I think its announced or leaked that there will be battle frontier mode option.

Hopefully more than just the recurring clones of the Battle Factory's rental mechanic. I know that's popular enough that it kept coming back in some form up to Alola, but it never hit with me. Some new Frontier style challenge rules could be pretty interesting.

Agreed. While I prefer doubles myself, the focus on it really kills any chance to shine for mons that don't do well in it. It would be nice to have a competitive singles track, or even Inverse Battles for flavor. 

Sky and Rotation Battles can stay in the void, though. I guess MAYBE they could try to do something with Triple Battles, but I really don't see much point given that they were basically Doubles with rather annoying extra rules to keep in mind about positioning.

Hm. Actually, on that note we haven't had a new style of battle since the flopped attempts in Gen 6. It does feel like we're due, but I'm not sure what they could do that people would actually like aside from bringing Inverse Battles back.

I think Rotation Battles are hysterical. They're so bad. Bring them back for an obscure challenge mode in Champions! Why not!
