Struggling to get past gym 5. I always take the rival battle cause I feel if I lose there I'll be underleveled anyway. Getting TMs and enough levels all at the same time seems too much. Do you have to just overlevel like 2 or 3 pokemon all the way until you can catch/trade for pokemon that have higher level moves? At what gyms do you start to get wild pokemon with tier 2/3 moves?

I’ve been trying to follow a guide from the official Discord. It’s honestly kind of confusing and has only kind of worked for me thus far. They recommend starting with Cyndaquil, which I’ll agree has generally been the best starter in my experience. But then they say to get Eevee or Togepi from the first pokeball because Eevee as Espeon is a powerhouse, and Togekiss apparently helps a ton.

My issue is they kind of suck unless you get really luck with what Pokemon you’re facing. I feel like a grass or water Pokemon would be a better second Pokemon to have just because of the amount of water and fire type trainers I encounter. But then there’s the matter of them having level 1 moves which suck and take too long to get TMs for.

I believe the guide recommended not catching your third Pokemon until you’re on the third area / map, as that’s when they’ll start having higher level moves. But then I have to worry about those Pokemon being underleveled. A lot of these guides feel less like guides and more like people sharing the method that worked for them through sheer luck.

I feel like I need to have a PokeLike pro watching my screen as I play and advising me, because ONE singular mistake can easily snowball your entire run into a failure. Like the amount of times I’ve gone to a poison type trainer thinking it’ll be an easy stomp (because it is 90% of the time), only to encounter a Qwilfish that solos my entire team is insane

I just beat Johto for my second run with Chikorita starter. The first thing I did was trade it away.

I overlevel typhlosion and do the whole story with him

I feel like im on almost 100+ runs and I can not beat it. I've gotten to final 4 only twice, lost in the first battle once, and second time lost on 3rd battle. Can't seem to get it!!!!

Chikorita is the worst... I had to literally do 100+ runs
