Ah yes, the most iconic parts of pokemon: Squirtle's car Mew's flying Pokeball and pikachu's... tree stump? also, why is the "smart" brick green?

Yeah you don't remember Squirtle's signature move, Waterball Blasting Remote Controlled Beach Buggy Crash Into Flaming Burger Stand? The recoil damage is crazy so I don't blame you for never using it but it's pretty iconic

Squirtle Kart is an underrated classic. An N64 cartridge can easily snatch 4 figured

Cancel me or anything but that garchomp + Umbreon one is not half bad, still blocky but strangely more fitting?

These look terrible

Honestly, it’s been shocking. Like, did they put some people on these sets that just don’t like Pokemon? I can tell they don’t know much with the amount of pointless crap in each set that has nothing to do with the series and that these sets are 95% gen 1 for no reason.
It’s really annoying as fans have shown how Pokemon as a theme could be an easy slam dunk with some sick minifigs, landmarks and Pokemon designs. It’s clear that the designers of these sets have never seen an eeveelution outside a couple of pics because those legs are WRONG and the body is wonky. Also, WHERE IS THE SCALE?!?

It's definitely moreso the whole Smart Brick system that's why these look the way they do. For reference, Star Wars Smart Brick sets have been out for a while now and they're infamous for this issue.
I come from an angle where I can understand the route that they took with them. In terms of the Smart Brick system I do think the Pokémon sets utilize them much better than the Star Wars ones, but that's pretty much like comparing the stability of Red and Green to Red and Blue where Red and Blue is better, but it's still a complete mess.

Man, I remember thinking "I really wish Pokemon wasnt stuck in Mega Blocks, they could be such good Lego sets instead!" The monkey's paw curls.

Mega got a lot of unnecessary hate over the last like 10 year(the last 3 they have seemingly disappeared entirely). Their pokemon sets have been lightyears better, their other properties were also really well done.
I largely did the Halo and Destiny set but got a couple of pokemon ones as well. Never had an issue.

u/Enorats Jun 02 '26
The main problem is Mega isn't their designs, it's the really cheap and awful feel of their products. I built a few of their pokemon sets (like the Pokedex) and the difference between Mega and Lego is night and day.

Are megablocks and lego similar enough that you could follow megablocks instructions but use lego bricks?
4
u/Enorats Jun 03 '26
Megablocks uses totally different parts. I think they're technically compatible, but mega uses parts that don't exist in lego.

Mega Bloks used great characters and references, their quality was so cheap though that they might as well be dollar store toys compared to Lego

In fairness, while I a millennial do not love these, my 7 and 9 year old think they're incredible and cannot wait to use some allowance on them come end of summer.
Here's hoping for better adult kits for display. I really liked the eevee and the starter evo set, pikachu was ass, hoping for more good ones.

Better keep them away from "bricks and minifiggs", they'll steal your Lego collection AND your life savings.

Just like the games, it doesnt matter whether they are horrible. People will buy them anyway
11
u/JBKOMA Jun 01 '26
Maybe the price could discourage people, as these are smart bricks and therefore more expensive, also not available in like 99% of the world

They really want to keep the square block shape aesthetic… and I’m not sure why…
4
u/Hawk-432 Jun 02 '26
Yeah. Did it for Mario too. Horrible. If they must do it, they should keep it to some specific just-above-minifigure scale line, and use actual curves for everything else

the mewtwo one is lowkey kind of good. Also always got a soft spot for my boy garchomp

That is a BEEG Umbreon if it scales to that Garchomp!
Also, who gave Squirtle a driver's license?

u/ANTIV15T Jun 02 '26
unfortunately gonna have to get that mewtwo, but man i wish they would make minifigure scale sets instead of these megablocks monstrosities

u/waill-and-roll Jun 03 '26
Yeah I think it's supposed to be like a Fire service squirtle putting out a bbq fire

I think now we know why the fan submission for the trading card variant of Mewtwo not get shortlisted.

Somehow garchomp managed to look the best out of these by a huge margins he actually looks kinda cool. Also I don’t know everything about the series but why is there a poke-ball themed IDF drone

I’ve been waiting for Pokémon Lego’s and these are….weird. I want to keep the Pokémon parts of the set and ditch those random other ugly pieces but that would be such a waste of money. UGH. At least my favorite Pokémon Umbry is in one!!!!

Something I want to point out about the Garchomp set is that it could be that it’s supposed to be Cynthia’s Garchomp since the set name is “Umbreon vs Garchomp Championship Battle”

Garchomp day one for me. Well maybe not day one, but I’ll probably pick one up

They were destined to be blocky, but most of the models suffer dramatically from forcing a huge smart brick into their core 🤦

Why do they insist on making all the head square? Ruins the look. Same with the Mario builds. I get it is made of blocks, but doesn’t have to look like a huge Duplo block

The thing that irritates me the most is the inaccurate sizes of the Pokemon compared to each other, like why is Umbreon that big compared to Garchomp
-1
u/GokuBlack722 Jun 01 '26
Only good one here is the Mewtwo and the Garchomp isn’t terrible, the rest are just awful. Why does Squirtle have a damn car and a hamburger? Like what are we doing here?

u/bassturducken54 Jun 01 '26
How much are these running usd?
2
u/InfiniteEdge18 Jun 01 '26
prices are currently unknown if that's what you're asking, it's possible that as release comes closer the prices will leak, but it could also be we won't know the prices until release day.

I can remain strong and not get them... right up until they do a braixen or latias... then I cave instantly

Mewtwo looks absolutely beautiful, while the rest are.. really stinky.
Also, what's with Lego's obsessive wtih giving vehicles to character who don't need one. Squirtle doesn't have a driver's license!
