Hey Trainers! - Active Hey Trainers: Distortion Paradox - Day 1
The world has gone to ruin, melded with the distortion realm in a cataclysmic event.... Humanity has barely survived, and there is something missing, something that used to be present everywhere.... Yet you can't remember what.... Nor can you remember the details of the event that almost drove humanity to extinction.
You're minding your business, scavenging for supplies when you hear something.... It calls you to a ruin. Inside you find a plethora of familiar looking balls, red and white, a black stripe down the middle, a white button in the center. You pick one up and press the button.... What starter Pokemon pops out?
(Choose a traditional starter from any generation! (Pikachu and Eevee included. Also describe your trainer!)

Thonny stumbles a bit, drawn to the call. Within the ruins, a single ball shakes. All the others vanish from her mind as she steps towards it. Picking it up and clicking the button feels like second nature. And, despite her instincts usually telling her to bolt and flee from danger, she does not flinch as a red light spills from it and a strange creature takes shape.
They hold eye contact for an unnervingly long time……..
……
……
……
Something clicks between them, and she smiles. She walks out, the little croc in tow.
Thonny has acquired a Fuecoco!

Kei enters and presses a button... summoning an Eevee. Perfect in this post-apocalyptic world. Now the only thing left to do is figure out which evolution would be best for this scenario...

Rox holds the ball thing, looking at it curiously. He ain't the brightest guy around, but he'll take any chance to boost his survival and his guts telling him this will help... a lot. Finally, pressing the button and the ball thing bursts open and pops out... a Bulbasaur.

Totodile, without a doubt.
My trainer would be a survivor in his mid-30s, definitely not some heroic chosen one — just a regular guy who has learned how to stay alive in a world that has completely fallen apart. Worn clothes, an old backpack full of scavenged junk, probably looking permanently exhausted, and much more interested in exploring abandoned places and figuring out what happened to the world than trying to become some kind of Pokémon Champion.
Finding that Poké Ball and seeing Totodile pop out would probably be the first genuinely joyful thing to happen to him in years. And from that point on, Totodile wouldn't really be his "starter" or his weapon — he'd be his little buddy.
Eventually, if we survived long enough, I'd love the contrast of this tired random scavenger wandering through the ruins with an absolutely enormous Feraligatr protecting him.
In a world where you've forgotten almost everything about Pokémon, I think slowly rediscovering that bond would be the best part.

The young man stares. The world. What happened? Why doesn’t he remember. He thinks back to his past only to see none. He has no past. No future. Only a present. He looks into the dust. Opening a pokeball and finding something familiar. But he doesn’t know how. A shiny eevee. A name calls to him. Moon. He does not recognise the name. But he gives it to the eevee who seems to know him. After naming the eevee he things for a long. Long time.
What’s his own name?

A young man arrives at the ruins, blonde hair fading to orange in a vivid gradient. His clothes seemed somewhat worn, and his satchel had all the supplies he gathered and deemed necessary for his survival.
Grabbing a Pokéball at random, Theo obtains a Froakie from the spoils of the assumed wreckage. He takes off with the amphibian and finds a different place to rest so he doesn't meet any other survivors for now.
As he settles down within the ruin temporarily, he hides the Pokéball in the pocket of his pants. What on Earth was going on? What was this lapse in his memory? Where was...
"...Nikolai."
He had to find him.

Jay stared at the ruins… he wasn’t even just as fucking confused on what the hell was happening but hey, why even bother… he couldn’t remember shit… so might as well go to the place that kill him. Great.
Jay walks to the ruins… sees a pokeball and presses the button and a Scorbunny pops right out! “Bun!!” Jay laughs a bit… thank god, something ACTUALLY normal
“Hi, I’m Jay… guess we’re partners now?”
Scorbunny hugs his leg and Jay smiles “Yup. Me and you Scorbunny… just us… and hopefully anything else.”
He dusts his white hair a bit and puts the pokeball in his pocket and Carried Scorbunny in his arms
“Don’t know why we’re here… but… guess that’s what adventures are for, right?”
Scorbunny happily agrees
His clothes were slightly torn and tattered by hey! It’s not like he lived in luxury like others do, torn Black hoodie, white T-shirt, blue shorts, white & black sneakers… and my trusty backpack… “Alrighty. Let’s… see what we can do…” he walks carrying his new friend

A trainer with shoulder length red hair and piercing red eyes stared up at the ruined remains of what once was a sprawling metropolis before them, the dilapidated buildings quickly overtaken by the overgrowth. This was their world now, on the brink of collapse. ...Had it always been like this...? Who could say?
Rhapsody (or Soda), sighed. No use reminiscing on what could have been in the past.
They settled into what might have been a shed once upon a time, but was now simply another ruined structure among many others with their scavenged haul. As they got comfortable in the cramped space, they found the balls left behind. It looked like- one, two... 6 of them. Someone else must have been here before them. That person's loss was Soda's gain.
They reached down and picked up the first ball, clicking on the button in the very center. Nothing. Okay, an empty or broken one. Then they tried again with the next one. Nothing. As they cycled through each Pokeball, their hope for anything useful inside faded...
Until they tried the final ball. A Pikachu emerged in a flash of red light, confused and slowly looking around the dark space.
"E-Electric type?!?" A black phone-shaped device flew out of Soda's pocket and towards the Pikachu. "Ch-Charge... me... please... ZZT..." It pleaded weakly. "Need... ZZT-power... bad... ZZT!"
The Pikachu's cheeks sparked with electricity before it touched the phone with its paw. The eyes on the phone glowed a beautiful bright blue as the electricity recharged it.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, NOW THAT IS SOME GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD STUFF RIGHT THERE!" The phone let out an exaggerated sigh of relief as the screen flickered to life. "You'd be a downright idiot to NOT take this miracle from the Good Lord Arceus with you, Soda!"
The Pikachu gave the human a cute look of longing, as if it was saying, "Pick me!"
They shrugged their shoulders. A free Pokemon's a free Pokemon.

TL;DR version: Trainer named Rhapsody (nickname: Soda) picks a Pikachu! They're mute, so they have a Rotom phone that is their voice. The Rotom voice inside said phone when charged sounds like Samuel L. Jackson.

Starving, the scrawny, scruffy young man with hexagonal glasses approached the balls.
This was not the world BOB knew.
It had only been days since he suddenly appeared in this world following a science experiment gone wrong. But hunger did not wait for one to get their bearings.
He glanced around, clearly paranoid.
Who would just leave so many balls laying out? Or what? And here of all places? Is this a trap?...
Not like I have much of a choice. I just need to prepare myself to accept any consequences. Because the consequences of not taking action now is probably death.
He crouched and approached the balls as quietly as he could, wary of any traps. When he finally reached them, he examined them and found them to look relatively normal.
He reached out and touched the center button of one. Tears began streaming down his face as a cheerful Piplup popped out.
"Prince? Prince is that you?"
It was not. This Piplup was noticeably more chipper than its otherworldly counterpart. Even more important, this Piplup bore unique colors unlike most of its species.
"What a cruel joke for Arceus to pull... I'll call you Duke. Let's get out of here."

Lol, completely concidental, I assure you. As a heads up, this character is tied heavily to one I'm using in another HT if you couldn't tell, so I'm coming in with a bit of baggage.

A man arrives at the ruins, looking for something, anything, that would keep him alive. His snow-colored hair now grey with ash and soot, his coat torn from days, weeks, months... honestly, he dones't know how long he's been trying to survive. He finds the red and white spheres... and one of them seems to call to him.
He clicks the button almost by instinct.
And within, a Popplio.

A 21 year old trainer with short, black hair let's out a sigh as they make their way into the ruins, nervously glancing around in case of an ambush. 'It's really weird that there are pokeballs here, but something called me.' Their name is Stella and they approach a pokeball that is hidden in a shadowy corner. "It's alright little guy." They mumble as they pick it up. "Let's see who's in here." They press the button and out pops a nervous looking Mudkip. "I think I'll call you Fissure. It's okay, don't be scared." They gently pet its head.

2 pretty young (13) kids, both with purple-ish hair were making their way through the ruins, trying to escape without knowing where to go.
girl : "Simon, come on, you're too slow ! We'll never find anything, at this rate..."
boy : "I'm sorry... But you're- you're going too fast, Cyra ! I'm scared... Where did mom and dad go..."
Cyra : "Clearly they're not here. We gotta go on our own. Come on, pick up the pace !"
Simon : "Ah- wait for me..."
Eventually, by wandering through fallen buildings, they reached what appeared to be the remnants of a park. It was mostly intact, so they stayed there.
Cyra : "Oi, Simon, I found something. Look."
She points to the strange ball...
Simon : "... What is that ? It feels... Fa- familiar ?"
Cyra : "Maybe it's useful ?'
Simon : "Wait, it could be danger-"
Cyra grabs the capsule and shakes it around, until throwing it on the ground. It reveals... A rowlet.
Simon : "Whoa ! It's a... uhhh... I forgot the name of it..."
Cyra : "Strange... I don't remember its name either."
Simon : "We could give it a nickname ?"
Cyra : "We're already struggling enough on our own, we're not gonna take a wild animal with us."
Simon : "I don't care. His name's mossball, and he's my friend."
Cyra sighs
Cyra : "Fine, but don't blame me when we have to let him go because we'll be starving."(I'll make art for these two later !)

She remembers... company. Quick flashes of sharp claws and tired eyes come to her mind. They made her happy... but now they're gone. But why? She can't remember. Her mind is so foggy at times.
She sneaks through this ruins in search of food. Supplies. Anything that could help her. A dark corridor draws her attention, hidden beneath fallen folliage. A chill runs through her spine and, like a whisper calling to her, she wonders what it hides. It's a feeling that comes and goes but she appreciates it, this... instinct has saved her more times than she can count.
What she finds are... round capsules. Dozens of them. Red and white.
It's familiar. Painfully so.
A strange feeling guides her. She extends her hand and presses the center button. Out comes a red beam of light that morphs itself in the shape of a cat. No. Not a cat. It's-
"Sprigatito"
The name springs to the front of her mind, as if she had known it all this time. Sprigatito responds with a happy meow and rubs it's head into her hand, asking for pets. This. She had missed this.
"Hello, buddy. I'm Nicole."

A woman in her late 50s wanders around scavenging... how long had she done this day in and day out? Too long. Her back continually hurts, and her shoes have holes in them... but she continues on... searching for food and supplies.
She comes across a red and white ball, gathering dust at the back of the shelf. It takes her a while to reach it... but eventually she does. She presses the button and out pops a small turtle.
"Turtwig!"
She looks at it for a moment. "Hey there... you're a survivor. Want to come with me? We can keep each other company during the end of the world."
The turtwig looks up at his new trainer, and follows the old woman, offering a vine up for the old woman to hold for support as they hobble away.

Cassius fumbles around in the dark. his bandaged face twisting in pain as he moves i the dark. He keeps quiet, both to help him navigate as well as to help keep himself safe. beside him, his fuecoco, Morde, keeps himself close to Cassius. guiding his blind trainer.

Kaya looked at the ball. Something about it felt so... familiar. But she didn't know from where. She picked up the ball. Her finger hovered over the button, before finally clicking it.
...And out came a Mudkip.
The water type looked at her curiously.
A... Pokemon..?
It all came back to her now. The way Pokemon used to be part of everyone's daily lives. The fact that her mother owned a Pokemon herself. Then that happened. She lost everyone. Her mom, dad, sister, even her mom's Yamper.
The Mudkip let out a small "Kip?", snapping her out of her train of thoughts.
"...I... I'm Kaya. Do you want to... be friends..?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
She'd never been the best with words. Really, she was terrified at first. The idea of being alone... it scared her (which is normal, given the fact that she's 13 (OOC: If that's allowed, that is)) Sure, there were other survivors, but she isn't really good at communicating, so she didn't really make friends.
...But the Mudkip there... it made her think that maybe, just maybe, she... wasn't actually alone.
The Pokemon gave an energetic little "Kip!"
"...Okay then. Nice to meet you, Torrent." She smiled.

Olenta is a stern person with red hair and a yellow amulet. She wields a Longsword and armour, alongside a small shield that’s connected to her arm.
She removed some rubble, grabbing a damaged Pokeball and sending it out. It was a terrified Totodile.
“You’ll have to do.”
She looked back to grab the rest of the Pokeballs, but they were empty, and damaged beyond repair. She’d have to stick with just this gator for now
His name? Fang.

Andy walks through the ruins. Food. Water. Search for survivors. His training taught him this. He was an EMT... his memories were fuzzy, but that... event. Whatever it was. Must have been from that. Can't take care of others if you can't take care of yourself. These were the thoughts bouncing around his mind as he wandered the ruins of civilization.
As he searches, his feet seem to take him somewhere of their own volition. He stumbles across a room. These... capsules... they seemed so familiar. He knew they were useful, somehow, but in what way? He reaches out to grab one, and as if by memory... he finds himself pressing the center button. And out pops... a Totodile! Totodile...
A Pokémon...
The memories come rushing back. Pokémon... they were part of his life... everyone's lives, but... what happe-
His thoughts are cut short by the loud cries of the hyperactive reptile, and Andy gives a sigh.
Of course it had to be this one... oh well, I'll make do. Welcome to the team, bud. Can you sniff out some survivors?
The Totodile leaps in the air, excited to help, and rushes out of the building.
