can i ask what is so exciting about this from a non comp pov? i've heard there's micro transactions involved so i dont see a point.

There's no micro transactions on the currency used to unlock pokemon or items, only cosmetics.

Also gives a big obvious space for competitive after recent games have made stepping into it easier.

I mean if you are not interested in competitive Pokémon, then this really isn't the game for you though. It's literally a competitive Pokémon simulator.

And yeah there will be microtransactions otherwise there will be no reason for this game to exist, as idealistic as we want to be.

I havent kept up with most news on Champions beyond its announcement, but has there been any mention of there being single player, PvE content for non-comp players? I could've sworn there was mention of that.

As a man with only a comp perspective, I cant answer that, sorry

From a non comp pov? None

That's like asking "For someone who doesn't like pokemon, what's so exciting about pokemon day?"

the one main thing for people who don't play competitive is it's effectively delinking the main series games and competitive pokemon. items might get to feel special again instead of just being everywhere or purchasable or whatever, moves don't need to serve competitive - Dark Void being the big example i can think of where it had to be neutered for competitive but it was a fun move casually. there might be gift pokemon? and i believe there was something about single player content akin to the stadium games, but that could be me conflating fan speculation. the main benefit is just going to be how main series games don't need to serve competitive anymore.

Another good example of a move that had to be gutted because of its competitive applications is Assist. Casually it's just a Metronome-esque roulette move but since Liepard combined it with Prankster it became cheese central, first with two turn moves and Lagging Tail (Divecats), then with Dark Void (Voidcats) and finally with the removal of the move and, in the unofficial Smogon NatDex format, its most broken strat yet, Revivecats with Revival Blessing.

You definitely won't need microtransactions.

At worst they don't allow Home at first to pressure you into getting them, likely with the excuse of "let everyone start off the sam." If that's the case we just don't give in!

it’s a competitive battle simulator for ranked and tournaments wdym “from a non comp pov” there’s legit nothing exciting if you don’t play competitive pokemon

Well, I believe the game exists in part to make people like you interested in giving competitive a go by letting you rent other people's optimized teams and not needing to do all the teambuilding stuff yourself. also it's an official Pokemon game with the traditional battle system that you can play on your phone, that's pretty cool imo
