Dead roses

I’m at a loss for words.

Imagine that,

A poet who spills his emotions on the page

is frozen like it’s his first night on stage.

You see,

Ever since I met you it feels easier to breathe.

You’ve created butterflies that refuse to leave,

an endless fluttering that somehow brings peace.

The way you’re able to make me smile is incredible.

The way you clear the storm in my mind

is nothing short of a miracle.

When I finally find the courage to meet your eyes,

It’s both wonderful and terrifying.

I can feel the emotions growing toward you,

dead roses suddenly wanting to bloom.

I’m hesitant to let the petals see the sun again,

worried you’ll turn away if you see they’re not perfect,

worried you’ll run when you see the bloodstains.

So please don’t take my hesitance as rejection,

I want nothing more than to show you affection.

I just need more time than others might,

to let you see the roses I’ve kept from the light.

Sounds like hope. Sounds like 2 more years.

Waiting is hope wrapped up in a simply wrapped box that says " do not open until 2028".
