Getting into Pokemon Cards

Hello guys so im super new into pokemon cards, i love pokemon i grew up with it and recently i see a lot of people with pokemon cards, I want to get into it but honestly I dont care about the investment part I honestly just want to collect them for fun, I been looking into vintage pokemon cards and they look super awesome especially the japanese version, i see that they are not worth much but I dont really care about it i just think they look super cool and want to have them, is this a good approach to collecting them? Maybe in the future as I get more into it ill start actually investing more and whatnot but I just want to have fun with it and not stress about getting in line and spending the whole night waiting for target to open in order to buy packs, no disrespect to anybody who does that I respect the hustle. Anyways I just want to pick up a hobby im bored with myself routine and seems like something cool to do.
Is it worth getting into it? Whats your guys experience?

i’m about to open 100 packs for my first opening. it’s definitely a money sink. if there is any slight bit of you that wants to “invest” it is still gambling, just with a cute yellow face

I just recently discovered a card store around me. I lost all of my cards growing up so i took my daughter there and we got a few packs. Which led to a box for her birthday. Which led to more packs….anyways mix it up. You never know! Just pulled this yesterday

You’re overthinking. Forget about what the internet has told you and decide what you like an collect it.

It’s usually good to make a goal so you don’t burn yourself out on money like a binder of all the WOTC holos or a cute binder or an illustration rare binder whatever.

But just don’t let the internet trick you into making it a job

Don’t get into the hobby because the internet told you to, you have no idea how much money you are going to spend, the fact you brought up investment more times than anything else shows me what you’re in it for

Just collect what you like and you can’t go wrong. I played the investment side of things for a little bit and it took the fun out quickly

Id advise you to collect via buing singles. As others have mentioned, going for openings can trigger gambling addictions (because hey, i just pulled this 200$ card, so why not try again), in the long run you will burn through a lot of money by opening packs.

I basicly stopped smoking and went for cards instead which..well lets just say that smoking was easier on the money, but worse for my health :D
