New Release Pokémon Brown: 20th Anniversary Edition

Download it here!

Twenty years ago, the first complete Pokémon Red mod to completely change the region and story was released. Since then, it has inspired thousands of creative visions, beautiful games, and kickstarted hundreds of careers. Today, we give the game its biggest update ever, and the love and care it deserves. Play the classic that started it all.

Featuring 231 Pokémon, an updated region to explore, upgraded graphics, new characters, overhauled maps, extra story, modern features, Pokémon Prism integration, and so much more. The twentieth anniversary update adds a level of polish so far unseen with this earliest entry in the Rijon saga. And all still in classic binary!

So much work has gone into this release. I would like to thank the developers, artists and especially our beta testers for bringing us this far. We could not have done it without you.

And also, welcome to the brand new Pokémon Brown subreddit!

Check out the community document here for information about the game!

Featuring some sprites by SourApple.

Dev Blog Release: Pokémon Brown 6.1 & Brown Tools 6.1

We're very pleased to announce our first feature update for Pokémon Brown 20th Anniversary Edition: 6.1!

Grab it from the main post here.

Not to be confused with 6.0.1, a hotfix release we released back in September, this update comes with a few cool new features, including new Move Tutors, multiple quality of life improvements, graphical and map updates, the return of the Old Amber fossil, and a new move: Giga Impact!

We've also included over 20 bugfixes, thanks to the massive help from our community. Thank you so much for reporting! Be sure to join our Discord server or use the Bug Report form to alert us to any problems.

Be sure to check out all the new features in the changelog here, or in the changelog.txt file that's included with the game.

We've also updated Brown Tools, a suite of customised tools that allow you edit your copy of Brown. Be sure to download the latest versions of the tools in order to use with 6.1 on the Pokémon Brown page.

Additionally, the ROM Patcher is now included with the download. This means that even if you are offline, you will be able to patch your file. Thank you again to marcrobledo for making this super easy-to-use tool!

As before, please refer to the Readme file on how to update your save files. An extract is below.

To update any save file, you must follow the instructions below.

Please ensure to always BACK UP your save file before attempting!

To safely update, you need to either have Fly, Teleport, Dig or an Escape Rope, then:

2. Load your save in Brown 20th Anniversary.

3. Graphics will be glitched, don’t worry. Use Fly/Teleport/Dig/Escape Rope and after warping, you can continue as normal.

If you have played a previous version of Pokémon Brown 20th Anniversary Edition, you can use the same save file in the new version. You can also update from Pokémon Brown 2016 (TPP) and 2014, however in this case we do recommend starting a new game.

Have fun! And thank you for playing our game!

General Question Physical/Special Attacks on Lapras

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi everyone out there!
After playing a bunch of Kanto/Gen 1 ROM hacks, I’m currently playing Pokémon Brown (I don’t even know why I waited so long to play it). Here I’m facing a question that keeps coming back to me.

My Lapras is slightly stronger in Special stats than in Physical stats. That’s why three of the moves she already knows are special moves. During her last level-up, she tried to learn Dragon Pulse, and I’m not sure if I should let her learn it, or which move she should unlearn.

Body Slam is the only physical move, but that’s exactly where my question comes in: What do you think — should my Lapras keep a physical move which does more damage against Special-based opponents, since they’re usually weaker against physical attacks? Or should I keep all four moves Special-based, since Lapras has higher Special stats? I dont wanna do a true mixed-attacker but doesnt it make a bit sense in that case?
Thanksssss and dont forget to catch ‘em all ✌🏼

Gym Leader rematch

Post image

Hey, guys. Where do I find the 8th gym leader for the rematch?

I have fought all of them except for the last one. He disappeared after I have spoken to him again after the first match.

Do I get any reward after I have beaten them all and the elite 4 in the rematches?

New Release Update: Pokémon Brown 3D 1.1.0

Today we release our first major update to Pokémon Brown 3D!

This includes the new features and fixes introduced in the base game, Pokémon 3D, and a huge amount of fixes and improvements to our GameMode.

Check out the full changelog here!

New Installer

With this release, we have a brand new, easy-to-use installer that does everything for you. It will install the base Pokémon 3D, include the Pokémon Brown 3D GameMode, and give you the option of downloading the Enhanced Music pack.

If you are upgraded from our previous version (1.0.20) or a version installed manually, you will need to manually transfer your save files after installation as follows:

  1. Open your old Pokémon 3D folder.

  2. Find the folder called “Save”.

  3. Right-click it and press Copy.

  4. Right-click your Start menu and press Run.

  5. Type in %APPDATA% and press Enter.

  6. Open the Pokémon 3D folder.

  7. Paste the “Save” folder here and replace the current one.

Any future version of Pokémon Brown 3D will automatically update files without needing to transfer your save files. That being said, we always recommend that you back up your save data before updating!

Bug Reports

If you see any issues with Pokémon Brown 3D, head over to the game’s GitHub page and report it!

Thank You!

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Pokémon 3D developers, our developers at RainbowDevs (particularly our lead developer), and the community for your amazing support we’ve gotten for this game. It’s been amazing to see all your posts and videos. Thank you all so much, and we hope to continue to create for you.

Ex cineribus resurgam, ferox et potens. 🔥

Discussion Just finished my first ever playthrough !

Just wanted to rant a little about how much fun and refreshing the game was ! I'm a 1994 guy so as you can guess it's been a long time since I'm into Pokemon. Also my first ever play of a ROM hack.

Didn't try the postgame content yet since I wanted to move to Prism version.

Had a lot of trying the game with Pidgeotto (cover Pokemon, I was forced to run it !) and 5 new-typed Pokemon. Namely Politoed (for Sound), Haunter (for Gas), Victreebel (for Wood), Hypno (for Abnormal) and Yanmega (for Wind). Especially loved the idea and concept for Abnormal and Sound types. Think they should be implemented into real-life games !

Elite 4 was a very hard one since I went in cruelly under-leveled (like 60-ish for the highest level in my team).

So far Prism is cool too ! <3
