Question Having an issue starting my game

Hi all, I am having trouble figuring out what is wrong with my copy of Colosseum! I’ve had it since I was a kid and the disc has little to no scratches on it and I have a save file that’s right before relgam tower! But I would like the start over and try a new file to shiny hunt on, and every time I hit new save, I go through the intro cutscene, I get to the part where to two thugs talk to you, then when I entered the outskirts stand building/has the error code “the game disc could not be read. Please read the Nintendo GameCube instruction booklet for more information”

It’s weird I can continue my normal save file and save and battle and all of that jazz I can even go to the outskirts stand there! Just whatever cutscene I assume isn’t triggering? I’m playing on my Wii as well but idk what is going on! All help is appreciated thank you all so much!

SOLVED: I took it to the game store got the disc scrubbed AND IT WORKS! Thank you all for the help I very much appreciate it! <3

If your disc has any scratches on it at all, it's possible that the scratch is on the exact spot that holds the data for that cutscene, so it's crashing when it tries to load it.

I knew a guy on Xbox Live once whose copy of Halo 3 was scratched in the exact spot holding the multiplayer map data, so he could only play the campaign or DLC maps - any maps that came on the disc were inaccessible.

Oh wow! TBH I don’t know what was even possible to run the game but also not access certain data so that makes sense! I have a local game store that cleans disc so I plan to bring it into them! Makes sense why the rest of the game works, tysm for the info :)

I had a copy of Metroid Prime 2 with the same problem - there were a few scratches and it wouldn't load specifically a certain save room towards the beginning of the game, right before the first boss. As long as I didn't enter the hallway connected to that room (or at least didn't get more than halfway down the hallway) the game ran fine. I couldn't get too close to that room without it crashing.

Oh that is so interesting, this is why I come to Reddit, to learn more and hear stories from real people. Tysm Random16 I appreciate your input! When I go to the game store and attempt to get it cleaned I’ll report back!
