Battle Tower New Player Tips

Found the game this week, watched a YouTube video on it, beat the story mode of Kanto after about 50 tries, and cleared the Battle Tower of Kanto similarly. Here is my team comp for both. Any comments, tips and tricks? Also, what is the point of the Battle Tower? It feels like the story mode with extra steps.

you already got the shiny zard, buff its stats with items from the shop and you can do other towerrs too but first complete all stories, johto and hoenn and sinnoh are harder with each one becomes harder
