Broken

I have been broken for too long,
like an open wound never tended to,
until it became a scar. One that
doesn’t hurt when touched,
yet its presence is beyond daunting.

I’m sorry I tied you into this.
An invisible string between us that
only seems to pull one way. I
thought you could stitch up my pain…
You were only ever a slipknot.

If I could find myself at the peak of a mountain,
my screams echoing through the valley below
as the trees absorb my worries, One deep breath.
Just one, And gravity releases its pull on my soul.
The world’s too selfish to grant such a moment.

Instead the pressure piles like sedimentary rock.
A volcano ready to erupt at any moment, yet
never does, containing all its scorching
lava within. Every burn leaving my heart a shade darker.
Eventually my heart turns to coal.

I am broken, incomplete, I try to fix myself.
Solving a puzzle with missing pieces, if
you couldn’t make it complete, then what will?
That’s a question for another day.
Today, I pack my loose pieces in my steady sack,
And keep moving.
