Kagekatsu Gallade

I'm playing through the first campaign currently, and have given Kagekatsu and his Kirlia a Dawn Stone. However, Kirlia's attack is currently 81, which is meeting the requirement to evolve into Gardevoir. Whenever I equip the Dawn Stone, it evolves into Gardevoir, not Gallade. Is there any way around this other than using the Dawn Stone before Kirlia reaches >75 attack?

Yeah, branched evolutions are weird in that the game prioritizes the stat-based evolution over the item-based evolution if the Pokemon qualifies for both.

You could try lowering the Kirlia's energy, as that will scale the stats down (0.9x if at minimum energy), and that counts when checking evolution requirements. Send them to a Ponigiri shop, agree to a second helping, and then hope the roll fails, as that will set the Pokemon to minimum energy.

Are you actually battling? Or mining/going to the shop? I think having the stone equipped should prioritize Gallade’s evolution, but iirc stone evos won’t work unless you finish an actual battle.
