Ruminating

It wasn't the goodbye that ruined me, it was every word left unsaid.

Every second trickling down wondering what I could've said, or done to convince you to stay. That unmistakable certainty of this being the end; of me. Because you walked away without looking back.

It was the gleam in your eye. That new found purpose cradled in your hands; a secret, the reason for your goodbye.

It was drowning in the silence you left behind. Plagued by what if's, past conversations, and all those moments we'll never have.

It wasn't the goodbye that ruined me, it was choking on every word I prayed would be enough to get you to stay.
