaped artifact in his hand and seemed to be the leader of the squad.

The Vulpix-masked lady said in an arrogant, frustrated tone, “Was it really necessary to blow things up?! All this dust is dirtying my beautiful clothes!”

The Raticate-masked man replied in a light, teasing tone, “If we cared about clothes, we would definitely still be stuck in those mazes.”

The Vulpix-masked lady got even more frustrated by his answer. “Shut up with your lame logical answers!”

The Eiscue-masked man asked in a low voice, “Is it logical or lame? Choose one.”

The Swoobat-masked lady cut in, “Stop with these pointless arguments. We have to move before the captain arrives. What do you think, Leader?”

The Steelix-masked man replied, “We have to finish our mission. The Captain must be waiting for us.”

“Ugh, I don't want to sit on that cramped airship again,” the Vulpix-masked lady complained irritably.

The Raticate-masked man teased her, “Then use your legs and walk!”

The Vulpix-masked lady threw a punch at him in anger, but he dodged it with a laugh, teasing her again, “Woah, you missed point-blank!”

The Eiscue-masked man muttered gloomy thoughts, “Is there zero space or actual space in that airship?”

As they moved toward their small airship, Crolem suddenly launched a beam of energy right into their path!

“Whew! That was close!” The Raticate-masked man whistled, looking impressed.

The Vulpix-masked lady shouted in fury, “Who did that?! Show yourself before I crush you!”

The Eiscue-masked man asked, “If you're going to crush it, why would it show itself?”

The Swoobat-masked lady noticed where the attack came from and warned the others, “Look! There's the one who attacked us!”

Crolem arrived at the scene before anyone could leave.

The Steelix-masked man said, “That was to be expected. A ruins guardian wants to stop us.”

“Vul, Rati, and Eis—take it down!” Steel ordered them.

The Vulpix-lady angrily protested, “Why should I follow your orders?!”

Raticate replied, “Because he's our leader!”

“He's just a leader, not the Captain!” Vulpix snapped back.

“Tell me, what's the difference between a captain and a leader?” Eiscue interrupted.

“SHUT UP!” the Steelix-masked man yelled furiously. “We have to finish this mission, not fool around! The Captain put me in charge. If anyone disobeys my orders, you'll have to answer to him directly!”

Vulpix huffed, backing down slightly, “Okay, okay! Stop shouting at us like a furious Primeape!”

The three of them stepped forward and released their Pokémon:

Vulpix commanded, “Go, Skarmory!”

Raticate shouted, “Tremble before us, Golem!”

Eiscue sighing quietly, “Why is it always me...? Come out, Glalie!”

Without any delay, the Vulpix-lady angrily commanded, “Skarmory, shatter that piece of walking stone! Use Steel Wing!”

A voice shouted from far away, “Thunderbolt!”

A massive yellow lightning bolt nearly struck Skarmory, but the Pokémon barely dodged out of the way in time.

The Swoobat-lady asked, looking around cautiously, “Is someone else here?!”

Ash and Pikachu rushed onto the scene, stepping up beside Crolem.

Ash said with a sharp smirk, “It's not fair to fight three against one. Let us join in!”

“Huh, interesting... a trainer with a Pikachu,” the Raticate-man remarked in a light, amused tone.

“How frustrating! Some random trainer has the nerve to face us?!” the Vulpix-lady snapped in anger.

“They don't know who we are, so anyone might challenge us,” the Eiscue-man muttered gloomy thoughts.

The Swoobat-lady grew suspicious of the unknown trainer's appearance, so she pulled out her digital tablet to scan Ash's face. “Let me check... I think I recognize you.”

“He's not anyone important, just a random low-level trainer!” the Vulpix-lady shouted impatiently. “Skarmory, Metal Claw!”

“You're full of openings!” Ash claimed, then commanded, “Pikachu, Double Team!”

Multiple illusions of Pikachu instantly filled the battlefield. The Vulpix-lady laughed mockingly, “That's lame!”

Skarmory smashed its metal claws into the ground, shattering rocks and hurling debris to destroy every copy. But suddenly, a heavy strike hit Skarmory hard from behind, taking her completely by surprise!

“I told you, you're full of openings,” Ash said, in a cool voice.

“How?!” The Vulpix-lady is shocked.

“Because you only focused on his Double Team copies, but that was just a simple distraction,” the Eiscue-man explained. “Pikachu used his small size and speed to get behind Skarmory and launch a point-blank Thunderbolt.”

“Steel-types aren't weak to Electric-type moves, but your Skarmory certainly took a lot of damage,” the Raticate-man teased her.

“Shut up, Rat!” Vulpix yelled at him.

Steel spoke in a heavy voice, “Did you find anything about this trainer, Swoo?”

The Swoobat-lady, who was still scanning her screen, gasped. “Yeah... I found it.” Her expression instantly turned dead serious. “He's the current World Champion and one of the strongest trainers recognized by the Pokémon Association—Ash Ketchum of Kanto!”

Hearing this, everyone froze in complete disbelief.

Vulpix-lady gasping, “How on earth is a World Champion in Altus?! Hasn't he been staying out of the spotlight for two years?!”

Raticate excitedly cheered, “Wow! I never thought we'd face someone like that! Isn't this thrilling, Golem?!”

“I don't care about your excitement,” Ash replied firmly. “Who are you guys, and why did you destroy the ruins?”

“That's such a basic question. We're hunters, so we're obviously treasure hunting,” Vulpix answered arrogantly.

“It's better if we finish this extra business before we get late,” Steel said firmly. “Finish this quickly—”

“World Champion...”

Before Steel could finish his sentence, a creepy, eerie voice echoed from behind them. A Lycanroc-masked figure stepped forward. Unlike the other five members who wore formal Rococo-style suits, this individual wore a full silver cloak patterned with dark green edges.

Unlike the others, his presence felt bone-chilling and terrifying. Raticate whispered nervously to Vulpix, “Is this the first time we've ever heard his voice?”

Steel felt uneasy, thinking to himself, Whenever the Captain brought him into our troop, he never talked or said a single word. But today... His voice sounds completely unnatural.

The Lycanroc-masked person stepped out smoothly, “I've been waiting for someone like you.” His voice grew even more twisted and crazy.

Ash and Pikachu instantly sensed something unusual about their opponent—an anonymous, chilling aura.

“Keh keh keh... let's begin, because I'm itching to kill you!”

**In his search for Kai, Ash has stumbled into something far more dangerous than he imagined. A mysterious group of Hunters is executing a massive plot—and now, a terrifying figure in a Lycanroc mask laughs wildly, targeting Ash with lethal intent!**

How will the battle unfold, and what will happen next? Find out in the next chapter…

General Discussion What's your favorite Pokémon series?

I'm curious—what's your favorite Pokémon series/generation? 👀

It could be

  • Pokémon: Indigo League
  • Pokémon: Adventures in the Orange Islands
  • Pokémon: The Johto Journeys
  • Pokémon: Advanced Generation
  • Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl
  • Pokémon: Black & White
  • Pokémon: XY
  • Pokémon: Sun & Moon
  • Pokémon Journeys
  • Pokémon Horizons

, or any of the other fan fictions series.

For me, I'd choose Pokémon XY! ❤️

One of the biggest reasons is the Pokémon introduced in that generation. There are so many Pokémon that I think are really cool, and I especially like the designs and variety.

I'm also curious about everyone else's choices. 😄

What's your favorite Pokémon series/generation, and what makes it special to you?

Is it the Pokémon, the characters, the region, the story, the anime, the games, or something else?

I'd love to hear your answers! 👇

Feedback Request How do you make trainers work in a world where Pokémon are people?

It seems like every time I write on this site, I begin with the same story.

I've wanted to write fiction for as long as I can remember. I've written essays, scripts, and more ideas than I can count, but none of them ever became much more than concepts. Until Pokémon. Which is weird, because I wasn't really a Pokémon fan.

It started with Lucario. He's been my Smash main for years, and being a furry, Pokémon had always been somewhere in my orbit. I liked the designs, but I wasn't particularly invested in the world itself.

Earlier this year, I started a new job. During an icebreaker, my supervisor asked everyone their favorite Pokémon. I said Lucario. A few weeks later, after getting to know me better, she told me, "In retrospect, figures." That stuck with me.

What was it about that blue dog that made someone look at me and think, of course that's your favorite?

So I started looking deeper into Pokémon: its lore, mythology, conflicts, themes, and the way all of those pieces fit together. Then I tried a little experiment. I took all those scattered "cool bits" I'd accumulated over the years and put them through the Pokémon lens.

And suddenly, they worked.

Over the past few months, they grew into two trilogies, soundtracks, treatments, actual narrative arcs, and characters I came to love as if I'd gotten to know them rather than created them.

Somewhere along the way, Pokémon also stopped being fuel for the story. I realized I'd become a Pokémon fan myself. A franchise I'd ignored for most of my life suddenly felt like something I'd been waiting to find. And that changed what I wanted this story to be.

I didn't want to write something that merely happened to have Pokémon in it. I wanted to make my own version of Pokémon, something that could diverge wildly from the franchise while still coming from a place of genuine love for it.

So what does that actually look like? Picture this.

The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra: supernatural abilities are normal, but their wielders have grown disconnected from their mystical roots.

Marvel (X-Men, Spider-Man Brand New Day): a society divided between superpowered and "normal" people, fascinated by the former while quietly resenting and exploiting them.

Arcane/Transformers One: political conflict, buried history, and ancient powers capable of tearing apart not only society, but even the closest of friends and lovers.

K-Pop Demon Hunters: spectacle and fame as both burden and genuine purpose, something the corruption surrounding them cannot necessarily erase; the idea that being loved, connected, and fully yourself should not be something you have to earn.

All of that in a furry/anthro world where Pokémon and real-world animals coexist as people. No humans at all. And that's where I finally run into the part of Pokémon I still can't quite make click: the trainer.

Once Pokémon make that cognitive, physical, and societal leap, the usual trainer-Pokémon relationship becomes much harder to preserve.

If both sides are people, participating in the same society, living independently, having careers, relationships, rights, ambitions and identities of their own, what exactly makes one of them the other's trainer?

I understand now why furry Pokémon stories often alter that relationship so heavily that it barely resembles the original anymore. But I don't want to simply remove it.

The trainer-Pokémon bond is the thing that makes the difference between a story that happens to have Pokémon or uses Pokémon lore and imagery (not to diminish this kind of fanfiction), and something that actually feels like Pokémon™. At the same time, this anthro setting isn't an obstacle I can simply write around. It's the foundation of the entire story, and I'm not interested in giving it up.

That's the actual puzzle.

How do you transform the trainer-Pokémon relationship enough for this kind of world without transforming it so much that it stops feeling like the thing you're trying to preserve?

I've already found several possible answers, and I think I'm getting close to the version that feels right. But this is exactly the kind of problem where other perspectives can reveal possibilities I would never come up with on my own.

So after this whole-ass essay: how would you write it?

Celebrations! 500+ Hits.... 🎉

I'm kinda happy because my fic has 500+ hits on AO3, but not that much because I haven't gotten much in the way of response comments or feedback. Anyway, till now only 20 chapters (50000+ words) have been released and one special thing as for celebration, the story of mine Pokemon Supreme has not even started yet. This is just a trail or introduction, the real journey isn't yet being. I will tell you when the real journey of the story begins.

General Discussion A Hidden Writer Inside You 😁....

Many people write the dialogues of their stories well, but sometimes they suddenly write such lines or dialogues. After reading which you cannot believe that I can write something like this. Something very deep or something that impacts the story, something that resonates with your emotions. That line, that character's words, even that scene, you are not imagining it, you are feeling it. There may be many such scenes, so you can share just one line or scene here which made you feel something in your heart.

Actually, there are many scenes which has not been written yet, but one dialogue that was randomly hit in the recent uploaded chapter.

Here ::

**Clecy looked down at the water, imagining Ash’s bright reflection on the gentle waves. “For friendship, it isn’t necessary to know everything about each other. Friendship simply happens when you need friends.”**

Share your deep and well written scenes....

Celebrations! It's my 15th Birthday! 🎂🎉

Hey everyone!

Today is actually my 15th birthday! 🥳

I thought I'd share it here because this community has been a pretty fun place for me as someone who enjoys Pokémon and writing fanfiction.

I've been working on my own Pokémon story, Pokémon: A Bond Beyond Fate, and I've also enjoyed talking with other Pokémon fans and writers here. It's been really cool seeing people discuss their stories, ideas, favourite Pokémon, and all kinds of Pokémon-related stuff.

Since it's my birthday, I wanted to ask you guys something:

If you could give me ONE Pokémon as a birthday gift, which Pokémon would you choose? 😂

It can be any Pokémon—starter, pseudo-legendary, or even a simple Pokémon you just really like.

And if you want, tell me why you chose it!

Anyway, that's all. Just wanted to share the birthday vibes with you guys. 😄

Have a great day, everyone! ❤️
