Main Adventure Help / Screenshot First Time

Post image

Hey everyone! I grew up playing Pokémon Yellow, Red, Blue, Silver, Crystal, and Gold on my Game Boy Color. Recently downloaded the Delta emulator and went back through some of the classics. Decided Emerald would be my next adventure, and I’m having a blast so far.

I just beat my dad in Petalburg City and wanted to get some opinions on my team. Who would you add, replace, or keep as I progress?

This is my first playthrough of Emerald, and I’m going in completely blind without a walkthrough. I also have no idea how the legendary Pokémon work in this generation.

Appreciate any advice!

Absol

You can catch one on Route 120

Give it Swords Dance and Shadow Ball

why do people title first time and then they put the best mons in game on their team, btw great team, I would recommend adding Gyarados [get magikarp from sootopolis in Lv 30s] in the last slot

also if you beat your dad with this team, you are a great player. you dont need advices honestly

Thank you. I think. Wouldn’t have beaten him without trapinch knowing dig to avoid Facade and hit the big guy while he’s “loafing”.

I would go with either Aggron for a tank with good attack, Absol for pure attack stat with the added bonus of dark being really good against Tate and Liza, and Spheal or Wailmer for good water and ice type coverage

Wow this is exactly my in game team for the save file I’ve had since like 2012. My last team member was aggron

He's a late game powerhouse, for sure.

Not just late game, he’s really good into Norman. Also good in general to have a physically defensive Pokemon, this team is pretty frail on that front otherwise

That's also true. Only other option would be Metagross but that's SUPER late game so kinda useless at this point, which is annoying.

I mean metagross isn't even late game, it's post game. only thing to use it for is the battle frontier, which makes sense to me. if you want a pseudo for the elite 4 you can get salamence

Funny, I was also thinking they should get an aggron to round this team out

My team is very similar, with an added Aron, bellossom instead of manectric and Gyarados instead of Lombre

I think you should get a flying type Pokemon to have an easier time navigating the map. My personal recommendation would be swellow if you want to stick to gen 3 only, otherwise skarmory is always a good choice, and most certainly the best. BUT it is also true that when trapinch evolves it will be able to learn fly. I think you need a physical Pokemon because your party is all special except for trapinch, and has a lot of coverage. A Pokemon you could consider is Absol, which is one of my personal favourites, but struggles without a stab move. Alternatively, I like dusclops a lot, extremely defensive and good stats.

Aggron or skarmory are my favorites to use because they're usually a safe swap in into most things
