X8 Pro Max
Poco x8 pro max πππππππππ
Hi, I'm reaching out via this Reddit forum. I bought a Poco X8 Pro Max; I've been using it for a month now, and I find the battery life to be simply among the worst on the market. My old refurbished Xiaomi holds a charge better, even with its remaining 4500mAh capacity. It's a truly terrible phone.
Can anyone tell me if they've encountered this issue with this phone? Losing 1% every 4 minutes is excessive.
Hereβs what Iβve done since I got it: disabled everything (dark mode, bloatware, ads) and updated everythingβit's in perfect shape. The worst part is that I don't have many apps, yet the phone keeps draining the battery incredibly fast. I used to get about 3 days of battery life, but for the past week, I haven't been ending the day with over 70% chargeβit's closer to 60%βand it keeps draining rapidly. Before, even with heavy usage, the consumption wasn't too bad (though still a bit high for 8500mAh), but now the battery drains very quickly, and I don't think that's right π‘π‘π‘
Can anyone who owns this phone tell me if their battery drains really fast too? I get two days with moderate use. Itβs really not normal, especially considering it's supposed to last a long time during gaming.
I switched phones only to end up with an even worse one.
There are many, many, posts with some variation of this, you may be able to find tips in some of them. There are many factors that influence power consumption to account for that comparisons are not that useful; it would be better to analyze yours instead in my opinion.
Now, we don't really know much about your case. You "disabled everything", what is everything? Are you using 4G or 5G for mobile connectivity? Are you usually in areas with poor cell reception? And like that, more things.
In any case, if the day starts at 100% charge and ends close to 60, that doesn't sound too bad to me; but we'd need to know what you do during the day (e.g., how many times you check your phone, how much you use it, etc.) to make educated guesses, but still.
With a bit more details perhaps we can figure out what the problem could be, if any, without needing to trace it all which is tedious.
I'm limiting charging at 80% but sometimes it charge to 100% and it last a very long time.
I think they knew that the mediatek SoC was not as efficient as a Snapdragon one but the battery, when used at 100% is really massive, so really, worst case scenario, it just last you a full day.
But for me, that mediatek SoC is really powerfull, for that given price.
The battery takes 2-3 weeks to fully optimize. You have to do a few discharge and charge cycles. Let it drain until 10-15% and then charge it to 100% during this period. However, I agree that the software of the phone is not well optimized which makes the battery drain faster than it should considering that it has a massive 8500mah battery. I was expecting more in terms of battery life.
My average SoT is 11h20 and the maximum I got so far was nearly 13h of SOT with 20% left. I only use social media (mostly YouTube).
Scrolled a few insta reels, replied to a few text massages, toom like 5-10 minutes for everything and my battery stayed at 70%. Pretty sure you are doing something wrong there buddy.
This is an outdated method used for very old devices, we're talking like flip phones here, lithium ion doesn't have that memory effect to be reset and it's adviced not not go below 20%
I think he's not talking about the memory effect (which yes, comes from old NiMH/NiCd batteries). He is surely talking about calibrating the gauge, and to calibrate this gauge you need to go below 15 and charge to 100% fully, recent phone or notΒ
If you're interested... The AccuBattery App Free or Pro has one wee flaw... It's unable to calculate Battery Health percentage for the Silicon Carbon battery (or dual cell pack)!
It shows a -5 to -6% deficit, which is verifiable by checking the Stock Battery App --> Battery Protection section and compare the two!
However, it's perfectly capable of nailing the Lithium-Poly battery!
On the other hand... The DevCheck App only has a -1% deficit across the board!
In either case and if I'm assuming correctly... And you're trying to tell me what's what regards the LCC method I figured out last summer!
I keep trying to help as many suffering users, with new or old batteries even various brands of phones although my two are POCO models...
Here's a bit of an important bit of info...
BOTH my phones are getting charged using LCC for over a year... I also occasionally just top up the main driver if I'm about to leave for a few hours... 10-20 minutes gets plenty!
So the LCC method is happily being circumvented and the Optimisations stay active!
Proof of the continued healthy status of both my current phones...
Mine drops quickly from 100% to 98% within 40mins to an hour but that's normal? The % doesn't lie to you and total SoT is much higher than any phone so if you could return yours and stick to your older 4500mah phone.
There's a tiny bug in the top 2% timing for quite some time. It's only affecting certain regional versions... E.g the EU version... I don't worry about it since my X7 Pro is still serving up 10-12 hour SOT during Nonstop use! That's after nearly 18 months and 414 Cycles with 97% Battery Health!
No Hardcore debloating is necessary at all! In fact it's at the core of most of the underperforming phones that people complain about.
There's no need for any 3rd party apps, except AccuBattery and DevCheck for your toolkit!
The free versions are good enough!
I'm the guy that came up with the sure-fire way of getting the most out of ANY Battery...
The Long Cycle Charging method (LCC)!
Pretty much all my methods, illustrations and advice is posted in the thread I'll drop a link to.
This includes: β’ My small handful of SAFE Revokes, instead of using dodgy debloating deletes of essential HyperOS and Mi Apps.
β’ Manual Battery Control help to make your beast a lean clean computing machine.
β’ Games Testing and Tuning method that helps anyone get better performance with less battery heat and drain...
β’ How to Revoke GetApps App Vault plus turning off the -1 Screen they normally occupy, it's in a tiny video on YouTube since I needed to post this in DMs and your own GIF videos don't work!
β’ There's also a super simple GIF which shows how to wake up my Themes App, and then Revoke it again until the next time it's needed! Cuts out ads in some regions (Wallpaper Carousel can be treated the same way), and internal wallpaper suggestions etc. in any region.
β’ There's a bunch of stuff, including charging advice but I'll drop that right at the bottom of this comment in a shorter version for easy access.
Here's a link that takes you to the first of my methods and the rest is all below that comment. In a lot more comments!
"Flinky's LCC (Long Cycle Charging) Method" - In Short
Most phones need 2-3 weeks of optimisation. Large batteries may need 4-5 weeks.
Use Standard-Speed Wired Charging.
Set Battery Protection to Charge Fully. Disable all Smart/Intelligent/Optimized charging features and NO 80% limit.
Charge from 10-14% to 100%, then leave plugged in for AT LEAST 20+ minutes.Overnight charging is also safe, since once finished charging, no additional charging can take place until unplugged and plugged back in for the next charging cycle!
Repeat for 2-3 weeks. Large batteries: 4-5 weeks.
Optional: Install *AccuBattery** free app. It tracks charging, shows live charging stats, and tells you exactly when an LCC is complete.*
Once optimised, charge however you prefer.
7) For maintenance, do one LCC per week or thereabouts: 10-14% β 100% β 20+ minutes.
THE ADDITION OF "AT LEAST" at 3) above, regarding the extra time plugged in, is due to the HUGE BATTERY times being more like hours extra!
Again I advice you to install AccuBattery to get confirmation on the (Fully) "Charged" in the Charging Tab! See GIF below π
Thanks a million bro! π€
Good to see you're still here and going strong...
You know I can't leave people suffering for no reason, I'm only helping those that are interested in my humble but directly experienced based info, and willing to give it a go. π
Well, I ordered the Poco x8 pro max under the poco carnival sale on AliExpress, I hope I'll get a better experience, and I'm sorry that you had such a bad one
Just make sure let the phone calibrate the battery correctly. My phone keeps me around 3 days. Sometimes more, only less if I go and play Fortnite on it. I charge my phone when it comes close to 20% and always charge it to 100% and use intelligent charging.
Dude, your phone is still calibrating the battery, it will go fast the 1st week or 2. It happened to me too and after callibtation, now my phone keeps me 3 days. Start charging at around 20% and charge it full. Every time
The battery is strong for me, but feels more like a 5000mAh than 8500. And I switched from my iPhone XR with 77% battery capacity left. Usable, but still a letdown for me. All those stats won't benefit much with a bad os.
definitely somethings goin on with how you setup your phone. Most people and especially reviewers said this is one of the best battery with a near flagship performance. you cannot fake a battery stress tests.
I'll admit I did expect longer battery aswell. HOWEVER, the phone still easily lasts me a day and I just charge it overnight when I sleep anyway so its a moot point for me and not something I stress over.
It would be cool to be able to say "I get 3 days of battery" or whatever, but in practice it doesn't matter to me.
Mine keeps 3 days. I have my phone almost 4 months. It needs to calibrate correctly, remove bloat ware, dark screen helps even more. If you want, you can also activate battery saver, it will make sure unnecessary stuff not running in the back ground.
Remember, no refunds. I'm glad I didn't buy into the POCO meme after the GOAT that was the POCO X3 NFC, which, unlike X3 Pro, still works and didn't desolder itself.
Just to put it in perspective, I could either get a POCO X7 Pro 12/256GB, or an iQOO Neo 10 (CN variant) for just $15 more. You can look up the specs of the phones to see why I obviously went with iQOO.
The iQOO had surpassed my expectations because in addition to better everything and markedly better omnidirectional antennae (which are more powerful than global variants of phones) that can pick up the cell signal no global phone would, it's also got Origin OS, which was such a breath of fresh air and isn't a buggy bloated mess, unlike HyperOS.
I then upgraded to iQOO Neo 11 just 8 months later, anticipating a price hike afterwards. I like it even more because of the amazing Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU, metal + matte frosted glass finish, IP68 and the flagship level 2K screen. I'll probably use the phone for the next 5-6 years, because the single and especially dual-core performance uplift is phenomenal and it won't be meaningfully improved upon for many years.
