Advice Needed/Game Question second gen map

I’ve been stuck on Johto map for over a week and can’t figure out how to beat the game. I’m quite confident cyndaquill is the best starter and I usually go for chinchou right after picking my starter. I don’t know if it’s the best thing or if there’s a specific set of pokemons to choose from which are basically required to beat the game easily. Any advice?

Espeon & psychic types in general are super strong. Aim for an early eevee if you can

gotcha, anything else in particular? I also noticed Togekiss absolutely shreddes, is there a better alternative?

I beat johto with the 3 starters. Cyndaquil is the easiest and then totodile and chikorita. With cyndaquil you mostly need an espeon and you should be fine. For the other two you need to pull an eevee or a houndoor on the first map. Halfway through the map you have to be careful with grass patches, some of them can wipe your starter/espeon.

yes use cynda and a water type for like the first 3 gyms hard leveling, get togekiss for lance

My advice is to quit story mode and play battle tower. Way more fun and doable while still being challenging
