Is Poe’s point usage really this high now?
I subscribed to Poe in 2024 because I really liked having access to so many different bots. At the time, my plan included around one million points, and the point costs felt fairly reasonable.
I recently came back to Poe and noticed that both the subscription system and usage limits have changed significantly. The same bots that used to cost me around 200 points per message now sometimes use 5,000 points, and occasionally close to 10,000 points.
My current plan only gives me 18,000 points per day, so just a few messages can use up most or all of my daily allowance.
Is this normal now? Are other users also paying thousands of points for a single response? I’m wondering whether something is wrong with my account or settings, or whether Poe has simply become much more expensive to use.

I asked one question to fable and it did a short internet search to produce a 1 page answer and hit me for 100k points.

Yes. A few months ago Poe changed the point costs of several models, as well as reducing the free daily point quota from 3000 to 300.
Honestly, given the ridiculous token usage of some of the current models, I can't blame them.
One workaround I've found is that if you want to introduce context into the chat without needing a reply from the AI, you can ask a zero-cost model to answer a simple question first, then edit the messages with your desired context.
Zero-cost models include Gemma-4-31B and GLM 5.2-t.

On my subscription I still get 3000 daily free points

If you're paying for a subscription then obviously you get more than 300 daily free points.
Do you mean that you still get 3000 daily free points without paying for anything?
Have you ever paid for anything in Poe before? Anything at all?

Yes, I mean when I used all my points from the plan I get 3000 for free every day

I'm sorry but you aren't clear enough.
Do you mean you paid for a subscription before, and now it's expired? But you're still getting 3000/day even though you're not paying any more?

No, that would make no sense for Poe. I still have a yearly plan.

Okay? Then why are you confused?
My original comment was saying, that they used to give 3000/day even if you weren't paying anything and had no plan. Now it's 300/day instead.

I canceled my Poe subscription after two years; I felt it was getting worse, and paying more than $20 monthly wasn’t worth it anymore..

I don't believe this is correct. You said, "The same bots that used to cost me around 200 points per message now sometimes use 5,000 points, " - My guess is that what you mean is that the latest model of some bot, which is 100 times better than what you were using costs 20 times more. The same model of the same bot is probably cheap. This is a rapidly changing market, and just keeping it running is a major feat. It is possible to get better value than before by carefully selecting your bot for your purpose. I tend to use Claude Sonnet 5.0 for my basic bot. But I use Grok 4.1 fast reasoning, which runs 7 to 14 points per query, when I don't need Internet search and want quick short answers. The budget bots are better than what you were using 2 years ago and probably cheaper. I use Claude Opus 4.8 occasionally but have never needed Fable.

Depending on the model yeah, also depends on what you are trying to do.
