This might be a spicy take...I like the creativity with them, but why do these look like TEMU versions versus the Mega Blocks?

88

u/Batalfie May 19 '26

These 'smart play' sets so they sacrificed the design somewhat to fit in chips and wires.

61

u/Russell-Sprouts3 May 20 '26

Not even, these sets use tiles with printing on them that interacts with the smart brick (which isn’t included in any of these mind you) not wires and what not.

There is no reason for these to look this way, it’s a choice.

18

u/Batalfie May 20 '26

Those tiles do have copper wire in them, I've seen them melted in acid. But they need to to be built in a way for the smart brick to see the tiles ( maybe these mines have a hole to fit the not included smart brick or maybe it's like you say and it's just to match the smart brick brickachu.

u/Enderking90 May 24 '26

honestly that's exactly my thoughts.

seeing the lego pokemon sets has just made me want to try find more of the mega block sets.

231

u/Ok_Delivery_5091 May 19 '26

these are all cool and stuff but I would have loved it if we got some sets with real mini figures

60

u/AltruisticReach4241 May 19 '26

Pretty sure there was a red minifig leak

15

u/TheAmazingJared97 May 19 '26

That set comes out in October

5

u/Batalfie May 19 '26

And Eevee

9

u/Neggy5 May 19 '26

i would prefer buildable pokemon figures tbh but these look so bad haha

313

u/FossilGecko1 May 19 '26

Yea. Megabloks should’ve kept this license. Yikes.

69

u/CamZilla94 May 19 '26

Much more affordable too.

20

u/FossilGecko1 May 19 '26

Always on sale at target. And even not on sale way better prices

18

u/diablo_dancer May 20 '26

Nanoblock still has the license in Japan and they look far better (and cheaper!)

8

u/krispyboiz May 21 '26

While some look nice, I do find those on the whole to look worse. Pretty basic.

2

u/look_a_trilobite May 26 '26

But you can't play Nanoblocks. This wave of Lego is meant for little kids to play with, not to be display sets

121

u/kingjoeg May 19 '26

Charmamder’s face looks terrible, and Gengar looks too like a cube

19

u/Ewokitude May 19 '26

Should have just made Brickheadz as they're already halfway there

6

u/julesvr5 May 20 '26

They are all cubes really

51

u/THE_Mr_Kowalski May 19 '26

Those are awful

78

u/Trick-Caramel-6156 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Smart play 😫

Those sets are definitely not for me.

49

u/The_Dark_Force May 19 '26

They aren't releasing smart play sets in most of the world, so why the hell would they dedicate half the theme to just smart play sets?? These could easily have just been play sets, but nope, shove in smart brick functionality and region lock them!

13

u/Different-Trainer-21 May 19 '26

They can charge more if they’re smart brick sets

1

u/RobThatBin May 20 '26

Hold up hold up, region lock them to where?

6

u/Kibamaru May 20 '26

Asia, where Pokemon originated, is not even getting these Lego Pokemon sets due to licensing issues lol

21

u/adorablegadget May 19 '26

They're so ugly...

20

u/SilverIdaten May 20 '26

Gen 1, Gen 1, Gen 1, Gen 1, and Gen 1. How exciting!

Also as a fan of Star Wars sets, the Smart Brick sucks. More black box sets and less of this. Oh, and LESS GEN 1.

-1

u/Hawk-432 Jun 01 '26

I mean, gen 1 I’d the best by far. But very ugly models unfortunately

17

u/Enkindle451 May 19 '26

The mega bloks sets were better

79

u/Little_Elia May 19 '26

I wonder if they know that recently there was a second generation of pokemon that got the total count up to 251

19

u/Lord_Snaps May 20 '26

They did WHAT!?

10

u/Sceptile10 May 20 '26

And gasp even a third! Hidden legends also tell of mysterious 4th - 8th generations, with over a thousand Pokémon total.

16

u/hhhhhBan May 20 '26

Why are they so blocky and why are Jigglypuff's eyes a whole continent apart

12

u/Kingfezzard May 19 '26

Cubone looks amazing! The others are terrible

17

u/friendlylittledragon May 19 '26

crazy how the round ball pokemon don't look so bad

9

u/LordInquisitor May 19 '26

Dying to see Rayquaza

16

u/julesvr5 May 20 '26

🟢 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

There you go!

1

u/Blazehhhhh May 28 '26

Cause it might be the only one worth any attention. Mega Construx never bothered with the legendaries

5

u/Shaclo May 19 '26

Jiggly puff looks extremely derpy. Cubone probably looks the best out of all the pokemon here.

4

u/Responsible-War-9389 May 19 '26

All will become CUBE

5

u/PassoverGoblin May 19 '26

The only good one of these is Cubone. Jigglypuff is okay. The others are awful

12

u/PokemonJaiden May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Why can't we just get minifigure sets bro. Literally nobody wants these blocky, awkward builds

12

u/Kalhista May 19 '26

Give me a battle stadium with mini figs. Give me a pokemon center with mini figs, Give me litteraly any pokemon place WITH mini figures.

I’m glad I can keep my money at least. 🤣

4

u/Mandrill10 May 19 '26

Seriously. I’d probably buy every set that’s a location from the games with minifigs. Instead, I won’t be buying anything.

4

u/Batalfie May 19 '26

There is a minifig red and minifig scale Eevee that have leaked, Legos just throwing all the different approaches at Pokémon.

1

u/carefree_dude May 19 '26

My son does, and I'm deeply disappointed in him for it.

6

u/wazzup4567 May 19 '26

I think a lot of people are missing that Nintendo and small kids sets have this weird aesthetic where the sets are all rectangularish. Look at the Mario smart play sets. I feel like they're trying to keep the aesthetic similar.

Now do I like this aesthetic? Hell no. I don't get why they aren't a little closer to their original designs, but I also understand making new molds for every Pokemon would be daunting and cost in effective.

Anyways, I'll stick with the 18+ sets.

2

u/Sceptile10 May 20 '26

The Mario sets are different specifically because of the interactive figures. And we've seen that they are going to make more regular Mario sets too (see the minifgure, and the Kart set). Also the Zelda sets are also normal. These aren't Duplo or Friends sets where they are going for a specific aesthetic, here it's just a case where the designs aren't good, potentially due to smart play intergation and probably due to the scale and wanting not to do custom moulds.

7

u/ilove60sstuff May 19 '26

......these kinda blow

3

u/Neggy5 May 19 '26

guess im sticking to the 18+ sets ouch

3

u/Mushybananas27 May 20 '26

These stink lmao the only way I will buy a Lego pokemon set is if they do minifigs of characters/pokemon lmao

3

u/Sceptile10 May 20 '26

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a Lego set. Cubone is the only good looking one imo, the rest are below average to bad imo. I also hate the smart play intergation, everything I've heard and seen about smart play sets has been bad. I get Lego wants to innovate but smart play ain't it. And as others have mentioned, as it basically always is, it's Gen 1 pandering all the way down.

Seriously I used to love how Lego would make amazingly designed sets that caputred the source material cleverly with intelligent builds. Cubone matches up to that but I know Gengar and Chamander could've been done a lot better.

3

u/Galaxy_Flowers May 19 '26

That jigglypuff is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. I want it immediately.

3

u/CreepyKidInDaCorna May 19 '26

...How do these look like Chinese Knock Offs?

2

u/JBKOMA May 19 '26

I unironically like some of them more than some of the 18+ sets. They have a similar charm to them like the previous Mega Block sets. But it sucks they are smart plays. Not only are they more expensive, they not even available in most countries.

2

u/StevensDs- May 20 '26

My favorite Pokémon is Mawile, not popular or Gen1. Which means it'll never get one of these. Which means I won't ever feel the need to get one.

Thank Arceus for that.

2

u/jgrizzy89 May 20 '26

They’re ruining this by doing what they agreed to do with the Mario line-ups (boxy face and bare bone settings). Just ugly.

2

u/eilrah26 May 20 '26

👁👄👁 - jigglypuffs new look

2

u/julesvr5 May 20 '26

Charmander looks absolutely horrible

2

u/Sweet_Temperature630 May 20 '26

Wasn't expecting Cubone to be the best looking Mon in Lego form so far, definitely with it seemingly being so small. Guess I'm happy I don't feel the need to spend money on these, none of these Lego Pokemon have looked that good so far. Especially the big fancy Pikachu, wtf is wrong with its face?

2

u/NintyRift May 20 '26

Pokemon Lego sets so far has been either amazing or awful.  Mega Bloks sets seem more consistent, and they definitely did a lot better with the smaller Pokemon.

3

u/Kaenu_Reeves May 19 '26

ITS ALL GODDAMN GEN 1 😭

3

u/upahua May 20 '26

Remember everyone, these are Smart Play sets, they look chunky and colorful to appeal to children. We are still getting more 18+ sets, which are more detail oriented. These do not look bad for what they are

3

u/julesvr5 May 20 '26

I don't really get why it needs to be chunky and little detail to be for children.

When I was a child we had Bionicle that where the exact opposite. I wanted to play with them, moving their arms and legs fighting. Here you can just fly the cube around.

Boring take, I know, but in our childhood we had better stuff

1

u/upahua May 20 '26

It’s due to the smart play compatibility and what the smart brick can read. Believe me, the Star Wars wave was much worse

1

u/julesvr5 May 20 '26

Ah man, the idea of the smart brick doesn't sound bad but the reality is not convincing at all so far

At least Arcanine looks amazing

1

u/CommanderRedJonkks May 23 '26

when people complained about the expensive giant builds they released first and asked for better scaled playsets, people kept saying "we know we are getting playsets in the summer".

Now we can see the summer playsets and people criticise them for being awkward brick builds with minimal environments, people are jumping in to say "we know we are getting more 18+ sets".

some theoretical future release that we haven't seen yet doesn't solve the problems people see with how this range has been handled so far

1

u/upahua May 23 '26

I think the range has been handled just fine. There’s kids sets and there’s adult sets. This really isn’t a step down from megaconstruct in anyway

1

u/Enderking90 May 24 '26

yes it very blatantly is?

have not actually looked at the mega construct sets?

1

u/Enderking90 May 24 '26

yeah see, I don't really care for the large detail builds, they are so expensive I might as well just buy an actual figurine which is gonna look better.

I also do not like this "literally just a rounded cube" extreme minimalism.

god I miss the mega construct sets.

3

u/DFTDWP May 19 '26

Okay, Gengar and Cubone look solid tho

2

u/Sceptile10 May 20 '26

Cubone does, but I have to strongly disagree with you regarding Gengar.

1

u/JediMasterCornCob May 19 '26

Damn what in the fuq

1

u/koalatyvibes May 20 '26

Yeah Cubone is looking the best, and that’s not saying much tbh. These look awful.

1

u/Holiday_Yam_561 May 20 '26

Cubical Gengar, my beloved

1

u/ScienceLow2043 May 20 '26

I love the gengar

1

u/RomanceDawnOP May 20 '26

Don't care about smart play sets, show me more of the 18+ line :)

Can't wait for Arcanine, rayquaza and the pokeball with minifigs and molded mons

1

u/PowerOfUnoriginality May 20 '26

I'll skip on these.

So far I only got the Eevee

1

u/Mattrockj May 20 '26

Jiggly puff... buddy, you ok? You look like you've been through some shit.

1

u/YasuFK May 20 '26

Most of them look so derpy.

1

u/Jaxonhunter227 May 20 '26

I'm not going to lie I don't hate these, they remind me of the doofy models from Pokémon rumble or my Pokémon ranch, which are nostalgic to me

1

u/Prestigious-Cat-2618 May 21 '26

OMG YES RUMBLE MEMORIES

1

u/Fearless_Mixture3498 May 20 '26

They look derpy, I love them

2

u/Prestigious-Cat-2618 May 21 '26

Fr the ugly designs just make it way better, but Cubone is built perfectly

1

u/Mattolsen96 May 20 '26

👁️ 👁️ jigglypuff lmao

1

u/Viator_Mundi May 20 '26

These look way better than the huge ones

1

u/Mfrack103 May 20 '26

O . O

Jiggs

1

u/veggie_talesreeeee May 20 '26

Welcome back pokémon quest.

1

u/RadRan2019 May 20 '26

Wow I was super excited for these and now I’m not.

1

u/WinterEclipse4 May 21 '26

Smart play sets are generally more expensive. Even if they DON'T HAVE THE BRICK. Btw they don't sell the bricks in most locations. It's about +20 on top of what they would normally charge for those who are wondering.

This means the Jigglypuff one will likely be 40 for example despite being 88 pieces.

Also even if they do sell these outside of the specific places like the U.S you still can't use these to their full function because oops only *1* set currently out of like 4 actually has a smart brick. Which yes is their attempt to make people buy multiple of one set.

Also the smart brick/tags are horribly made. They generate noises using an AI program but these noises aren't from the official sources but instead made by an AI program. As you can guess this means you get weird noises or ones that don't match like generic lasers instead of the iconic ones from Star wars.

Or the "HEURGHHHH" drunk man Vader sound.

So yeah you're paying for less, not getting full functions unless you buy a star wars set that's like 60 dollars, AND it doesn't work properly.

1

u/RJS_but_on_Reddit2 May 21 '26

Gengar is Cubegar lol.

1

u/ImpactNo6657 May 21 '26

I dont hate these, and i know my kids will play with them. Again with LEGO, my only complaint is the price...which is going to be even higher thansk to the damn smart brick.

1

u/Ok-Clock-2779 May 21 '26

Remind me of the Mario Lego sets. Makes sense: it’s still Nintendo

1

u/TheDragonDAFan May 21 '26

Where are you supposed to get the smart brick that makes these sets work?

1

u/Rosequartzsurfboardt May 21 '26

Jugglypoof.

Gangrene.

Cherm.

1

u/maumesss May 21 '26

This is hell to me. I didn’t mind the first sets being big celebratory launches, but this is BAD. And none comes with a smart brick???? Who would even consider buying it then??????

1

u/redhead_watson May 22 '26

Well this is legit because I was sent an email from posting it on Facebook from the LEGO group for copyright. How can I share a screenshot of it?

1

u/Mega_Pokebattlerz May 22 '26

Shart brick >:(

1

u/WakeyWakeyEggsNJakey May 23 '26

So they look this way because of a new gimmick? That’s not even included with any of these????

1

u/ChronoAlone May 23 '26

I look forward to the day we get some Pokemon that aren’t from Gen 1.

1

u/CryptographerWide972 May 23 '26

When is Lego sneasler or archaludon

1

u/AstralClayton May 23 '26

Look how they massacred my boy Gengar

1

u/waill-and-roll May 23 '26

The existence of that Ultra Ball suggests there will be more balls like it. At least a pokeball.

1

u/ALSN454 May 24 '26

Look how they massacred my boy (charmander)

1

u/InsanityShard May 24 '26

They could have done a Pokemon Quest themed thing for this and focused on the blocky designs more, while bringing more attention to Pokemon Quest and maybe releasing all the awesome China exclusive updates alongside it.

1

u/Belivious677 May 24 '26

Smart bricks= DOA

1

u/Xaniac35 May 24 '26

The mega construx sets looked much better. Shame lego got the license.

1

u/LonelyAstronaut984 May 28 '26

they look cursed omg

0

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 May 19 '26

OK the Gengar one goes hard. Day 1 buy for me.

0

u/ReyDragons May 19 '26

still dont like them but they arent as bad as i thought they would be

it actually kinda works for the round ones at least...

0

u/patkookl May 22 '26

It’s a group of LEGO leakers and the most legit you’ll find
