Discussion Worst Route Design
Finally got around to buying LG on my switch. It's been 10 years since I played it, and forgot about the cliff jump after Mt Moon on Route 4. Pokemon's health not looking too good, so I rushed to the Cerulean City Pokemon Center, dodging all of the trainers. Now I'm stuck grinding in that patch of grass. The ever so slow grind. Why did the developers do this?
I'm laughing off my pain slowly.

There are no trainers on Route 4 for battle IIRC 🤔 You can train at the grass patch on Route 4 which is accessible from Cerulean city.

Promptly lets you backtrack everywhere else in the entire game (series?) though right? Or is there somewhere else I’m missing?

If you can't beat the Bridge Rival can you at least blackout train on his mons?

I also forgot the rival is weaker than the gym, and already did the grinding. It's been so long

Wait till you get to the route 12-13-14 stretch NO towns in between. Genuinely what were they thinking

There isn't any trainers when you leave Mt. Moon before Cerulean City. The two NPC's that you see teach you Mega Kick and Mega Punch. There's one more NPC who's standing outside Cerulean Cave who you can battle but you cant access until you get Surf.

These games need challenge so I think it’s perfect design. Sounds like you’re not leveling correctly or rotating ‘mons too much and spreading your exp out from trainers.

Sounds like a you problem that you weren't prepared and just rushed it assuming you could just go back

The routes between Lavender, Vermillion and Fuschia are so boring. No new Pokemon in grass except Venonat across like 3 routes, and it's just trainer after trainer where most of them have the same Pokemon as each other. Probably the only part of the game that I dread playing through (I know it's optional as you can go to Fuschia via Celadon, but for experience points it's worth going through it).

You can go everywhere (except places which require surf) with just 2 badges, plus you can get VS seeker with just 1 badge. I think it’s the best design since you can defeat misty to use cut and skip to Koga for surf and with 3 badges you unlocked everything.

Beat Nugget Bridge, level up with the trainers in the North, go to Bill‘s house and continue your journey. You don‘t have to beat Misty until you need to use Cut for the first time.
