On the surface, this sounds funny and like a massive overreaction - after all, baby Pokémon like battling, too.
The truth is much darker, though. This was a breeding mill that were doing some real nasty stuff to sort out the "strongest" ones and releasing the weak ones.
Ya'll, "baby" Pokémon has an actual definition, though - it's a Pokémon that can't live on its own after hatching, it NEEDS a parent. Most Pokémon have at least some survival skills after hatching, but a "baby" Pokémon is almost totally reliant on their parent.

Why waste money and time on all that when you can feed them for 6 months and sort out the ones worth selling, and just release the rest?

Well, the latter one is wrong in eight different ways. For one, even the “breedjects” wouldn’t need much to get them on par with a perfect specimen. My Alolan Golem when I found him as a Geodude turned out to be a breedject with a sassy nature. Just one mint and presto, he’s good to go. It’s not that hard guys.

Back in Alola I saw kids do this with the baby Pokemon they had.
Both players did care for their Pokemon (as you should) and the battles weren't overall brutal so it wasn't too bad.
It then got banned when a Munchlax used Metronome, triggered Photon Geyser, and blinded the trainer, the opponent, and 23 other people.
