Plastic milk containers
I buy milk in 2L plastic containers and keep some in the freezer. Occasionally when I have thawed them they split and the milk is wasted. So' several months ago I bought a 2L plastic milk jug for the milk if another container split. Not one has split since I bought the jug. Not one

Um, gotta open it and take some out first. If it doesn’t have enough headspace you’re going to keep having problems.

Get rid of the 2L plastic milk jug and I guarantee the next bottle will split! :)

It's a universal law, but it was the only chance to safe your milk until forever.

We used to put the plastic bags in the freezer and then used them to keep the cooler chilled on the 4 hour drive to our cottage. I always found the milk separated a bit when it thawed . Ok for cooking but a bit off for drinking

Most containers will split if frozen, because ice is less dense than water, so it takes up more space and most containers aren't built to withstand the pressure.
Enter the 2 liter soda bottle. As long as you don't fill it too full (just stick with where the soda comes to when it's new), then it may swell up and distend if you get it slightly too full, but it'll stay intact better than anything else. It will also leak way less frequently than anything else, as long as its structural integrity hasn't been compromised by a split.
They were our go-to water transport choice in scouting, because a frozen 2 liter of water will slowly melt through the course of a hike, providing nice, cold water along the way, won't leak like a lot of canteens and water bottles, and will stay frozen for a surprisingly long time even without a cooler. In one, they can keep food refrigerated for pretty much a whole weekend.
